on the cpu part. just set the scaling max frequency above 1.4ghz

at the faqs it says about overclocking until 1.7 1.8, the max frequency here is 1.6...

If you flash stock official firmware or leak firmware then you can use MobileOdin since the files comes in .tar.md5
Usually you flash custom roms using CWM since most custom roms comes in flashable zip files.
