yep i know but in internet most people say get better performance when played using bootcamp windows.
it's an MBA afterall, so any increase of performance even slightly is good.

Wow, do let us know how Dota 2 runs on your MBA 13" 2011, darkangel. I'd be really interested to know if the integrated graphics can take the Dota 2 power. biggrin.gif

I tried on my rMBP and it struggles a bit at maximum detail level at 2880 x 1440 resolution. Worked smoothly after tuning down the resolution though. happy.gif

so if i buy a MBA online now, will it come with Lion OS or ML? And i have decided to buy the MBA 13", is it advisable to upgrade the RAM to 8gb? my usage is only surf net, stream movie, music, and some gaming (e.g. Diablo 3), not a heavy gamer tho..
*
I used to have the MBA 13" 2011. And 4GB RAM was always sufficient for me. The only reason I see that you need the 8GB RAM upgrade is that if you use Parallels / VMware Fusion.

I wonder how much it cost to replace rmbp's unibody...
*
Quite worried myself about scratching / denting it.

Perhaps will get those hard case to cover the exterior like Speck See-Thru. Only thing is when will they be out. sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif

I wonder why my rmbp always switch to the nvidia gpu even for browsing?
*
Seldom see my nvidia gpu turn on for browsing in my rMBP, but normally only when I turn on apps like Aperture, etc. Perhaps the site you visit use 3D-acceleration.

Meaning safari 6 will consume more batt juice?
*
Don't have to worry to much when it comes to battery juice. The rMBP's battery is crazy huge. rclxm9.gif

I wanna ask... Which 1 should i get? for MBA 13"

Ajul selling MBA 2011 13" with i7 & 256GB SSD & 4GB RAM & ACPP
Brand New MBA 13" with i5 & 128GB SSD & 8GB RAM

Price is 100 Ringgit Diffrence,
*
First, if you are not worried that the MBA 2011 13" only comes with a laptop and charger only, then it should be the better deal. Check for how many battery cycles to ensure that the battery isn't worn out.

It's quite easily available at many shops selling electrical wiring. Normally I get mine from All-IT since I can grab my tech-related stuff at the same time. rclxm9.gif

Nice deal you got there by the way! Just remember to check for image-retention problem for rMBP. rclxms.gif

First things first. Check with your seller if he allows you to change your rMBP with a new unit if there is image-retention problem. Just a food for thought. brows.gif

they will ask you to send in for warranty

Yup. Furthermore, most (if not, all) of the sets are sealed so the buyer can't really test the item first prior to handing over the cash to the seller.

I'm having a hard time to decide which Macbook to buy. Basically I have the budget, but I want my purchase to worth the money spent. I'm buying this week, help!

  1. I've never owned any kind of Mac before, and I'm ready to make the jump now!
  2. I have a windows gaming rig at home for heavy usage.. well its not really gd actually, just AMD Phenom II system + HD7770 GC..figured the next upgrade would mean i need to change the whole parts to intel system
  3. Also have a HP netbook for downloading/torrenting purpose.. but its an awful machine to be used for working purpose.. so lagging.. ugh..
  4. Also have iPad2, new iPad & iPhone4S
  5. I plan to use my new macbook laptop for the following purpose:

    • iOS development
    • Bootcamp into Windows 7 so that I can use Visual Studio environment.. Being able to Parallel/VMWare is a bonus..
    • Light video editing and upload to youtube
    • As my secondary gaming PC when I go back to my hometown on holidays (Diablo 3 + Starcraft 2 + Football Manager + CIV + Strategy Games.)
    • Bring it out and about when I go out to meetings & trainings
    • Web surfing + Emailing + Social networking + watching movies etc

I like the slim factor of Macbook 13" Air .. The fact that its so light is very tempting but I already have my iPad for that purpose isnt it? Is the integrated graphic card does a decent enough job for my purposes?

