For those looking for HRMs, there are some basic models from Polar for under RM200, but then it's very basic, U can only get realtime HR readouts, & maybe lower & upper limits... I dun think U can set zones & all... There are also models from non-Polars like Timex, Mio, even Casio. Study the specs of each HRM before making the purchase. Remember, HRMs has been in the market longer than GPS has.. & Polar still makes the best HRMs, in terms of technology, but others like Garmin is catching up very fast & Polar's decision to stick to it's own standards instead of going mainstream with ANT+ protocol can limit the choice of compatible accessories, especially if U also cycle..

Alternatively, like some mentioned here, smartphones have some very interesting apps that U can use for tracking, but not HR monitoring... Ur HRM must at least give ECG accurate readings for it to be useful.... & dun worry too much about hitting Ur max... I hit ..heck, even exceed my max all the time in training....

Hi tenno, any idea where to get Timex sportswatch in malaysia ? looking for Timex ironman run ... will appreciate you advice biggrin.gif
*
U mean Timex Run Trainer (TRT) ? I've never seen those in the local Timex dealers, I've seen Timex Global Trainer, but the dealers sell it at MSRP, meaning like RM1000++... some forumers sold it at RM799 or sumthing like that. I've also enquired from Davis, a seller at Garage Sale thread about TRT, he also have no plans to bring those in... Timex dealers in KL mostly sells the HRMs...

You can check your feet type via Nike/Adidas shop. Not necessarily have to buy from them after checking. tongue.gif You can opt for other brands as well, eg, Newton, Saucony, etc.

Nike shop ? U sure ? Which Nike shop provides this kinda service ?

It's good that they decide to do it on the 30/12 instead of right smack on the new year itself... this year's was held on the 1/1 & a couple of my friends missed the race, too much fireworks the night before... so this year I can bring my family to watch the new year's fireworks la...

Adidas confirm ala.
*
Tht's why I asked.. I know of no Nike shop that provides this kinda service... Nike in Malaysia is quite slow in the running scene, waayyy behind New Balance in terms of vest sponsorship...

U can check Ur feet type at selected Adidas shops, New Balance shops & also Brooks shop... I checked my feet type at Brooks Sunway, they have a new computerized feet type machine... U stand on a gel pad then the computer will calculate pressure areas & analyze Ur feet type.. complete with shoe model recommendations... cool...

Isn't it the person need to run on a treadmill, they will analyse our gait? Any shop provide this?
*
This is to determine gait. To determine feet type (flat/high arch/normal) U just need to stand... experienced docs can tell straightaway Ur feet type... for gait analysis, Running Lab can do it, Athlete's Circle also... for a fee..

running lab at tropicana city mall.
but i doubt their accuracy, it's hard to see what kind of pronation you have when you're running without like some slow-motion high speed camera.
*
U can actually.. of course slow mo caption is a lot more accurate, but U can tell Ur gait from the pattern of Ur shoe's outsole wear.. & also, if U've been having the same gait for years, I mean, U run & walk with the same style, it won't be too hard to tell...

but the way the uncle checked my gait didn't really give me much confidence, he just looked at my feet from sideway while i walked, didn't check the wear & tear of my shoes nor did he look from behind.

Look at Ur feet sideways ? I dun think thts the way to do it... how can U check the alignment of Ur feet (whether straight or not relative to Ur heels) from the side ?

Went to Brooks (The Curve). The guy there very helpful. Took out few shoes and explained to me what kind of shoes is for what, etc. Too bad no high tech machine to measure my feet, but his experience was good.

After going through at least 5 pairs, decided to choose this.

Brooks Glycerin 10

Cushioning was good. After putting it on, it makes my old shoe really feels so bad. The guy said my old shoe has already harden and cannot be used for running. It will hurt my feet and knee. No wonder every time I run blister and nail pain. I hope this new shoe will solve that problem.

Did U get the RM150 rebate ? I thot the offer ended on 30/9...

