I have read somewhere that walkers are actually not that good for a baby's development.
And also babies can reach things when they are in walkers that they were not able to reach if they are without walkers.
I'll try to look for the article and post it here.

My baby 5 month plus already give him walker
. Make sure your baby structure strong and stable already or put pillow around him .I suggest buy Bean brand. Very caring design . Bottom have 4 side stopper to prevent the walker accidentally ramp to floor drop area . The walker won't collaps or fall. The stopper will hang the walker in position between two different floor level. Then it also don't have steel cross bar beside to prevent baby climb out from walker. And this walker seat cushion also deep enough.

I bought a walker for my baby. I suppose its good if you don't overuse it. I try not to let my baby depend too much on it. She actually likes the walker as she can "walk" around even before she could walk. But as I said, I only use it sparingly... Don't want her to get too used to it...

and yes there's article on how it coud affect ya baby's body structure but if you really wants to use it( which i think many parents are using it) pls make sure your baby is able to sit and support her back.. dont start too early..

Don't you think giving them walkers may discourage them from learning to walk themselves since they already have the walker? Also how would it impact the baby's development when they "walk" in sitting position?

walker wasn't abuse to encourage the baby to "sit and walk" for long run...
it just a convenient for a "curious" baby who like to walk around the environment by himself without adult's assistance...
once the baby know how to crawl properly, the walker have no purpose anymore...

if anyone think walker is used to teach the baby how to walk, definitely is wrong...
the baby should learn by themselves for crawl, stand and walk with little adult's assistance and patient and without relying on any equipments

Btw the walker does impact the baby's ability to crawl.. I've seen some babies whom were put in the walker for too often, when they start walking, they cant event sit due to under-developed lower body. One actually tip-toe when she walks..

For me walker should only be used after baby can sit and crawl.. it keeps them from slamming their head on the floor or accidently hitting the wall.

sometime walker also have danger too especially the baby trying to pick the stuff on the floor as they may use their leg to "jack up" themselves from inside... it happened to my baby as trying to get out from walker, end up he lost the balance and his head slam on the walker's body outside frame and with up-side down mode as lucky his leg still inside the walker... otherwise his head will heading to the floor... sweat.gif

There are a lot of conflicting advice given by surrounding people.. they meant good but sometimes it doesnt suit our way...

At the end if the day, we're the parents and its our job to decide for the children without being bullied by naggings from others.

Well said. I totally agree, especially the bullying and nagging part smile.gif

I am not against the usage of baby walker if you decide to get one. Afterall, we as parents are the ones who make the final (informed) decision. You have to stand firm in what you believe in and I know every parents think in the best interest of their children.

As for us, we did not use baby walker. My MIL and SIL were nagging us to use one just because "everyone" uses one. They feel it is weird and my baby is "missing out" on something if he doesn't use baby walker.

Anyway, he is an independant active boy, with great motor skills. He started crawling, cruising and walking very early compared to his peers.

I just bought 1 for my boy, but he just doesn't like it. Seem like my boy prefer to learn by him self. He is 8 months plus, but already crawling and move around my whole house. Can even stand if only 1 hand holding something. Guess he thinks he like to walk/crawl all by himself.

ya if the price is not too high why not get one, but if you can 'borrow' or get second hand walker would be better as some babies actually do not like it, put the baby in the walker would be better than letting the baby crawling around the house. But in my niece's case, she only use the walker for just 1-2 months as she started walking quite early, and we didn't want her to use the walker when she was very small as we think that her body was still very soft, so she started to use the walker when she was 8-9 months, she started walking when she was approaching 1 year, after that she doesn't want to use the walker at all, started crying crazily whenever we put her into the walker.

IMO, buying anything for the kid is like buying a toy - something personal.
The kid has to like it first.

Then, is the safety and ergonomics into consideration.
Safety, like the build material, toppling over, and braking using the frame in case one of the wheels falls over an edge. When this happens, would it start to slide and send the kid over rolling? Or it stops?

When a kid is using it, consider it highly mobile and dangerous. Must have adult supervision, or at least in an enclosed area. Limit the time using it.

not true.

all this are myth from marketing.

As long as you don't over work the babies in the walker, 10-15 minutes time will be fine to exercise using their legs.

my baby walker has a pad at the bottom to protect baby during 6mth+..
now she just stand when inside walker n prefer to crawl..
she just loves to crawl n crawl, this will help hand, leg coordination n help motor development..

active baby helps grow their brain, crawl stand is good n normal..

Moral from walker..

I bought one for my 1st baby boy. We use it about 2 months plus..

Then simpan. Then use again for the 2nd one.. Then simpan.

Now onto my 3rd baby also use around 2 months plus & she can walk d now so off the walker go back into store room.

No worries bout the myth of using walker.

Its just for a short span of period. But ease up their walking & others also.
