I know nothing about photography (only read some basics) if I use the rx100 in auto mode will it be better than a camera phone eg galaxy s7? how difficult is it to learn to take good photos? i tried with a dslr for about 1 hour come out all bad pictures. |

QUOTE(=..= @ Feb 8 2017, 11:30 PM) hi guys, No matter what camera you buy, it's all about your skill. Just get which ever is comfortable for you. Personally, RX100 is a great compact camera. I would advise to shoot in raw format instead of jpeg. You get more editing flexibility when you screw up some of your photos.I know nothing about photography (only read some basics) if I use the rx100 in auto mode will it be better than a camera phone eg galaxy s7? how difficult is it to learn to take good photos? i tried with a dslr for about 1 hour come out all bad pictures. I've used program mode when i'm lazy to use manual. Turns out the result is good. However, when under certain different light conditions, manual mode is a better choice. |

Camera processors are pretty powerful these days. S7 is more convenient to carry and quick snap. RX100 is more of a proper camera that you can carry everywhere for all situations. Not apple to apple comparison since they're just shot outside my balcony and from different year and time. MkIV already have minimum shutter speed for autoiso and exp compensation is pretty quick and painless.I've used program mode when i'm lazy to use manual. Turns out the result is good. I like taking candid shots, so manual mode with faster shutter speed is better in my opinion. (Imagine trying to shoot kids, nightmare). Maybe shutter priority is good option for beginner. Manual mode is pretty useful too especially those who love taking long exposure. I hope we leave more options rather than discarding it completely. There's really no use for manual mode. After all, It depends what you are shooting. If just normal stand and still/scenery photo, program mode is enough. Great camera design for beginner and dlsr users. QUOTE(=..= @ Feb 8 2017, 11:30 PM) hi guys, In tern of hardware, RX100 will easily beat S7.I know nothing about photography (only read some basics) if I use the rx100 in auto mode will it be better than a camera phone eg galaxy s7? how difficult is it to learn to take good photos? i tried with a dslr for about 1 hour come out all bad pictures. However if you not going the learn about photography, dont expect something better than S7, you will get similar result on both. DSLR/High End compact offer is flexibility on situation, eg fireworks needs high iso, 1sec shutter, big aperture etc... Depends on situation, you learn from experience and learning. |

Same here... 99.99% candid shot with my 8 and 6 year old. After all, It depends what you are shooting. If just normal stand and still/scenery photo, program mode is enough. Great camera design for beginner and dlsr users. Maybe our brains wired differently but I think.... Scenery/landscape are a bit more complicated since we have the time to think therefore the photo will show if there's thought put into it...anyway its awful lot of work for a nice landscape of which I have no time or patience For kids or street photography... I'd would use whatever attention I have to look for specific moments.. framing etc... stick it on aperture priority and just leave the camera to do its thing. Outdoors during daytime is a no brainer.... f2.8 for small sensor like RX100 and f4 for APS-C (poorfag here so no FF) are more or less the lens best performance, use exp compensation to watch for highlights. Either auto ISO or ISO400 for sunny days and ISO800 for gloomy days. For cameras with configurable minimum SS for AutoISO.. I use 1/125. Shutter speed more than fast enough either ways. Indoors wide open, ISO1600 or if the camera can set minimum SS (damn I love my fuji's 3x autoISO), use 1/60 sec. Most of the time, should be enough kids. Besides, some movements ok wut... more organic Night time more challenging... not willing to break ISO1600 so as its as above. This post has been edited by sniper on the roof: Feb 10 2017, 01:38 PM |

Great tips from you regarding the shutter speed set up. i just normally put around 125 to 200 and leave to ISO 800 for indoor. The tiny flash is useful for wall/ceiling light bounce. Outdoor sunny day, just put Program mode.Maybe our brains wired differently but I think.... To be honest, if RX100 can even achieve that crop sensor Depth of field look, i can even leave my full frame camera behind. (Keep on dreaming) Here is a cave shot recently last year. Shoot with RX100 mark 4 on tripod with light room editing adjustment. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « This post has been edited by Jimsee: Feb 10 2017, 02:18 PM |
