At the age of 30, finally took the 1st step today to sign up a swimming lesson in preparation for my PADI Open Water Diving certification.

Never swim before, but not afraid of water. I was told by others that swimming was the most relax activity one can do.

Today my conclusion is, F&%K, freaking exhausting.  doh.gif
Today just manage to learn how to kick in breaststroke. I was static at the same location for 30minutes I guess before I realize how the kick can generate propulsion and move the body forward.

I recall I got accidentally kick on other ppl legs before. Really feel sorry about that, as I cannot control my direction, a lot of time also lost balance from the board.
I feel like my body has a natural tendency to buoyant. Notice this when the trainer asked me to take a breath and look under the surface to see how he does the kick. Then when I bend down my waist, feel like a force push me upward. Didn't expect that as I recall during my childhood I can easily sit down on the bottom of pool.

"look forward" to 2nd class.  sweat.gif

Congratulation & welcome to the world of swimming. Just be patient to learn your lesson & do the practice. Not to worry about the age to learn swimming, I learn my freestyle swimming at age 39, haha. I'm older than you, but I love swimming. XD

By the way, I got a bit not understand about you say your body has a natural tendecy to buoyant. Is that mean you can float??

First of all, congratulations to you!  rclxm9.gif

As for the buoyancy part of you, it is the same to all the other swimmers. I get the same dead body posture on the surface with my face facing down under water. The only way to push myself down into the water is to exhale some air out and push myself into the water and that is when I am able to stay underwater. Is all about how you control the air in your lungs.

Sadly to say, I have bad air capacity in my lungs. I can't stay underwater for more than 15 seconds  cry.gif
*
LOL, brother. Usually we not swim under water is it?? Then you can stay underwater 15 seconds is good la. tongue.gif

Is it easy to learn from youtube u think?
*
Hi, there. I don't think it is easy learning swim from youtube. Because you can't see you done it correct or wrong. Unless you can film it up, and watch it after each practice, then ask coach or expert to help analysis your mistake and provide how to fix it.

I would suggest hiring a coach to save time, of course must hiring a good coach. If not will waste money... sweat.gif

Normally a good coach will point out your mistake & provide solution how to fix it. Swim happy ya. thumbup.gif

Thanks for feedback... but I guess hiring a coach will not be my option for now.

Just want to swim as exercise and learn additional new stroke if possible..
*
Hi, there. Just want let you know some of my personal opinion, why I suggest hiring coach if you can. Because the bad habits is really hard to go away, if we already swim with wrong strokes since long ago. Not to say cannot, because really hard to change.

Just like the 2 beat kick I learn, I learn freestyle since zero experience. It is amazingly, I'm learn it more easy than my friends which already got 3 years freestyle swimming experience. Coach say it is because of the old habits hard to change.

Just my personal 2 cents... tongue.gif

May i know where is this place?

Morning, just want to provide my personal opinion again. Go and see the coach how to train, and how's the student performance before you join the class, I'm sure they will allow you visit them before you join the class.

Previously, I already visit more than 5 swimming class before I join the class. Because I don't waste the money, before survey. Actually, in that time what I want to see is not how coach can train the student become faster swimmer. I just want learn freestyle swimming with efficient, enjoy & relax, because I'm not a competitive swimmer, because I'm an old man too, LOL. sweat.gif

Must see how's the coach train & how's the performance from students. At last, I choose the most expensive class, after I do the survey.

Just my another 2 cents... Must swim happy ah. laugh.gif

Back from my 2nd class today.
Today learned arm movement and breathing coordination.
I think I am too old already brain cannot coordinate body to do 3 things. I either arm and leg do correctly forgotten to breath, or arm and breath do correctly forgotten to kick.

But I am happy that today I can take away that buoyant noodle, although once in a while still need it. That noodle keep pushing up on my abdomen made me feel like want to vomit near the end of the session (that was what happen during 1st day).

I get myself a kick board from Aeon to do some own training to increase to rate of learning.

Anyone here go to Subang 3K swimming pool or Kelana Jaya swimming pool at weekday after 5:30pm?

