How to run faster ?

If U run at 6:00/km everyday, everytime, every training session, it's little wonder why U can't run at 5:30/km or even 5:45/km right ? If U want to run at 5:30/km, U have to train at 5:30/km la, or faster even...

One keyword here :COMFORT ZONE

A lot of ppl are afraid to see what they are capable of. Very conservative in their pace estimate. My advice is : JUST DO IT. Get out of Ur comfort zone. Be prepared to hurt a bit. Back in 2010 when I 1st run HM, I ran 2:35 then 2:29.. & I thot that was the fastest I could go. But then, during my 3rd HM I ran 2:04 & I was surprised I could maintain that pace without much problem. I never thot I had it in me. So, IF U DUN TRY, U'LL NEVER KNOW WHAT U R CAPABLE OF.

Sports or even fitness is pretty much the same. To progress or improve, U need to get out of Ur comfort zone. At the gym, if U've been lifting 10kg curls for the past 6 months, pls do not think further why U have shown little or no progress in terms of muscle mass or strength, for example. U need to lift heavier. The same goes with running, cycling, swimming. U need to go faster la. No pain, no gain.

U want cheap one or expensive one ? Cheap ones U can find at Daiso or any of those RM5 Japanese store.

these are very great advice from the sifus themselves. observe the words and u will b on ur way to a 5.06 eventually smile.gif

I disagree with that in certain circumstances, eg: run a marathon on threadmill, facing the wall, no music, no screen. Only bloody figure slowly clocking up to 42.195km !!

if u can do that marathon must be feeling easy for u..
Mental is harder to train than physical
*
4hrs on a threadmill??!!!! rclxub.gif rclxub.gif sweat.gif later machine rosak i kena ganti.. tongue.gif but tats a great idea, at the same time can use energy gel in a controlled environment. juz hope that other user dun complain of me hogging the machine for too long.

10K - nothing..maybe just water before...if race on the track I'd take one gel just before start..
15K - 1 gel before start
HM - If I have Powerbar triple threat I'd take that an hour before, if I have water with me then I'd take 1 gel before start....

For training normally I dun take bfast, just bring along gel with me...

Solids can stay in Ur stomach for 4 hrs...
*
for FM, how often do u take gels?..once every 1 hrs?.. was planning to see how many to pack?.. tongue.gif

Hey, guys. Finally I done my DIY Huaraches!!! Yeah!!! Yeah!! Seriously it is not that easy to done it with just follow the youtube video (maybe I`m dump). Now, only left test running. Need test it`s soles can lasting or not. I`m a newbie runner, but usually  I will run at lease 5KM, so I will update here again after done the test.

By the way, this Huaraches is only 3mm thick. I think  it sure can feel the ground like barefoot.

But this week, I think can`t test it, because of my foot was injured since last sunday PJ Half Marathon, Maybe I will try it with walk walk first.  drool.gif

where to buy the gel ?
*
for PowerBar gel, u can get it from Guardian, Watson (most easily available pharmacy) and for the GU gel, u can get from GNC (sometime watson carries them too, but not always) smile.gif

price for GU gel is around 10% pricier than PowerBar gel. Which is better u may ask? i dunno. tongue.gif

Yesterday I ran 8.5km non stop at the gym, but time was reallllllyyy bad compared to my time at PJ Half Marathon. sad.gif Was it cause I set the speed at 7km/h? tongue.gif
*
if u consistently set it at 7, then maybe the run may not be that effective.

What i suggest is, u start at 7, then if u are comfortable with it, then u set it to 8, then ok with it then u set it to 9, and then maybe 10..the objective is to find what is ABOVE ur comfort level. and try to stick it to that.

and then decide whether u wanna run for how long. If long run and ur comfort level is 7, then set it for 8... if for a short run, then turn it into an interval, meaning, 2 minutes on 9, then 1 minute on 7 (repeat this cycle for as long u are running). smile.gif

any comment on this pattern of run sifus?..or anythg to add on , sifus and gurus?.. notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

Hey guys, normally I only managed to run 5KM non stop, and for these 2 days straight I've been running 6KM for each running session. This morning, I am starting to feel even more pain and sore muscles at the back of my lower legs and thigh in comparison to the post of first running session. Should I continue to run tonight or should I rest? For the record, usually I don't feel pain or have sore muscles after running 5KM.
*
maybe u shud take a break and then run again 2molo evening. today may not be such a gud idea as u are feeling niggering pain dy. Rest is as important as pushing urself to ur limit. Dun underestimate resting time. smile.gif

just to manage ur expectation here, 1 week wont boost ur speed by a lot. BUT it will still boost it nonetheless.. smile.gif all the sifus here had been running for months , if not years, to achieve their lightning speed that they have now. smile.gif

I'm new here.
I usually run 3-5km in the morning just to keep in shape.
Thinking of getting a heart rate monitor for run to ensure I stay in within my target heart rate . Is it worth it? I don't see many using it?
*
dun jump into gadget so fast..running is not about the gear tat u have. invest in a good shoes and try to clock in at least 5 km every 2 days..if this can be maintain consistently and u tink u wanna monitor ur heart rate, only then invest in a HRM. the HRm will always be in market, just that i tink the money could be better spent on other thing (e.g. shoes). smile.gif

Already got a pair of running shoes, now tangan gatal a bit.. hehe
But the main reason is as what i have wrote above, I'm pretty impatient to get back in shape & afraid that I may push too hard, as I have read somewhere that exercising beyond one target heart rate will do more harm than good. Is it true? This is the main reason I am considering a HRM. There are a couple of times which I think I pushed a little too hard & when I checked my heart rate manually, it was like a shocking 180+bpm! It almost breached my max HR. Although I can endure it physically but it that safe to do so?  hmm.gif
*
oic. Ok i understand ur concern. maybe sifu Tenno can advise u on the HRm. He can provide very informative feedback on hrm use. smile.gif

How to keep running for 10KM non-stop?....so far can do 2KM only..and than pancit habis.....been running at Titiwangsa on weekdays....so far Fail....any advice?
*
run slower...and try not to aim for 10km cos in the end u will find that its too ambitious and u'll give up completely on running. try 5km first. smile.gif