Macbook Pro 13" is also an option but I feel that its extra processing power is not big enough to justify its extra weight and size

Macbook Pro Retina Display base model sounds perfect for me.. but its kinda expensive and heavier than Macbook Air.. my main concern is that i'm worried if it not worth my money..

Decisions.. decisions..
*
Since you already have a gaming PC, and prefer lightweight; go for the MBA 13".

Before I upgraded to a retina MBP, my MBA 13" was my main Mac and it's very powerful in its own right.

But now I can even bring along my demanding PC games and play them on my retina MBP when I'm on the move. biggrin.gif

hi all, i'm going to join the mac family soon (switch to the smarter side). Ha Ha Ha~

I have placed an order for the base model rMBP actually.

From my observation, a lot of people that uses the 2.6 GHz model rMBP did not complain about the lag in web browsing and so on.

So I think I need some input from the sifu here, should I just cancel my order and upgrade the rMBP? anyone using the base model but does not experienced any laggy in normal use? thanks.
*
I'm using a 2.3 GHz model and don't encounter any lag during browsing on OSX Mountain Lion. Note that the 2.3 GHz will auto-clock higher and up to 3.3 GHz when being used depending on the need of the application.

*
For such usage, 8GB RAM is more than enough for your current usage. The only reasons I see if you need 16GB now is if you want to run Parallels / VMware, or if you are a heavy user of photo / video editing.

Perhaps you should use those flat-head type small screwdrivers instead. They should be able to fit but becareful not to damage the screw themselves with it. hmm.gif

QUOTE(edwardgsk @ Aug 3 2012, 12:30 AM)
8GB is good enough for the next 3-5 years. After that, you will see most laptops comes with 16Gb already. nod.gif
*
I totally agree. And by 3-5 years, I'm sure you would be on the next-gen retina MBP already. brows.gif

I would like to know type of screwdriver too. I failed to unscrew it when I just got my MBPRD because the bolts are too tiny compared to previous generation mbp. I want to see how great Apple engineers are. The mainboard + flash drive + battery architecture is so great. Although I'm a Thinkpad fans, I have to admit that Apple is the only computer manufacturer producing high quality computer.

rMBP are using different type of screws - http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/12/06...hard_drive.html

I am thinking of buying the 11" MBA, wanna know where is the best way to get it.

(1) Edu Store : Discount RM 150
(2) Courts Mammoth : Freebies + interest-free installment (not sure it comes with processing fees)
(3) SenQ : Interest-free installment + RM 105 processing charge

At the moment it seems like Courts Mammoth is a better choice. Any other recommendations?

Another question: Are 3rd party accessories such as Thunderbolt to VGA/DVI/Cat-6 connectors available, so that I do not need to spend as much on Apple branded products? How much cheaper are they?
*
Question is, does Courts Mammoth freebies worth at least RM 150, and this is considering that they do not charge processing fees. Still think you should go direct for Edu Store unless you prefer to grab the MBA on the spot after payment.

3rd party accessories available for VGA/DVI, not sure about Cat-6. But I always use original adapters for Apple since their MacBook logic boards are really sensitive and might just short-circuit if the 3rd party accessory is faulty or has a defect.

It's a very durable glass screen. No need for screen protector, IMHO. If you compare the MacBook Air and the Retina MBP, the Air's screen feels really fragile.

wow.. i can't think of why someone would open so many windows.
either run a program to perform multiple concurrent simulation test for a system or for running game bots like for diablo 3 to farm haha

btw, since i switched to mac, i can't find much usage of it. typically just surf net or watch movie... what else do u all do with your macs?

i dont think everyone do programming or photo/video editing right..
*
Just think of your Mac as your PC, just without the gaming component (of course there are exceptions like Diablo 3, etc.).

Actually, come to think of it - what do you normally do on your PC anyways? laugh.gif

For me, surfing the web, watching movies, listening to music, photo editing with Aperture, video editing with Final Cut Pro, website design apps, and gaming (Dota 2, Crysis 2, Max Payne 3, Starcraft 2, Diablo 3, via windows Bootcamp)
