the oem product key usually on the sticker at the back... unless you buying free-dos laptop

those 2 software will extract the master key used by the factory
as for your case, try to reformat on old laptop....
btw, which driver are you trying to install anyway?

you can choose either factory default, current system or existing backup image

so tempted to upgrade now.... probably wait until winter break since it's easier to sort out stuff

need to do upgrade first to activate the upgrade license key... then later can do clean install so that your system is clean since the key is changed from upgrade key to retail key

backup if wanna do clean install... 'usually' when upgrade no stuff lost

yeah.... and when upgrade, old windows folder will still exists (and renamed to windows.old)
but i would suggest that before you upgrade/clean install, better prepare some stuff first like drivers etc.. since win8 is just released, some stuff wouldn't work perfectly

i think someone posted working drivers download link somewhere in the thread.... do check few pages back + read on possible issues discussed (if exist )

unless you also format your external HDD, why would it be gone

sometimes if user make partitions in their system, they usually format the system partition and leave other partition... thus stuff in the partition still exist

yeah... just format that ssd if you wanna do clean install.... it won't disturb your HDD

if clean install need to be burned into dvd or make into bootable usb... but if upgrade i think you can just run from your windows
