QUOTE(jungyu @ Aug 16 2012, 12:34 PM) guys, i need advices, it'd be better if got any case alike. i intend to apply for PR. i am work permit holder, office type, have a malaysia local uni degree, with monthly salary over $3k. my company does not intend to upgrade my pass as the chance of success ould be very slim. so i wonder if i can apply for pr with work pass? QUOTE(Mackiddo @ Aug 16 2012, 12:40 PM) work permit ? i think the chances are very slim. Almost down to 0%. I've never heard of any case where WP holder successfully get a PR. I stand to be corrected. Normally WP is for unskilled worker. like mackiddo said, WP is the lowest pass in SG - normally used for unskilled workers. Many/most WP holders not even allowed to get pregnant or marry PR/Singaporeans or they get deported and their permit cancelled - shows you how much SG wants you here long term.

QUOTE(yhoong12 @ Aug 17 2012, 09:57 PM) heard my friend say that EP holder can go through Woodland checkpoint via Singaporean passport, noneed to go for long queue at all passport if you know what i mean, is that true? Not only EP. I'd imagine any card also can as long as your fingerprints are stored with government. My fiancee before getting her EP, used to go through automated lane using passport even when she was on LTVP (long term visit pass)

QUOTE(alvin8866 @ Aug 17 2012, 10:44 PM) I'm holding a S-pass. My current salary is 2.8k. I would like to apply PR. Is possibility of getting PR application approved lower? Considering: Most online guides say P1 EP ($8k) should wait 1 year before applying, P2 EP should wait 2 years. Just saying.

QUOTE(newx @ Aug 21 2012, 07:00 PM) Are you a tenant or landlord? If you are a tenant, you never have to pay any fee to agent. If you are a landlord, you only need to pay once in the form of one month rental. You don't need to pay them again for renewal of lease since you don't use their service this time. That's what we practise in KL but I think it should be the same in SG too. It's not the same in SG ler. It's more or less standard practice here for two agents to co-broke, then tenant will pay half to "his" agent, and landlord will pay half to "his" agent. For renewals, the agents will typically write into the agreements that "if you renew this lease then you have to pay an additional 1 month agent fee to me" sort of thing. My agent unofficially told me no need to tell him or pay him, just handle everything myself *shrug*

QUOTE(LuisaLui @ Aug 21 2012, 10:34 PM) Because my friends always say that rental fee $500 is expensive wor, their sister stay only $300.I also don't know where they find. roughly speaking $300 is for share room. $500 is for your own utility (i.e. very small) room. common/master room about $700 and above. entire unit $2k and above.

Guys, any thoughts on SGD/MYR rate movement from now til end 2012?
Need quite a bit of MYR end of year / early next year to pay bills in KL/JB, wondering if I should change now or wait for a few months.

QUOTE(chess_gal @ Aug 23 2012, 04:41 PM) Rate is usually better during Raya month. if just to pay bills not much of impact unless you are buying house/property with huge outlay. else i think a few decimal change has minimal overall impact. Haha my bills are actually all the wedding stuff. pre-payment for banquet (1x JB 1x KL), pay photographers, pay this pay that ... so it's a decent enough amount of $$

QUOTE(shanelai @ Aug 26 2012, 09:16 AM) Haha.. I just felt that live in Singapore is kinda bored. Always stayed in the room the whole weekend.. my god.. Is this the fault of "Singapore?" Or is this because you lived your entire life outside of SG, and just moved here (i.e. your childhood friends, family, relatives are all in KL)?

QUOTE(nicodemus88 @ Aug 29 2012, 09:24 PM) Can I go down to Singapore and work as a part-timer while looking for a permanent job? What kind of work pass is needed? No you can't. You need a work pass to work. Work pass must be sponsored/initiated by the company who hires you. Needless to say no company will bother doing so for unskilled part-timer work.

QUOTE(raprap @ Sep 2 2012, 01:17 AM) Is it worth working in singapore or malaysia as singapore has high expense. But i do have accomodation. Accomodation is one of the biggest fixed expenses you will have here in SG, so if you have that available (for free) then there's no reason not to come here. You get paid roughly 1:1 (sgd:rm), but things are generally less than 1:1. The difficulty here is really not the choice of where to work, but whether you are able to find a job here in the first place - it's always more difficult to get hired in a foreign country vs your home country.
