Here is my scenario.

1. I verbally accepted a job position at company A last week. Company A went on to prepare offer letter and contract. The contract has not been signed by me.

2. I have recently received another job offer from company B, offering better terms with the same amount of job scope.

Since I have already verbally accepted company A, how should I reject them so that I can sign for company B? Will this affect my future/reputation because my promises don't count?

For your information I am in the Software Development line.

never thought of it this way before, but this is right.

TS - not sure with the reason why the HR didn't immediately had you to a sign any contracts immediately but it's their responsibility to do that.
*
The reason the HR didn't sign me immediately is because they have others to interview. I also had other interviews to attend, so I wouldn't sign on my first interview. The job offer states I have 3 days to consider before the offer expires. It is the 2nd day today.

and while within that 3 days you verbally noticed them your acceptance?
*
No, the 3 days doesn't include verbal acceptance. I was contacted by phone last week to ask if I want to accept. I said OK. Then Company A prepared the job offer. Is it still too late to reject this offer?

Just tell the hr you got better offer and reject it. I dont think it will affect your future since you havent work wif them before they wont waste their time to anti u. Im sure they haf other candidates in mind and u reject they will just take the next one.

When u start work u still under probation and they will still evaluate u. Got chance they dont want u at end of probation

Therefore in this case, it will be OK to leave during probation period? Won't that burden the HR to find a replacement?

I don't see any problem here, just accept whichever you feel right. I am HR Manager, I have seen many candidates sign up offer letter oso won't turn up to work. What else HR can do ? Go to the pasar near your home and tell everyone there? Cheerz!

Haha! I hope everyone is as open minded as you. I just feel bad for making empty promises.

It will be burden a bit to find replacement. But the good thing is u havent even started. So they already have a list of candidates from the interview. You're not the only person qualified for the job. Im sure they have many back ups.

Also remember that under probation they can choose to not confirm u. So both parties are there to evaluate each other. U find better offer and run is the same as they find u not good enough and not confirm u. If they r good employer they will understand

Great answer. Thanks.

Dun mean to pour cold water on you but seriously are you a programmer? Dun want to push your luck? You got a better offer somewhere else so what do you mean by pushing your luck? Seriously, if  you suggest a better offer, it's either they reject that offer and you get to  your job with a better offer or they give you the better offer anyways. What do you mean by pushing your luck? And why are you so worried about reputation? Just proof yourself. If you are a failure in your work it does not matter how much integrity you have.  But from the way your post I would not expect much anyways. It's not as if this company is going to spread news around saying that you are a defaulter. I mean the IT industry is so huge. I am sure that getting interviews left right and centre would have suggested that to you. Guess not.
This is a last minute thing. I already verbally accepted the offer, and the contract is right in front of me. If I sign, I am expected to start work next week. Plus, the employer is already giving better terms than what I originally asked for. If I "re-raise", wouldn't that infuriate the HR and my future boss?

Quite straight forward. Just send an email to them saying that you do not want to take up the job due to personal issues. Apologize for the trouble you caused . If they called you up just apologize and say that you cannot take up that job due to unforeseen circumstances and it is not convenient to reveal it. At least this shows that you respect the company.

This sounds appropriate. I don't want to show disrespect to anyone. Thanks!
