All NA owners on the list -have you booked your 1st service already, mind sharing the experience?

My French Guy neigbour owned a 308 and told me Peugeot car is great, service so-so, but kept on saying peugeot's a good car. He told me glenmarie Blue box is the worstn service, the rest is ok. he now gets service done in PJ.

Being a week old NA owner...my number one complaint is the rough gear shift when you are slow...wonder if this common...seemed to be the same conclusion every one has. And no sync with my iphone but that's OK as I still observed the driving etiquete of "no phone-talk while driving"... cool2.gif

I just had my first inspection yesterday, I am well entertained with the complaints.
I am not sure their after sales service previously, but some said they are improving. All my experienced yesterday is quite ok. Might depends on which SC u sent to.

Bought my Lion from 4S @Jln Chan sow Lin and most likely will send it back there for service, where did you send yours?

Many have commented on the bare rear. Like i said before, the lion stands out. But at night, due these lights, the rear looks very elegant, unlike most cars on the road! thumbup.gif

Nothing special at 1st inspection. It's a general look over with fluid topup if necessary. Only takes a few minutes, but you'll probably wait at the SC an hour plus. At Glenmarie, make your booking at least 3-4weeks before it's due.

I'm not surprised about your neighbours comment on service at Glenmarie.  Glenmarie has moves to a new and bigger premises. It is still not big enough as the number of Pugs has grown. It is now Peugeot Blue Box and incorporates  several  changes to improve service and customer support. There are improvements but perhaps not as fast as one would like!

A number of our bros have commented on the slightly jerky gears at low speeds of the AT8 tranny. I understand it is nothing serious and is a smooth tranny. However you should mention this at your 1st inspection. As for the non Bluetooth connection  to iPhone, it's a software problem. Present Bluetooth software in the car does not support some versions of the IPhone.

Good stuff ! Thanks! Great to know here exist a brotherhood of lion tamers. Getting Lion is a very bold step for me akin to taking the leap of faith. This forum has been part of the reason I make that choice!

Hi guys, I just booked a 408T last friday, now waiting for financing application/offers. Only offer I got at the moment is 2.44% from Maybank with 9years tenure. From my calculations a 0.1% difference in interest rate for 108mths will amount to about 1k difference, should I just go for the 2.44% maybank or wait a bit more for other banks to offer? Thanks
*
A very good rate as far as compared to what I've got. So you've booked it with 1st year road tax and insurance free of charge? Envy

Wow damage is rm2.6 k initial assessment by balakong actually cheras jaya centre. Got to wait for parts n leave car for 4 days... But need to get parts arrival first. Workmanship n spraying alone cost RM950.00! If opt to replace the whole front bumper will cost 4k++ (just parts alone)

It is parts that is costly- I have to get 3 parts replaced. The biggest piece is bout half a grand. Doing it outside will not save much cause u still needs the parts. N unlike common brands. .. Sum more in the case of 408...There ain't no potong parts or compatible parts...not yet anyway

Hmmm...  You're not trolling, are you?

Facebook likes :-P

Kia Malaysia    135k
Mercedes Malaysia 89k
Peugeot Malaysia 63K
Proton 60k
Honda Malaysia 58k
BMW Malaysia 41k
Hyundai Malaysia 14k
Toyota official FB page is nonexistent, but the sum of vios, altis and hilux page likes is 60k.

By eyeballing these figures, I don't think it correlates with demand in terms of cars on the road. Probably just means that it appeals more to FB users.

Plus, apparently 63K is no small number.

Good sets of number but
Since when we need FB "likes" dictate anything in our life... Our choice? If I care too much what other likes or don't , I won't b driving a fantastic car today, would I?

Speaking of car breaks down and need to be towed. Last 12 months alone I have 3 such incidents with my old car- a certain korean brand (but to do them justice, i have really abused and clocked in something like 290k on the mileage) And when car breaks down it is really shitty but luckily my insurance company has complimentary towing service 30 km from where u need you car towed to n I paid a lot for the repair but not a thing for the towing

I must say the balakong SC experience so far has been pleasant... Sent my p408 for collision repair n was given a shuttle service to drop me off at AEON taxi stand to get a cab... The cabby asked me is the guy my fren n when I told him nope he is shuttle service to taxi stand from my car service centre he was surprised n asked "adake servis cam tu?" I asked the SC guy who has given me the lift <in a P207> why there are so many people giving praise to balakong n why the place is jammed with cars while others like glenmarie get criticised big time... He said he don't know perhaps the system is different he added that puchong SC was said to have given poor service he said most stuff he actually heard from customer who come here after whatever they have experienced in other SC... Mind you I have been to Glenmarie n even the newly officiated Chan sow Lin's where I have bought my car... Boy these newer SCs looks mighty nice but the service I have heard n read suggest it is so-so to even nasty [hey hey nasty n nice as opposed to naughty n nice]. The Balakong one is far n anything but impressive.. . But yet the place is packed and the lady asked me to always at least give a week notice...for booking...me Think I am gonna book all my future service here .... Any comments , guys? Any one send to PJ SC how's the place?

