i agree with the stalks behind the steering...very useful at the right places. at first it was difficult as you cant see them but once u know where they are...u never press the wrong button coz they're not a bunch of buttons side by side...u can keep ur eyes on the road while tweaking things .. i actually like the cluster free steering wheel too

Yes, while i agree that more n more ppl should start choosing other makes over the Japanese, we also need to keep in mind that one of the things that Japanese car makers like Toyota excel in is long term durability. This is something both the Koreans and French are trying very hard to replicate. Both you and many of us here on LYN have brand new non Japanese cars. We dont know how things are gonna be in say 5-7 years time. So while its good that we're happy with how things are now, we must always remember that a majority of problems the Koreans and French makes faced, came after a few years of ownership. That's what destroyed their credibility both in Malaysia and overseas.
My family had 3 previous generation Peugeots, all of which were CBU France and all had numerous problems. Same with the Korean makes. Right now if im not mistaken the 408 is manufactured in China or Argentina rite? So quality could be better or worse. So although our cars come with better physical looks and better specs, durability over the longer term is still something which none of us know of at this moment.
We just have to keep our fingers crossed i guess. But for now, we'll enjoy our rides.

Just wondering if 'My family had 3 previous generation Peugeots, all of which were CBU France and all had numerous problems. Same with the Korean makes.', why do u still buy Peugeot and another Korean ???

Mind sharing your opinion on Mazda 3, Jetta and Focus when compared to 408NA?
BTW, way back when I was looking for a new car, Mazda 3 (1.6) was my first choice but it felt sluggish and their 2.0 variant is out of my budget.
Then I went for Elantra 1.6 HS. Felt sluggish as well. Before I could test drive their 1.8 variance, I tested 408T & NA. And the rest as they say, is history.
IMHO, Elantra is an average car. The driving experience is average, interior is average. Ok..it's exterior is quite outstanding and it's safety feature is slightly above average. But 408T and Focus have impressive safety feature with more power and price worthy.
I'm not undermining or questioning other people's decision but I'm honestly glad that I found out about the launching of 408 or else I would've bought the Elantra. Again, it's just my opinioin and needs on what is required in a car. My point here is, I could go for a car which have won the car of the year, or the bestselling car or the most reliable car but at the end of the day, I believe one should look for a car which fits their needs.
I've heard about this battery problem on Pug's car and posted about it sometime ago. Anyway, battery check is part of their checklist when doing servicing. They've done mine during the 10k service.
Sorry for the late reply but was so damn busy. First and foremost, I am a 5'10'' dude and was looking for a segment D and found them too expansive and P408 though segment C was having all the quality that I needed at an affordable price.
What do I mean? Mazda 3 , jetta and focus all is too smallish and uncomfortable to me (and I believe would too for any one the size of my built) when mostly you will get 45++mm length +17xx mm width + 14XX mm height with wheelbase of 2,6++mm
Just to zoom in on the 3 (Mazda 3, Jetta and Focus ) compared to P408, below is the score card.
length width Height W/base
mazda 3 4580 1755 1470 2640
VW Jetta 4644 1778 1482 2651
Ford Focus 4534 1824 1466 2648
P 408 4682 1815 1525 2710
I sat in A P408, and I wanted nothing else after....Just go and compare to say the cheapest segement D, Nissan Teana
at RM138k, to top range VW passat, and even Mazda 6
length width Height W/base
Nissan Teana 4850 1795 1480 2775
Passat 4769 1820 1470 2712
Mazda 6 4735 1795 1440 2725
You will find P408 is the longest segment C but shorter to all sement Ds but P408 still comes in wider than a segment D's Teana and Mazda 6 narrower to a Passat by just a mere 5 mm but lo and behold at a height of 1525, it is heigher than all segment D available i.e. including camry, mondeo, accord, k5, sonata. The wheelbase of 2710 topple all segment C rival and is very close to again segment D'sPassat and Mazda 6
I was looking for room, and boy I have found plenty of room
Then looking at the widgets...althought having no start stop button/keyless entry compare to the lowest prized segmnet D Nissan Teana, at 109,888 2.0 NA compare to 138,000 same 2.0 NA , I still get Autolight, Aoto Wiper, Auto Cruze, electric Side mirror which Teana cannot give at 138k.
Need I say more?
