Anyone subscribed to Hosting Works? I'm not sure with their linux package and the one from ipserverone offered.... Which one is better?

I need some suggestions on which package to choose.

Usually, how do you choose a web hosting package? The size? The bandwidth speed?, how fast at least?

For now, which hosting companies do you think is reliable?

I will be running some music site, so will upload some musics/vids. Go for 1000MB space? What is the 'standard' package people go for today? Like today most of us are using 80GB disk, no longer using 20GB disk.

Hmm, i'm wondering how to configure the settings inside, never try this before.

And, some of the package includes, i don't really understand what it is.

Please advise.

Describe your plan.

How many GB of vids/music do you want to store? What are their formats? Do you want them to be streamed or direct download? Do you plan to control those downloads? What are your audiences, malaysians mostly or worldwide? etc.

so with the Free domain, willl they be claiming it's theirs if u plan to change host after the expired of ur subscription with them?

Free domain will mostly owned by the hosting company itself. It is their choice to free up the domain. But as the domain transfer rules, it is not allowed to transfer if the domain has expired.

The different in pricing of hosting package is depend on the cost that the company incurred and most important their target client.

Comparing :

RM 300 for 100MB package and RM 100 for 1 GB

Let say, the monthly cost of a server is around RM 500 (rented or dedicated server). Then add up you cost for Level 3 Admin in maintaining the server etc, that would be around RM 5000 monthly (split the cost among 10 servers, so RM 500 per month).

So average for a good hosting cost is around RM 1000 per server.
With redundant backup, backup DNS, redundant power supply, remote reboot, KVM/IP etc.

So, it would cost RM 12000 per year to support the server alone.

Let say you charge customer RM 100 per year. So you need to put MINIMUM of 1200 users inside the server.

Disk Allocation : 1200 users x 1 GB = 1200 GB (if you are not overselling)
Backup : 1200GB
Secondary Backup : 1200 GB

But if you have mix package (100 MB, 200MB), maybe you will round up to 400 - 500 users per servers.

However, for expensive hosting have less tense server enviroment.
They only have to put 200 - 300 users in one server. Some are 50 users.

So it is easier to manage the backup, security checking etc

Of course, for budget hosting, personal website is suitable. But for business enviroment ? Can they manage to put their data with other 500 users ?

Expensive Hosting : Less headache (less fraud, less kids signups), more profit, and no mp3 download etc.

Budget Hosting : got some headache, teeneger customer which eager to explore the server, more user needed to breakeven.

well, if you go for exabytes.com.my, I would say, you did a good decision! Its reliable and also, they provide very good customer service and fast response from their support team as well... So far there is no any problem with my website hosted at Exabytes.

i mean alwiz we can see in webhost company, shared hosting, got 1 domain hosting, 2 domain hosting..what is it actually? what different between both?

U need to find domain registrar and there are too many available on the Internet.

Domain price may vary from other Registrar but standard price should be less than RM 40 for common TLD such as .com/net/org

Meanwhile .com.my/net.my/org.my is around RM 100 but u need company registration number to make an application.

Yes , all contracts are per year basis.

But i noticed some webhosting providers will give u free domain when you sign up their webhosting for a year package. You can make survey by yourself. There are too many providers available in Malaysia.
