Samsung choose pentile again for its flagship, it's a big cons really.

To those who didn't realised or said that it's indistinguishable with 720p display. Yes, pixel wise maybe, but pentile has this problem that you might not realise.

I have had experiences with Galaxy S, S2, GNex and Tab7.7. (have yet to stare long enough into GNote, will try next time). Pentile display tend to have this banding problem. Cause of this is unknown. My best best would be the sub-pixels are not created equal in size. Meaning if blue, each blue might not be same size to each other. Similarly to G and R pixels.

Whatever it is, the AMOLED+ display could eliminate the banding problem, or reduced it to minimal, which is barely visible.

Still wished that Samsung gone for HD AMOLED+ display. *sigh*

One X is also using polycarbonate too in case some of you are wondering and complaining about SIII's cheap plastic
*
Polycarb is just a kind of tough plastic and it's by no mean some high grade/quality stuff. I hope people don't start turning into iSheeps.

In case you all didn't realised, PC also used in making those 1.5lt, 2lt drinking bottle sold in pasar malam, claimed to be "space shuttle material", heh. From what I learned, PC is also very prone to scratches. So those with shiny surface, jaga laaa. blush.gif

Well, look at the bright side. Sammy using Corning Gorilla 2 glass now!

Then by all means, share with us, which grade of PC being used to make those phones.

Don't think both Samsung and HTC nw will use plastic bottles as their cover for flaship la laugh.gif
*
Dont be too sensitive with the term "plastic bottle". What if there's a phone that uses stainless steel. Would you feel hurt if they said your phone made with kitchen utensils or auntie-favourite-gate material? laugh.gif

PC is claimed to be the toughest plastic. It doesn't mean it sucks if it's being used in plastic bottle. Besides, it's not those RM1 mineral water bottle kind of plastic.

Whats the diff between the prev glass and Corning Gorilla 2 ? any idea ? a link would be really appreciated  whistling.gif
*
Youtube for the Corning demo video where they revealed their Gorilla 2 in MWC 2012. It's tougher than Gorilla 1, hence they can achieve the same strength with thinner glass. Overall, reducing profile and weight to the phone.

The top glass on S3 is nice, it made the home button looks like floating. biggrin.gif

Not to mention, it is design for HD displays.  thumbup.gif

If it's glass, I believe screen technology still got years ahead to catch up before they can say "the glass was the bottleneck". laugh.gif

Added on May 5, 2012, 1:33 amAny idea how does the RGB sensor works? Is it some new stuff exclusive to S3 right now?

im abit frustrated that ppl overlook s3 trendsetting of the smart stay eye tracking n wireless charging. s2 also brought few albeit minor breakthru such as the OTG n NFC among others .
*
You are quite drunk indeed. NFC was brought in from Nexus S.

As for wireless charging, I think it was an addon thing into the phone. During MWC 2012, it was demo on Galaxy S phone. Unless the wireless charging module already built-in into S3. Wait and see.

proves many people never seen or heard of this wireless charging tech. until samsung revealed it 2 days ago  sweat.gif

its nothing new seriously. existed way back to the days of palm pre
*
This wireless charging on S3 is still better as it doesn't need to dock on anything. Others *cough* iDevices *cough* required the dock to charge.

so do you mean you can put S3 anywhere in your house and it will charge by itself ?

Added on May 5, 2012, 11:18 am
It's called presentation  whistling.gif
*
Have to leave it on the charging pad. It's not called a proximity charging station yet.

Doesn't dock means you don't have to connect anything to the USB port. It's a true wireless charging. smile.gif

thats why companies invest a lot in advertising , power mat didn't thats why it is left behind with many ppl not even knowing it is out
*
Probably it's not accepted by many and cost a bomb.

There was a video made by some YouTuber on how to modify Galaxy S to enable wireless charging. So basically he stripped parts off the Palm Pre (?) and embed them into Galaxy S and use the charging station from Palm.

It just too much work cause requires soldering and it made the USB port stopped functioning properly.

Powermat doesn't require you to connect to any usb also , I believe

http://powermat.com/solutions/wicc/

*
That was the upgraded Powermat design, probably used in S3 as well.

The older generation which was introduced to Apple products requires the docking, which was not interesting at all.

So, it sucks for not having removable battery now.

I have to ask, is there any research/comparison being done?

As far as I know, S2 seems to last longer compared to S1.

I think the design is pretty, but not awesome. It's hard to have a phone with awesome design after the iphone4. (God forbids).

I especially like the floating button look alike. Can't wait to check out a unit physically. wink.gif

I doubt that.  Samsung and HTC contributes too much to Android.  Google just bought Motorola for its patents.  Heard that they're going to sell it, probably to Huawei
*
The news about Google planning (or already did) sell Motorola Mobility has been heard long ago, yet still got people talking about Google releasing their own phone and restricting Android exclusively to Motorola. doh.gif

It's a strategy by Samsung.

Whenever you are taking photos of people, they can't help but look at the speaker grill and there you go, they are looking at the camera when you say "Samsungggg". laugh.gif

Should be able to call it up by holding Home button.
