Ask our resident singkaporean to book Costa Sands? The last round when we split two pits very mahfan have to keep walking up and down.
housing itself is enough to give a 'culture (wallet?) shock' to unsuspecting malaysians. my biggest mistake in coming over to SG was assuming that my GF (now fiancee) would get a job quickly and easily, so we happily decide to rent an entire hdb. turns out it wasn't as quick and easy as we expected icon_idea.gif ... in hindsight i would have gone for 2x rooms first, but oh well.

Now you buy KL property also sky high.

Btw, I am driving back this friday. Drop off at Kajang Town. Let me know if anyone keen to follow - 2 space available

Hi, wanted to transfer around SGD100K to MY.

Anyone here can shed light on the best method? Thanks.

Money remittances at arcade. Very safe. Highest transfer personally done 300k for some business transaction. No transaction cost. And even better exchange rate.

Where is this place?
U mean u gave them SGD300K, they will issue you a bank draft of let's say RM750K?
*
They transfer to your bank account in Msia. You just get a receipt. Yeah gave cash. Transfer in tranches though. Ask bank to give you 10000 note. Easy to carry.

Hope it's safe like that. Bcos u gave them cash but you get nothing in return until they bank in into your account and u still need to wait 2-3 days to clear.
*
I have done it multiple times, takan they wanna cheat your money in exchange of jail time right? All the money remittance in Arcade are long established money changer/remittance company and MAS is very strict on money changer/remittance company. hence doubt it is has any hanky panky activity, unless you are damn sueh to meet one in Singapore.

Like I said, you want to play safe, transfer 20k each time. Once first time okay, you may continue to transfer. Else you can go to bank, safer but a lot of admin fee and unfavourable exchange rate.

Last method, carry cash across the border (technically need to declare).

How do you intend to borrow that money?

Only residential housing loans offer that kind of interest rate. And banks do not disburse cash to the borrower. They disburse it to the developer or seller's lawyer. Same for commercial and other property loans.

Car loans are 4% iinm. They also disburse direct to the seller.

In short, the arbitrage opportunities have been all thought out and neutralized/penalized.
*
Car loan is at 1.88% only

One of my friend who has been working in Sg for past 5 years were detained at immigration at the airport when he was about to leave Malaysia, apparently he didnt declare his tax while he was in Singapore.

Upon investigation, he was told to submit an empty form despite no declaration moving forward. So, just fill in your name and submit an empty form online.

No, he went back for a holiday. msia income tax department is improving! they are pretty prompt in sorting out tax issue nowadays. Perhaps they hv a new KPI to meet?

Btw, last week I drove back to KL, there is this Lembu Sign on the highway, anyone notice it? Damn funny.

Ask chessgal or your agent for confirmation cos I taktaulol.

My understanding is that subletting in this case refers only to renting out the entire flat, and not to individual rooms. Because if you read that asiaone link I posted, it says:

"Under the old rules, all flat owners -- both Singaporeans and PRs -- who meet the minimum occupation period could apply to rent out their flats for a period of three years."

MOP only applies when an owner wants to rent out the entire flat. If the owner wants to rent out just a bedroom, there is no such concept as MOP. For room rental, HDB approval isn't even required, owners only need to inform HDB (sos). So I would conclude that if you are renting a room (or renting out a room), these new regulations do not affect you.
*
Ya betul. Only applies to renting out whole flat but not individual room. It is not uncommon that owner tries to go around the regulation by locking one room.

Yes, you need to pay for agent fees when they secure a job and you pass the interview for the job

Is it? I thought usually headhunter get paid by employer! Are you just pulling the poor fellow's leg?

As far as I am aware, commission/fee is payable by the employer.

Ah I see. I must be mistaken, cos I recall you saying you needed your PR (or was it your BF) to put in the booking fees, so I thought it's for HDB. Sorry!

In any case, interesting turn of events, though I'd say them Singaporeans gonna use this as an excuse to jack up rent, since supply is constricted.

so that we dont have to pay for the additional buyer stamp duty which is applicable for foreigner.

How scary? Double?

When I was talking bus during CNY, almost all company charge x2 the normal rate except company like Transnational, fixed price with insurance included. Plan early for coming Xmas, CNY break to avoid extra charge.

For those who drive, the scary part is the Jam at checkpoint. My worst experience is 3 hours at Tuas.
*
Chinese New Year, Raya, Christmas, never try to drive or travel by coach, horrendous jam at the causeway. Book air ticket in advance, my worst encounter was 3 hours at immigration + 5 hours of turtle speed on the highway. And worst thing is that uncle police cari makan on the road, block 3 lanes into 1! add salt to injury.

Or, drive at 2am/3am traffic should clear by then.

I have a friend, wife in KL and he goes back every week, friday night, fly back to KL, comes back late evening on sun.

If you book early, airticket about 100-120. I think reasonable to keep yourself sane if you do not have many friends or home sick.

Oo...bring not much different to the salary? thought become SPR can get better job with better salary?? at least better than any Pass holder? rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif
*
Your thought is wrong then, if SPR is better than Pass Holder, Does it mean, Singaporean pay is better than SPR?

Singaporean > SPR > EP > WP??

For EP & WP maybe a different but not much after you are an EP.

Usually EP are granted to graduates so chances are your pay is a graduate pay.

You only get extra 16% not 36%. 20% is from your gross salary. And yes, capped at $5k salary, hence you get extra $800 per month if your company decides to refund you the employer CPF.

However, reimbursement is not compulsory for every company as such is not tax deductible and has to be added back in tax, such practice is only prevalent in MNC companies to incentivised those who has no employment fund in Singapore. But for smaller company, it might not be the case.

Money was good when I wasnt a PR, extra cash every month.

Guys, any thoughts on SGD/MYR rate movement from now til end 2012?

Need quite a bit of MYR end of year / early next year to pay bills in KL/JB, wondering if I should change now or wait for a few months.
*
Rate is usually better during Raya month. if just to pay bills not much of impact unless you are buying house/property with huge outlay. else i think a few decimal change has minimal overall impact.

Hi guys, can you share with me how to ask for the JPJ extract in Malay?
*
Go to JPJ say this

"Bang, nak dapatkan JPJ Extract"

They would pass a form to you to fill in and pay RM10 as processing fee.

If they ask you, what is it for

"Nak pandu kat luar negara" (Australia, UK, US NOT Singapore)

Dont mention

"Nak dapatkan license kat Singapore"

No, I didnt have to fill in any country. Mine was just full name, IC, purpose "to drive oversea", and a RM10 note. Got my extract within an hour from JPJ Bangi.

No question asked.