Hard to wash ? Just throw 'em into the washing machine la... U handwash 'em is it ?

I'm into my 3rd or 4th Injinji edi.. I've got wide feet & quite big toes that is giving me problems on long runs, so Injinji solved the probs & I never got any blister no more.. right now I've got a couple.. for short runs I'll use normal running socks from Nike & Brooks.. when I started running I used RM5/pair running socks from FOS.

Tenno, how about http://ccube-sports-hub.blogspot.com/2010/...-keep-feet.html

How do these socks fare against Injinji. Which one is suitable for heavily-sweating-feet on a long distance run?
*
In terms of comfort, it depends on Ur preference .. toe socks (Injinji) is of course different from normal socks (Drymax). I've never used Drymax, so I can't really comment on the sweat-wicking properties... but I sweat buckets too, & after long runs even my shoes become soaked like I've just come out of puddles of water.. So I chose Injinji for its comfort, not becoz it can keep my feet dry, which is, quite impossible... tongue.gif

I was looking around for running short pants (eg Nike, Adidas, Brooks). Fuyoh, branded really expensive. >RM80 range.

Is there big difference with those shorts or is it expensive cause branded?

I don't mind non branded alternatives, any suggestions?
*
The biggest problem with shorts (at least for me), is some of them, even from running-specific brands, tend to bunch in the sensitive zone, especially at the crotch. When they bunch they can interrupt Ur rhythm, or worse, cause blisters at "that" area. This is especially true for those knee-length types, split shorts dun have this problem, becoz they are after all, split shorts (the ones tht's extremely short, like those in the 70s).

Earlier when I started running I used football shorts from Nike, no inner. I still have one. Now I hv a couple from Nike & 1 Brooks. The Brooks' inner bunch all the time, I have to make a few "course corrections" when I run. One of the Nike was so comfortable, I can rely on its inner & I can run without underwear. Of course it's expensive, retails for RM159 I think... but I got mine during sale & the other one I bought at JPO.

Of course, during races I use tights, so no problem there... I have CW-X, Nike & Mizuno... for CW-X no underwear necessary..Nike & Mizuno hv to use underwear... biggrin.gif

nah i think the elevation isn't accurate, it tends to exaggerate the height, DPC's big route is pretty much flat, just have to compare both sides to the water level of the lake then you'll see.
I'm not sure what app U use to measure elevation... but if U use Garmin, in the map U can see tht wht appears to be flat is actually not flat at all. & Garmin provides total elevation, elevation gained, highest point plus lowest point.. so maybe the app he was using calculates total elevation gained during the whole running distance. My place in Saujana Putra is like totally flat, but at the end of the run I gained 24m total elevation... but maybe 300+ m is too much to be accurate lh...

How do you pace yourself in routes that you have never run before? I worry that if start too fast, then will poncet fast. But if go too slow, later hard to catch up if the road get tougher later.

Any advises for newbies? I hope I can finish in under 60minutes for the nike 10k. No confident but will give my best...

Start slow, finish fast.... always finish fast...

Just got my PBIM racekit... the Asics 25% voucher didn't mention the voucher can be used for shoes only... tht means can use on any Asics running products I suppose... too bad there's very little choice for Asics clothing...

All this bad experience after Nike makes U wonder.... SCKLM & PBIM always hv more participants than Nike...how come crowd problem at those races are almost unheard of?

I guess Nike just totally overestimated themselves...want bigger than avg crowd but dun wanna spend on crowd control measures... dunno lh..I've decided not to join upon learning of the different start & finish locations...

In the instructions, they say attire is official singlet. I wonder is it a must. If not, then I'll wear my own shirt.

Glad you managed to buy  the last pants smile.gif
If U read thru race instructions for all the races in Malaysia, 99% of the time they will say U have to wear the official vest. 99% of the time they dun dare enforce this. Only 1% (or rather, only one) of the race actually was smart enuff to print the race number on the race vest so that ppl will have to wear it no matter what. & tht one race is Nike 10K.
