It will be burden a bit to find replacement. But the good thing is u havent even started. So they already have a list of candidates from the interview. You're not the only person qualified for the job. Im sure they have many back ups.

Also remember that under probation they can choose to not confirm u. So both parties are there to evaluate each other. U find better offer and run is the same as they find u not good enough and not confirm u. If they r good employer they will understand

Another way to look at it, why can't they give you better offer ? If they really need you, of course they will counter offer back, if not, they actually don't bother much and probably have another candidate to fill up that void pretty soon also. Stop feeling sorry for them, and look forward to join the new company.

Hi guys,

i am facing a similar dilemma, i have verbally accepted an offer from company X about 3 weeks ago and i am to start work next monday. However, i have received invitations for interview (one final and one second interview) from company Y and Z next tuesday (one in the morning and another in the afternoon).

I am more interested in these 2 companies and really want to give them a shot but how do i apply for leave on the 2nd of work. Is it normal for ppl to take leave on the 2nd day of work ? And company X has been really nice to me cause they accepted my request to start work in the beginning of June, which is 3 weeks away from the time i am offered the position.

One part of me is telling me to reject the 2 interviews and settle for company X as i have made them wait for 3 weeks. The other part of me is telling me to apply for leave and go for the interviews as these 2 companies interest me more. Please advise.

For your reference,
Company X - Groupon Talent Programme (offered a position)
Company Y - Philip Morris Grad Trainee (last stage and also the toughest part of the whole interview process - i would say 30% of getting the job, slim chance)
Company Z - P&G CBD Key account manager (2nd f2f interview, there's another final one - i would say higher chance than Y since it's not a trainee program; hence less competition)

Wow. U are such a good hr manage. May I know after sign the offer letter which reason to left would most acceptable by u?

Btw if the term and condition state if sign d don't work need to pay one month salary. Will they reli asking for it or just let u go.?

Plus how if the company willing to wait u one month more until u graduate? Thnx.

Normally those people will not be contactable, normally don't answer calls from your office anymore, so you won't be getting any reason also.

Yes, company actually can go to labour dept to report it, but come on, you really think M'sia companies have many HR personnel nothing better to do than chasing that RM2k++ or more? Probably those Chinaman will go for it, but chances are slim. Myself is not doing HR only, so I definitely don't have time to even find a replacement, let alone go to labour dept.

Like that seem there are no different if u have signed or not signed the offer letter. U still can looking for better offer right.?

I think many fresh grad will face this prob soon. Hope those who experienced this before can provide some advise.

i think the most important thing is that to ensure the party that you are about to turn down their offer being properly informed.

i hv a couple of questions in my head... i would like to know what are the possibilities that the new hr is doing these:
- offer a job the next day, sending emails (at least 1, sometimes 2 or 3) EVERYDAY asking me when is the start date
- kind of forcing me to offset my AL and join them earliest as possible, tat's why keep sending emails everyday
- after telling them the date i wanted to be, they suggested a date much earlier than it
- LO ready, asked me to sign the next day, i suggest 1 week later, they said cannot wait for tat long

may i know what the company really want to play?
come on, i still working and having my own concerns too, and also need time to consider (offer not up to expected)...
why can they keep disturbing me like mad?
i feel real frustrated and once/twice wanted to reject them already...

Since you haven't signed, it's okay. Though comp A may sound pissed, but life goes on...

I'm curious though. Say if you already want candidate A, but after waiting for them serving notice (1-2months), contract signed, but ended up never show. What are you gonna do? How do you manage such a situation?

You still need someone to do the job.

happens all d time. just have to contact the next most suitable candidate, or take temp worker from agensi first lor.

Hmm.. In a slightly varied situation...

Resigned to join Company A...
- Company A supposedly needs to wait 1 mth after signed offer letter, but I extend to 2 mths bcoz of avoid losing bonus pay out in current company.
- Company A requests earlier join date. So requested early release (self compensated current company) and join Company A earlier.
- Company A pays in total package the expected amount I asked for.

Started in Company A a few days, and got offered from Company B.
- Company B pays about 10-12% more than I asked. Amount asked is same with both companies. But Company B comes with much more benefits overall.
- Company B is the one I always wanted to join since graduated.

So, would like to enquire if:
- Is it bad to terminate employment with Company A after working for just about a week?
- Supervisor has planned out training plans. Currently still in learning period only.
- Notice period is one week during probation, but is it possible to be released since there's no point for me to sit in the office for 1 week where I only do learning at the moment? It doesn't seem practical if I continue to do study and then leave one week later. No tasks assigned yet so nothing to handover or transition.
- Will I get blacklisted by Company A?
- I guess it will not leave a good impression to Company A and cause a lot of inconvenience but Company B's package is way more attractive. And I don't think Company A can match up to Company B's package.

Opinions from you all?

I have once signed the offer letter from the new company.... Then suddenly my company made a counter offer.... The offer was really to good to turn down..... Then I politely called the new company and explained to them, luckily they were understanding and accepted it...

I am sure that getting interviews left right and centre would have suggested that to you. Guess not.

You should have suggested to the HR of the 2 companies that one of your interviews look good that you need your interview to be scheduled earlier since you are interested in working for the company but it would be a little complicated since you have another company that is about to make you an offer. If you did well for the first interview in company Y and Z then i am sure they would have accomodated your request. Then you would not have any dilema in the first place. Life is also a game friend. You need to have strategies. Otherwise how are you going to win?

So are you willing to pay Company A the compensation that they paid for your early release? I think you have to since they paid for your bonus. If company B is the dream company i think it's worth it. Then just tell them that for some private reason you need to leave and that by law you can leave in 1 weaks time with no pay but because you dun feel good you are willing to forfeit the bonus that they have paid you.

This is a last minute thing. I already verbally accepted the offer, and the contract is right in front of me. If I sign, I am expected to start work next week. Plus, the employer is already giving better terms than what I originally asked for. If I "re-raise", wouldn't that infuriate the HR and my future boss?
