hi all, would like to know from any owner of Y480, Y580 & N56:

1. Does your gear having any overheat problem? can you post temperature data showing temperatures at idle, and full load?
especially interested to know if Asus N56 runs cooler than lenovo or not.

2. I read from here and cari.com that some owners of Lenovo modify their gear by taking out the dvd drive and place the hdd there with a caddy, and put an ssd in the original hdd slot. reportedly this lowers temp by 10c. - would this violate the warranty?

3. can we do step 2, by just moving the hdd but not putting any ssd (leave the slot empty)?

4. how much would the caddy cost?

hmm i read from the china site

http://ideapad.it168.com/thread-2241468-4-1.html

that Lenovo has taken out the HDD activity indicating light, just because of some western designer's taste, getting quite a lot of complaint from the Chinese users...

can owners of 480 and 580 confirm this?

Our friends who bought Asus N56VZ recently seem to be not too happy with the quality of they gear:

"PS. ASUS IS SERIOUSLY F***ED UP THE N56 IN MALAYSIA, GO GET LENOVO Y480/580 IF YOU DON'T WANT TO RISK GETTING A FAULTY LAPTOP." - http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2386961

To be honest I almost ended up buying n56, but i bought Lenovo Y480 due to two reasons: budget, and mobility (N56 is a bit too big/heavy/bulky for me to lug it in and out everyday). for y480, it would almost be perfect if not for the glossy screen it has (compared to the matte display of n56).

Asus has a winner in N56VZ in terms of design - man, it IS beautiful. Compared with my new Lenovo, my colleague even thought I was still using my old HP 520 before I pointed it out to him - it is so ordinary looking. Unfortunately for Asus, they didn't backup a good design by QA. sad.gif

As for my Lenovo, it has a plain Jane outlook, but so far am very happy using it, will be even better if I move the hdd to dvd slot, and/or add a SSD... smile.gif

when i was considering between 14" and 15.6", i went to the shops and looked at the real things, I found that in terms of screen size, 15.6" (full hd) wins hands down, as I can have much bigger desktop to work.

but the down sides of 15.6" are the bulkiness and weight. i will be bring it out everyday, it will affect me on the long term basis, so I bought Y480 finally. i solve the screen size problem by connecting an external 22" monitor to it at home.

i think if you don't move a lot, 15.6" will be a good choice, but if you want mobility, 14" seems to be better, at least to me.

For me, the 1080p display (along with the real estate space for work) is a must have. Do I went for the 15.6". At first the Y580 looked really bulky. Then I found a nice backpack for it (Targus) and the weight 'disappeared'. Just get a good quality bag, it really helps.

hi, can let me know the targus model? price? might want it for my y480... smile.gif

Its Targus EcoSmart series. I got the 15.6" backpack. Padding is good and best of all it is capable of loading two laptops (not to do it, but good to know). There are sufficient pockets but not as elaborate as other brands such as Samsonite. Samsonite is a little boxy to my liking though. I've been using it a lot lately, the back cushion is good and provide very good support.

thanks, what about the price?

So the whole laptop will heat up very easily when doing hardcore game ornot?

Whats your average temperature?
*
bro, for what i know, those who run heavy graphics games will use cooling pad. i'm not a gamer, can't answer you in details. you either wait for some gamers to answer you , or read thru the threads - this issue has been covered in details.

hi guys, what's the difference buying Corsair Vengeance 4GB DDR3 as a single stick, or in pair?

If i buy a single stick now, and next time buy another stick, will they operate in dual-channel mode even though they don't come in pair?

If you see the specifications all the same, maybe its just a packaging. Say if you buy in a pair, its slightly cheaper than getting individual on its own. Some companies will go the distance to say that they had been hand picked to work together. Well its up to you to believe. In my experience, I have been mixing RAMs different size, different timings, different speed, etc. Safe to say that if you get back the same stick, no reason why it won't work.

thank you guys...
