What do you normally do on your PC (Windows) ?

Try doing it on the Mac. In our office, everybody use 99 % macs. No bootcamp and rarely running VMWare for some windows app. We have a very old Pentium PC, hardly use/switch on.

I think I will skip the screen protector part.

Now only two things left to buy, USB 2 hub and wireless mouse. Apple touch mouse drain batteries quite quickily, this I dislike. Maybe looking for logitech bluetooth wireless mouse hmm.gif  .
*
Bluetooth is very helpful especially due to the limited USB ports on the macbook. But tracking wise, not as accurate as RF.

Get yourself a razer mamba 4g smile.gif working perfectly and rechargeable. when you gonna use it and it's out of battery u can just plug usb cable to the mouse and continue using + charging . smile.gif
*
Somehow Razer mice aren't affiliated with quality. I had at least 3 Razers died on me after 1 year of use. My Logitech mice have been going strong year after year after year.

Am using the Logitech M950 / Performance MX now and it's just plain awesome, both in performance and looks (best looking mouse in the market now). Comes with 3 years warranty as well. If you need more buttons / better tracking for gaming, go for G700 which is pretty much the same except with a much more subdued look.

haha was steelseries fans but after Ikari + Ikari Laser feel disappointed on it d. Both is faulty now ( same problem: left click always double clicks now ). The razer mamba is ok used for one year and still serve me very well, for the first thing i am quite a careful user haha. The quality i am not sure as i am not using any wireless logitech mice before but for razer mamba i can say it's as sensitive as a wired one  icon_rolleyes.gif

anyway the price is  shocking.gif  shocking.gif  shocking.gif for a mice
*
Haha. I guess if you are a careful and light user, Razer should do you well. Also, the Mamba is like one of the highest end Razer mouse so the quality should be better a lot. Didn't know the Steelseries had quality problems also.

I guess Logitech is still the best in quality and reliability, and Razer is the best for performance and function.

My colleague is using a logitech bluetooth mouse, I dunno what model, according to her very good. She is crazy about logitech, her USB 2 hub is also logitech. RMBP have two USB 3 port, that is not many. It had to be a blue tooth mouse to save USB port usage.

I am going shopping this weekend, perhaps at digital mall.
*
Nice. I'm also using a Logitech laptop cooler with built-in USB hub. Logitech has pretty good quality actually, except their speakers.

I did a clean install of OSX ML on my rMBP. Didn't notice any bugs at all.

But still the problem with the clean install is that you need to reinstall the iLife apps like Garage Band, iPhotos, iMovie

Did it make your rMBP cooler? As I understand the CPU fan flow of the rMBP is downwards, counter current leh  hmm.gif
*
All MacBooks have the aluminium unibody chassis to act as heatsinks. cMBP have only exhaust fans and MBA don't even have any vents - this is why when I was using my 2011 MBA 13", the temperature can shoot up to over 90 degrees celcius. laugh.gif rclxm9.gif icon_idea.gif

The rMBP is the first design that has dual-intake vent design at the sides. The exhaust is at the back (near the hinge) same like other cMBP.

Either way, laptop coolers are not necessary for MacBooks since the aluminium unibody dispels heat through the body as well. I'm using a cooler because it acts as a stand making typing easier, has a USB hub built-in, and also to prevent my rMBP from scratching the table's surface (note that the rMBP's bottom metal almost always touches the desk as the rubber legs are really thin (compared to cMBP).

I now play battlefield 3 with it at 1200*800, CPU power 30%, graphic at low... Max temp 75C for CPU, 65 for GPU  brows.gif  brows.gif

Wow. The rMBP should be able to run BF3 at higher settings than that right? Why not 1440x900 @ Auto Quality?

That setting seems to be doing pretty well here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrbNFSanv2E

Haha. I understand how you feel bro.

For me, the rMBP is basically the MBA 15", which is what I wanted when I was using an MBA 13". Still miss the sweet featherweight of the MBA 13", best ever portable. biggrin.gif

w00t.

Just got back from my Cameron Highlands 3-day trip.

Brought my rMBP along to do my work on the go while accompanying my wife shopping for fresh fruits and veggies.

Had it in my backpack all along and though I walked around quite a bit, the weight was not noticeable at all, unlike my previous cMBP which felt heavy about about 20 minutes or so.

I have to say, the lightweight of the rMBP is a God-send. innocent.gif

Yes, indeed very low res until it makes the Retina Display look seriously poor. However, I think the high res version can be obtainable from the author - may need to purchase it though. nod.gif

Anyway my rMBP is working perfect so far, cross fingers it stays that way for a long time!

I did use my 2011 MacBook Air 13" 1.7 GHz for light gaming last time. Installed Torchlight and it played smoothly, but the fan were so loud and annoying.

You can check out youtube for some people who have tried other games.

Apple support forums mentioned that the persistent-image problem is more to LG displays rather than Samsung's. Perhaps there was a batch of LG displays that were defective.