kensomuse just post a link on the poor after sale service rendered to him by veemer.motor.

he waited for an hour plus the towing service. got.pissed off with the excuse of no stock and spent rm150 to get his car towed to another sc for repairing and got it done in 1 1/2day. best part is his sales advisor took the effort to go to his house to collect his car key. i think my sales advisor has forgotten about me lo.. :-)

oh ya, his car broke down due to the infamous mechatronic fault.

morale of the story in my humble opinion,  all cars break down somewhere somehow and its a matter of time.

reminds me of my old waja which serves me good in last 6 years withour.major issue except.fuel pump and battery malfunction. should i praise proton or i was jus another lucky guy on the road? but, everything else about proton is crap...bad after sales service, car underpower, bad handling and the list is endless. hahaha...

Yes agree ! Sound proofing is not a strong point of Peugeot ...but I still can't beat the great feeling of anticipation whenever I step into my car like it is going to take me to great places... It almost like the car saying don't sweat over the small stuff, u have bigger things to accomplish?!!

Agreed. No need to get defensive. For me, I will not 100% believe anything that is said in a forum unless I can find reliable reference somewhere else. Thus, I (or anybody else) could easily assume that the 20min towing response by Peugeot stated in Autoworld forum is fabricated as well. Anyhow, I would prefer to believe that the response timing is dependent on the location and time of the breakdown rather than believing that someone fabricate something like this.
*
Agree TOTALLY one such obvious back up is from your car insurer!

Certainly no harm in a backup number. Response will depend on many factors.
*
Response can also depends on how near the next tow truck is. These people are always on the move... The last I have spoken to such fellow with my old car towed at the back is any given day they are towing something like 5 cars a day a good day eight. That is almost a car every working hour !!!

Hi I bought my 408NA also from CSL, I ask to avoid some number I did not like and pay 320 for it. But if you did not ask for any thing like that, like others said it should be included in your OTR price . I pay 320 becoz of having runner doing the JPJ thing. My fren have just go to JPJ and line up there to register his new car number (nothing special like double number or special numbering. Just the combination of ong number like 3 lah 8 lah 9 lah 2 lah that sort of thing). DYI he also pay 210.00 to JPJ KL

Before I bought my 408NA ( now 2 months old and clocked in >3,000 km), I have test driven Ford Focus, checked up VW Jetta and even polo sedan. At the same time view the new Honda civic, face lifted Nissan sylphy and Mazda 3. I have decided to forget about Nissan and Honda for a very simple reason, most popular Japs car are practical but mostly boring inside out and the design is full of aspect that just irks me. Let's face it, these mass produced japs car is not meant to be exciting. Mazda offers some external visual designer excitement. But when I viewed the interior and cockpit BECAUSE THAT IS WHERE I AM GOING TO SPEND MOST OF MY TIME IN, I find the material in there, its internal finishing and the design very generics just like the current Hyundai and Kia cars---Great from the outside... But once u step in, u are back into ordinary realm. Both German VW and Ford (Thai-made) are meant to be mass market affordable cars just that it did not translate into that due to the not so nice and hefty excise duty. i Like the technology advancement or supremacy shown by German and American ( please tell me that you do know whole ford is but chevvy cruze is not) I don't breathe and live technology advancement for a car. I instead live and breathe comfort, style, elegant , class, and most importantly a car that is really one with ample legroom, head room, shoulder to shoulder distance. Peugeot 408 is not winner of all aspects, and i don't think it is trying to be but I will forego a push start button anytime for cruise control. I will choose a well built solid steel laden with a door that closes with a thud but come at a price of higher fuel consuming car from a lighter and lower fuel consuming car with door closing at a ugly bang sound. In summary I have chosen this car and would chose it again over and over again because I am finally able to buy a car with all those qualities that I miss, because car maker seldom care for them any more, such as notice how smaller and smaller new generation of most car model gets?!

And last but not least. Another pug's quality that I like is the steering wheel that is cluster free from all the numerous control that other car makers crammed in to a steering wheel. Instead it is operated with sensible stalks behind the wheel. This together with the classy dashboard is so damn comfortable to be in and visually pleasing, actually makes it hard to leave the driver seat!!

