They should set an entry exam like ISAT too.
Any recommendation for OnG text? smile.gif thinking of getting one.

Williams obstetrics & Novacs gynecology. - Internationally recognized references.

Our HOD recommend the above text books for POST GRADUATE students... For undergraduate, our HOD only wants us to read the following :

- Dutta's Obstetrics and Gynecology
- Shaws gynecology
- Mudaliar and Mennons obstetrics.

For our fast revision:

- Multani obstetrics & Gynecology notes.

Google these if you are curious about them....

(i personally dont like obstetrics and gynecology) biggrin.gif

You got C's for A-levels? Is that equivalent to C of STPM eg; 2.00 GPA?
If so, you will be told by actual doctors here not to do MBBS/MD.

Working 4 years in the government which is compulsory in Malaysia.
Here's the part I want to know.
Can you do your POSTGRADUATE DEGREE
(Master, MRCP, FRCS, etc) in UK or Australia with an IMU local degree and

If Yes
2nd question:
After getting your postgraduate degree from the respective country, is it likely that you get to WORK in that country?
*
For 1st question - yes, MRCP can be done by an MBBS/MD holder, we have exam centers in KL and Singapore. Recognition is another matter to be considered. Masters? In what? Non-professional/clinical masters can be done in the UK, they have 1 year taught course Masters program there (eg: Masters in immunology/ Masters in health administration, etc)

For 2nd question - Even if you got MRCP, that wont guarentee you can work in UK. Heh

Injecting syntometrin into the newborn....????? Baby dies, KPJ sued~

Couple, who lost son, sue hospital for negligence

By S. Ista Kyra

IPOH: A couple, who lost their first-born son 24 hours after being delivered, filed a negligence suit against a private hospital here today.

In their writ of summons, civil servant Mohd Helmi Mohd Isa, 30, and his wife, lecturer Norehan Abdul Hassan, 30, claimed that the death of their son in April last year, occurred after a hospital personnel wrongly injected their child with a medication meant for the mother.

The couple, who have been married for three years, did not specify their claim for  general and exemplary damages.

"We are seeking justice as well as a fair compensation from the hospital. We will never be able to get back our son but hopefully other patients will not be subjected to similar negligence at the hospital in future," said Mohd Helmi when met outside the High Court.

Mohd Helmi said his son, Muhammad Mohd Helmi, weighed 2.6kg at time of birth at 5.19pm on April 13 last year.

"We were informed hours after the delivery that our son was in critical condition due to wrong injection administered on him by a hospital staff," he said.

Pelanggan terkejut caj cabut gigi RM300 sebatang

Posted on January 11, 2013, Friday

Cyber Setan, are you still in your hole in Sabah? Are you in a position to do something? This was such a lousy start to my day.

That is indeed a hydrocephalus and one who diagnosed it a body dysmorphic disorder is an idiot.

I cant do squat about this and so does the consultants, they will just push this case to the Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat instead.

Relying on Sabah Govt. Hospitals for cases such as this? We are already swamped with illegal immigrants/foreigners taxing our state's healthcare facilities no thanks to project Mahathir the f***ing Traitor.

VP shunt could have been done... then again... apparently the pediatricians/neurosurgeons (if any) in the Govt Hospital doesn't seem to be bothered with this boy's case.

KUALA LUMPUR: Health Ministry deputy director-general (medical) Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has been appointed director-general, effective March 1.

His appointment to replace Datuk Seri Dr Hasan Abdul Rahman was announced Thursday by Chief Secretary to the Government Datuk Seri Dr Ali Hamsa.

In a statement, Dr Ali said Dr Noor Hisham's appointment, which was approved by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah, was based on his experience and knowledge in the medical field.

Having held the post of deputy director-general since Feb 1, 2008, he was also the Putrajaya Hospital surgical department head and consultant breast and endocrine surgeon in 2007, Putrajaya Hospital general surgery medical officer in 2004 and general surgeon in 1994.

Dr Noor Hisham, 50, who has a masters in surgery and medical doctorate degree from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, joined the civil service as a medical officer in August 1988.

"I believe his experience, knowledge, expertise and credibility can ensure the country's health agenda and goals are executed, and the people get the best medical service," said Dr Ali.

The post felt vacant following the demotion of Dr Hasan Rahman last year.

Dr Hasan was demoted by one grade following his khalwat case in November. - Bernama

And btw, is there any tendon hammer other than the one with a disc on top of a plastic stick (looks cheap and expensive rm4x) ? And where can I buy it?
*
which Indian authored book did you have had a terrible experience with?

For English authored books - the generally used ones are:

-Hutchinson clinical methods
-Macleod's Clinical Examination

However... these books doesn't really go deep into each clinical subject's examination methods.

I like that type of tendon hammer. The short metal one doesn't give enough 'kick' for eliciting tendon reflexes.

Chaurahsia (good book but you'll need to have your own cadaver to make full use of it), inderber singh, microbiology books and so on.. IMHO they are more to memorizing facts and not telling you things behind that/ maybe I just prefer how the 'mericans study.
*
Indeed they are. Those books I believe are meant to be less complicated designed for undergraduates. My professors told me these books are enough. If I wanted to study more and indepth, they suggested me to read postgraduate books instead, however they don't recommend me doing so during my undergraduate studies as I have other subjects to read.

You could order it from ebay or Amazon.com - get a good tendon hammer that lasts...

Here is an example: http://www.amazon.com/MDF-Queen-Square-Ham...s=tendon+hammer

It is costly... but if it is a good hammer... why not? Read the customers review.

Greetings people,

Any recommendations on patellar hammer for a fresh medical student? Wish to get something affordable that I could use in the long run, which I don't have to worry about upgrading or getting a replacement too soon. Ideal budget would be RM45 or below.

Is 3M Littmann Classic II Stetoscope for RM190 a good bargain?

Thanks in advance. smile.gif
