i think the time that XZ1 launch back then and the time that Sony launch its rx100 have something to do also. Back at the XZ1 it was unique for its really fast lens. But when RX100 launch now the market already too crowded with pocketable size premium P&S.

So if XZ1 will launch today it wont get the same rating as it get back then.

When XZ-1 was first launched, the competing models were Canon S95/G11, Panny LX5 and that samseng whatever ma. Fast forward to now... only new addition to the market is Fuji only wat.

It is like the market is bored of this type of product i guess. The market has too many now so no more special feelings. I think back when s90 came out it really did wow the whole market.

Yeah I know what you mean ... I had a S90 and during that time, want good image quality have to get big big camera and small camera all rubbish. Now got m43, NEX etc and more choices. Though all also not here not there.

while the over saturated colors might not be a good thing, but it sure helps the watercolor effect tremendously. also most consumers will turn their head towards punchy colors than natural but bland colors. must admit sony is pretty darn smart to know what most consumers want. laugh.gif

If you are refering to pocketable size premium P&S then there is only the S100 and RX100
plus maybe the Fuji XF1 which will be launched on the 5th Sept. 2 or 3 is hardly a crowd tongue.gif

Know what the image really speak out I just bought it week ago and my image sample is over here the one bird around the tree Sample RX100 Picture using clear image zoom but yet retain very much useable
picture and detail. Just outing recently where when I want to use as cybershot just turn to iAuto kao tim no need think much, when there is nice scene want to
do future edit jst turn back Aperture mode, no hassle. I know can done that in many camera but not in the compact segment which gave me full manual control
and this is what as describe rocket in ur pocket smile.gif)

I played with RX100 in Paradigm Mall just now, selling price of 2399 inclusive of 8gb card + leather pouch.

The image captured and view from LCD looks very capable..
Just that I wish the menu system is more accessible, looks a bit complicated to me..

Just that I felt the price is too a bit step..

Why LX3 not pocketable? Depends on the pants niah. Different ppl wear diff type of pants.

i can't imagine anyone actually put a camera inside their pocket while guys usually have a phone at one side and wallet (i mean FAT wallet with numerous cards) at the other side, alongside with car keys and house keys...

but yes RX100 can fit into smallest sling bag. biggrin.gif

on a side note though - i've searched all over the web and especially DPreview forum, seems that RX100 has quite a bit of problems and so far i just list down a few that catches my eyes:

1. color cast at corners
2. white balance not consistent throughout the focal lengths (based on review's lab test)
3. color is rich but "dull" at the same time (personal opinion), with unnatural color cast.
4. strange "red dot" flare when pointing directly to sunlight.

and you can see first 3 points of the above are related to colors. why? i've already developed phobia with the Nokia Pureview 808 - while it takes excellent details and rival some DSLRs in good lighting and beats most or at least matches the low light performance of many PnS camera, the inconsistent and unpredictable color cast/reproduction on top of the failed white balance in yellowish lighting literally put me off. since then when i look for a camera, the very first thing i look for is how the colors and white balance performed, and it'll significantly affect my purchase decision. though i still envy the extra 10MP details captured by the RX100.biggrin.gif