Yes, while i agree that more n more ppl should start choosing other makes over the Japanese, we also need to keep in mind that one of the things that Japanese car makers like Toyota excel in is long term durability. This is something both the Koreans and French are trying very hard to replicate. Both you and many of us here on LYN have brand new non Japanese cars. We dont know how things are gonna be in say 5-7 years time. So while its good that we're happy with how things are now, we must always remember that a majority of problems the Koreans and French makes faced, came after a few years of ownership. That's what destroyed their credibility both in Malaysia and overseas.

My family had 3 previous generation Peugeots, all of which were CBU France and all had numerous problems. Same with the Korean makes. Right now if im not mistaken the 408 is manufactured in China or Argentina rite? So quality could be better or worse. So although our cars come with better physical looks and better specs, durability over the longer term is still something which none of us know of at this moment.

We just have to keep our fingers crossed i guess. But for now, we'll enjoy our rides.  biggrin.gif

Just wondering if 'My family had 3 previous generation Peugeots, all of which were CBU France and all had numerous problems. Same with the Korean makes.', why do u still buy Peugeot and another Korean ???

Mind sharing your opinion on Mazda 3, Jetta and Focus when compared to 408NA?

BTW, way back when I was looking for a new car, Mazda 3 (1.6) was my first choice but it felt sluggish and their 2.0 variant is out of my budget.

Then I went for Elantra 1.6 HS. Felt sluggish as well. Before I could test drive their 1.8 variance, I tested 408T & NA. And the rest as they say, is history.

IMHO, Elantra is an average car. The driving experience is average, interior is average. Ok..it's exterior is quite outstanding and it's safety feature is slightly above average. But 408T and Focus have impressive safety feature with more power and price worthy.

I'm not undermining or questioning other people's decision but I'm honestly glad that I found out about the launching of 408 or else I would've bought the Elantra. Again, it's just my opinioin and needs on what is required in a car. My point here is, I could go for a car which have won the car of the year, or the bestselling car or the most reliable car but at the end of the day, I believe one should look for a car which fits their needs.
I've heard about this battery problem on Pug's car and posted about it sometime ago. Anyway, battery check is part of their checklist when doing servicing. They've done mine during the 10k service.

Sorry for the late reply but was so damn busy. First and foremost, I am a 5'10'' dude and was looking for a segment D and found them too expansive and P408 though segment C was having all the quality that I needed at an affordable price.

What do I mean? Mazda 3 , jetta and focus all is too smallish and uncomfortable to me (and I believe would too for any one the size of my built) when mostly you will get 45++mm length +17xx mm width + 14XX mm height with wheelbase of 2,6++mm

Just to zoom in on the 3 (Mazda 3, Jetta and Focus ) compared to P408, below is the score card.
length width Height W/base
mazda 3 4580 1755 1470 2640
VW Jetta 4644 1778 1482 2651
Ford Focus 4534 1824 1466 2648
P 408 4682 1815 1525 2710

I sat in A P408, and I wanted nothing else after....Just go and compare to say the cheapest segement D, Nissan Teana
at RM138k, to top range VW passat, and even Mazda 6

length width Height W/base
Nissan Teana 4850 1795 1480 2775
Passat 4769 1820 1470 2712
Mazda 6 4735 1795 1440 2725

You will find P408 is the longest segment C but shorter to all sement Ds but P408 still comes in wider than a segment D's Teana and Mazda 6 narrower to a Passat by just a mere 5 mm but lo and behold at a height of 1525, it is heigher than all segment D available i.e. including camry, mondeo, accord, k5, sonata. The wheelbase of 2710 topple all segment C rival and is very close to again segment D'sPassat and Mazda 6

I was looking for room, and boy I have found plenty of room

Then looking at the widgets...althought having no start stop button/keyless entry compare to the lowest prized segmnet D Nissan Teana, at 109,888 2.0 NA compare to 138,000 same 2.0 NA , I still get Autolight, Aoto Wiper, Auto Cruze, electric Side mirror which Teana cannot give at 138k.

Need I say more?

P408 is no segment D granted and no argument there but once in awhile when I happen to park my car next to VW passat or Jetta or more commonly accord, Camry and Teana. It still set me off smiling to see them side by side with visibly taller 408 and almost as wide if not wider especially when happen to be next to a Teana .

in singapore, P408 is selling at $151,800 (turbo, don't think the 2.0 NA is available) above Volkswagen Jetta selling from : $143,800 and the popular Toyota Corolla Altis$133,988, Honda Civic from $141,900, Nissan Sylphy from $120,800, Ford Focus from $137,888 and Mazda 3 from $135,988.... almost the price of Nissan Qashqai from $153,800

Now if you are a Singaporean, and not as lucky as Malaysian in term having such good pricing, what would u do?
