cardio/weights. it all depends on your goals.
read the stickies to understand more.

glove is really really subjective. some say yes, some say no. i, for one don't use gloves.

when u feel slight pain, that means u r really putting the effort.
where it's serious pain, that means u r over doing it.

lol!! dan, what an answer..hahaha..

it doesn't matter if its basketball or taekwondo.. i have huge calves and huge thighs as well (got it from my dad)...

there were people who told me to stop working out on leg exercises as it will make my legs bigger...not true, combining it with cardio, i realized my thighs reduced in size and became leaner compared to when i first started..i'm only 172cm currently at 74kg...

jogging/running on the threadmill, doing leg exercises (resistance training) will help to reduce your overall body fat (you can't spot reduce) and firm and tone your legs as well

this is from my personal experience, so don't shoot me if i'm wrong =p

You're are woefully in the dark about fitness. And if you played any basketball at all you would have realised most of your jump power is from your calves.

Read the stickies before the regs troll the hell outta ya.

The guy above you has thee right points. Read and learn.

you need cardio and weight at the same time..
need muscles to boost up your metabolic rate. ask a consultant for a better idea..