Two questions:

1) i have a kick board now ut i do not have a pull buoy. If I want to train my breath and arm coordination, is it must get a pull buoy? can the kick board replace it? Although I feel quite hard to caught the kick board in between the legs due to its slim profile.

2) Can the following casio watch used in  swimming?
user posted image
Model: WS220-1AV
In manual it does say water resistant 100m. But since there is a lot of jumping and splashing in the pool  I am not sure 100m water resistant is good enough for swimming use or not. I have this as my running watch.
*
Bro, is great to see you again here. That's is normal for cannot coordinate from beginning, swimming is a muscle memory training. The more you train, the more you will become automatic, next time try to focus one thing in practice. After you feel already done it right, then focus another part.

For the watch if it write as water resist 50M, 100M, then is ok for swimming. I still wear my Cheap Casio RM50 until now. rclxs0.gif

I have visited there last month to check out is there any swimming lesson available. That time not yet available.
I did walk in to have a quick look at the pool, it looks clean, and because as you said, many people thought it is still not yet re-open, very little people that time.

I think it is worth a re-visit for you.
The thing I like about 3K is it is indoor, so rain or no rain also can swim.
I never swim at 3K before btw. But I think I only see one life guard for such a big pool. Maybe they are still hiring crews.

Let me know your feeling after your re-visit.  icon_rolleyes.gif

shocking.gif shocking.gif Check my bad experience at 3k pool at previous post. I only can say it is horrible, hopefully they already improve the slip problem. doh.gif

I did not jump inside and swim so I really do not know whether the water quality and the muddy feeling you complaint last time has been solved already or not.
But I agree that the floor was slippery. When I visited it was still slippery. So I guess they never really take an effort to put anything on the floor. You got to wear a good slipper i guess.

Thanks a lot to share me the price information. I will give it a try at next week, & see how is it. tongue.gif

Oh God... I am speechless now  blink.gif
However, for me, having a swimming academy taking over a public pool is never a good thing... You will only see few lanes opened for public while the rest will be reserved for training like how Bukit Jalil used to be... Even Bukit Jalil have 2 pools, but they will use one quarter of the pools available for training...
*
Yes, you are correct. Yesterday 8pm went to Panasonic pool which is host by same D Swim Academy, only open 4 small lanes for public. I can say it is hell! Totally can't swim at all, accident like hell. Because a lot of swimmer not follow the rule to swim, which is right side go left side back.

Need wait until 9:15am the class finish, then open back other lanes to public. Haiz....

Anyone knows which swimming is better in Putrajaya area? Im a beginner, can swim but still not confident in more than 1.8 meter depth. Im 1.7m height.

Precint 6? How's the depth?
Precint 16? How's the depth?

Marina - This one is good, indoor but slightly expensive (RM5.30 for 2 hours session). Compared to the P6 & P16 is RM2
*
I never try Putrajaya before, but RM5.30 is not the most expensive pool. PJ palm need RM9 for night time season. LOL

Actually swimming is only around 1 - 2 hours sport, if you feel Marina is good & near for you. Than just swim there. thumbsup.gif

Last two week ago sprain my left thigh while doing breast stroke kick, yesterday sprain my right thigh for the same reason.

I am curios do you all who do breast stroke or consider yourself a good breast storke swimmer, happen to have strong thigh and able to kick strongly easily?

I suspect my thigh muscle is not strong enough so every time when the instructor asks me to kick stronger, I tried hard and end up putting a lot of stress on my thigh, then at the end of the lesson got little sprain.

Posture wise my instructor says I am ok although not perfect yet (legs have the habit of occasionally not close together after the kick) so I think is not because of wrong posture.
*
Er... Brother, I think you already over use power. Swimming should be in relaxing, not just using strength. So, be relax. cool2.gif

I tried relax. But couch said my kick does not produce enough propulsion, so I tried harder.

ok try relax next time.

Brother, sorry to tell I don't know much about breaststroke. But from what I learnt, freestyle propulsion is not only come from kicking.

It is combine with switch timing, hip rotation, under water stroke, kicking & weight shift. My kicking is not hard at all, I think breaststroke should be similar like this too. Correct me if I wrong. tongue.gif