Do you really need to always shut-down the rMBP when you are not using it? Slow startup normally will affect Mac OS X and even Windows after installation of software which will leave some startup items (which cannot be disabled).

I almost always leave my rMBP in sleep mode since it doesn't drain the battery (due to the RAM image is stored in the SSD).

mobo replace twice in a year.
ram replace once.

konek.. do video can spoil one..
uh oh, but cs6 quite smooth to me in 2010 model with 4gb 1024mhz ram..

but if 3 photos edit big then it will lag.
*
Seriously, is it the way that you are using causing the problem? Having mobo replaced twice in a year and RAM replaced once is quite scary, while most people have their Macs last for years. hmm.gif

Yup. Same here. Brought my previous MBPs to different countries many times and still working strong.

QUOTE(CPURanger @ Aug 10 2012, 07:43 AM)
Most of the time, Macs is quite reliable. At office, PowerMac G5 still running and a few G4s no longer use, still in good condition. At times, maybe I would say bad luck, the iMac bought in 2010, have change motherboard twice. First gen 17" MBP 2006, LCD die last year, well perhaps old age. The usage is mostly development, demo & training. No torrenting, gaming or extreme usage.

The iMac 2008 I use, until today have no problems at all. So does many other macs in the office. At a customer place, the people there lamented that Macs are so reliable, no need to buy or upgrade new macs. They really wish their mac kaput, so that can get approval from their boss to get new mac.  biggrin.gif
*
Yeah. What you said is true as well. Could be luck as well, like the image-persistence problem affecting rMBP whereby we can say about 1% of people affected. sweat.gif

QUOTE(ClericKilla @ Aug 10 2012, 08:08 AM)
Well i did not drop my mac or anything,

All i used was photoshop, lightroom, fcpx, after effects,

keep doing rendering all the while for video ..

The first mobo replacement was becasue my trackpad issue , then i send to Switch and give it a check then they told me they replace the new mobo i was like okay.

The second mobo replacement / ram replacement comes in when i was doing final cut pro, everything starts to slow down but i need to do video in 1 week peiod due to schoool's requirement suddenly tak boleh power on the time it shuts down and crash..
then again send to switch and got it fix.
*
Could it be that the constant heavy load of your usage is the cause of the problem?

QUOTE(fas29 @ Aug 10 2012, 10:20 AM)
Hi guys,

I want to buy 8gb ram from garage sales. One question, can I bring my MBP to Machines and ask them to install it for me?
*
Better if you buy the RAM and install it yourself, free of charge. Or have the RAM installed by the shop you purchased it from (but make sure they are familiar with Macs).

QUOTE(kicko0o @ Aug 10 2012, 10:44 AM)
Hmm got few questions, if use MBP gaming (D3, etc) for a long period will it easily get spoil in the future? caused too hot even the fan spin at full speed..

And does the Apple warranty can claim on all Malaysia authorize reseller (Mac City, Machine, etc), which is not base on where you purchased it from?
*
Everything has wear and tear, bro. The more you use for heavy load apps / games, the faster it will die (theoretically). If you really love to play games all the time, seriously it's better to get a desktop or a proper gaming notebook with better cooling system (seriously, even the rMBP's cooling system is not really 'that' good). Heck, even most of the gaming notebook in the market have high RMA rate like Asus G-series and also Dell Alienware series.

Like for me, I only use my rMBP to play games quite seldom and mostly only when I'm on the move. rclxm9.gif
Otherwise, I have my desktop PC at home for all my gaming needs. brows.gif

Actually, I'm quite impressed with the Intel HD 4000's performance. When I set the GPU to Integrated on my rMBP, I'm surprised that it rarely lags and best part is it saves a lot of battery compared to using the Discrete one. So if Apple did release the Retina MBP 13, the integrated GPU alone would suffice, IMHO.

As what BRY7 said, to add further - the Retina MBP 15 is wide enough to house more battery packs, but the MBP 13's width is much smaller unless the battery life is cut down to 5 hours or they need to maintain the current MBP 13's thickness and can't make it as thin as the Retina MBP 15.

Somehow, I think Apple will not release the Retina MBP 13 for another 1 year at least. True what you said that the MBA 13 already has a higher reso screen and it is one of the key selling point of the MBA 13; and Apple does not want to kill this part of their product line.

And here's the best part why Apple will NOT release a Retina MBP 13
--- Because the Retina MBP 15 is actually the MBA 15 and we already have the MBA 13 in the market - so there you go! brows.gif

Must be something blocking your wireless receiver. Always put the wireless receiver on the right side of your MBA or rMBP. If you are using cMBP, then you need to use a USB extension as the entire aluminium metal chassis will interfere with the wireless signals. sleep.gif

I normally turn up my resolution to 1920x1200 if I'm using such non-retina apps. It helps to reduce the ugliness of the pixels. rclxms.gif
