With the shortage of ho jobs, and waiting list, you will have to where ever you are posted.....popular places are rapidly filled, so you choices like hkl are probably not possible....

actually i applied for seremban, kuala pilah and temerloh but got offered to HKL. Anyway i think its a nice place to learn although overcrowded with HO.

that suggests even places like kp, temerloh are full....!!

otherwise, like in the past, if you apply to these type of places, you will almost guaranteed to get it....

hkl can take a lot of hos because of the very large number of specialists....

Anyone here is doing or have friends doing HO in Kuala Pilah? Would it be recommended to do your training there?

update from my side:

International students might be offered an interview spot around oct-nov depending on spot allocations. This is for RHH. No news for north or rural tassie too for internationals.

And I think Queensland is pretty much full, left with rural areas. They've actually sent us an email asking us to change our preferences after the first round offers were rolled out.

And the wait continues smile.gif

First round out in mid July here in tassie, and I think just recently so for interstate (cat 1, maybe cat 2). Got a few local friends receiving offers from SA, and even VIC. Still slowly rolling out I guess.

How many from UQ a year do you reckon? I just chatted with a UQ student who went for the sg interview in melb last week and he just told me how terrible and disorganized the med school is there, not sure how true it is. Similarly a soon-to-be grad from melb uni (melb model postgrad med) told me that he is just starting clinicals in his final year. Was a bit baffled by the news.

uq takes in about 500 students every year, the also have an 'american' programme, geared to the us system and usmle exams....like all big med schools, you can be posted in different hospitals, and never meet your year mate...!

graduate entry 4 year programmes have a 2 year clinical component....should be the same for melbourne as well....but the 3rd year could possibly be a hybrid year, like utas' 3rd year....

any offer yet?....when will tasmania give out offers for cat 2?

So CAT 2 would be us international utas grads. It depends. You would expect burnie rolling out offers earlier and launnie next. But no news from both hospitals either. Hobart has already told us that the earliest we will get an interview would be about the october period.

Didn't know UQ is so complicated, and massive in terms of their graduate output.

Singapore interview was sort of interesting. Nothing like the interviews here where they ask you those interview type questions, ie why us, why you, etc etc. It's basically shooting you with clinical questions from the moment you enter till you can't answer no more.

spore used to take all comers, as they had a shortfall of 200+ doctors a year.....duke/nus med school has started graduating, and there is a lot more surplus production in both uk and oz lately (amid shortages of jobs) who are looking towards spore, hence the number of applicants to spore has increased as their needs drop....so yes, last time it was a sweet deal recruitment drive, and now it's choosing the best from a bigger pool.....(although they still have a very attractive package for singaporeans to return to work)

it all depends on who need who more....rural areas in oz still lack doctors and will give a sweet deal....whereas everybody wants to go to teaching hospitals in sydney and melbourne....

This will be the first private med school in the UK.... It has been proposed some time ago, with some initial objection to the idea of full fees private medical education....

All students will pay the rather high fees of 35k GBP....which is more than 3 times other students pay at public funded unis....which then begs the question, will any British student want to do this....their current student profile shows half their students are internationals....so it is likely to be higher in the med school with such high fees....

only those who cannot get a public funded education will want to go to there, and it is in recognition of this reality, that they start the programme in Jan, with selection after all UK med schools have started....

they have completely ignored the ukcat/bmed testings....

1st criteria is academic results (which based on their timing, potential students will have), with the minimum a low 3a....which then feeds into further assessments....

this is the complete opposite of all the other med schools, where all assessments and offers are completed before the a level results are out...

every year, there will be reports of how students with straight a+ did not secure an offer....this will be an option for them....assuming they have very rich parents....

they expect 60% of students to be internationals...i suspect it's going to be more than that....but since they are not public funded, there is no restriction....they can take in 100% internationals if they want...

also note that they are charging clinical phase fees even for their pre-clinical years....and the 1/2 year is actually the final year....to sync with f1 timetable....wonder if that is charged as 1/2 of full year as well!
