Sammy has had facial recognition in their camera software since the S1. It was also Sammy that first got Wifi Direct working on Android. Not to mention 3G video call, pinch to zoom/unzoom on camera and many more features which you don't even know existed.
I dunno how much of these actually contributed Android or the Android team just redo some of these features from ground up. This post has been edited by Harddisk: May 6 2012, 12:42 PM |

QUOTE(waveweaver @ May 6 2012, 12:43 PM) S3 new features is what they call it..forgot la. :-)) It uses the same API for facial recognition + blink detection, and do something else with the result. Make sense?Sort of the screen wont off if our face is in front of the screen. Dont know whether gonna use extra battery juice on this feature or not ~~LOL~~ Doesn't matter what it's called, but saying that Sammy took only available features from ICS and make it their own is downright wrong. Who wrote that review anyway? Should backtrack some historical records before started writing. And KuLi doesn't even provide a source link. Extra battery definitely be consumed for extra sensor used (the front camera, probably proximity as well). This post has been edited by Harddisk: May 6 2012, 01:04 PM |

QUOTE(waveweaver @ May 6 2012, 01:53 PM) Don't wait until Samsung reach its quota for S3. (around 25 millions for S2). After quota reached, Samsung start focus on mass producing its upcoming new Exynos and you'll get different type of processor. So you saying, there are only 25 million units of I9100 in the whole world? |

QUOTE(ken2291 @ May 6 2012, 11:06 PM) That probably wont' happen Not just you. I don't quite like Sense either. They changed too much of Android, especially in the settings menu and such. TW only changes the icons, placement remained the same. |

QUOTE(djlah @ May 6 2012, 11:15 PM) muahahha.. even eastern ppl will say too small nowadays, no need to ask western ppl except iSheep. I still think 4" is about the right size for me, if I'm to go diagonal. Maybe tougher on keyboard, but back then I was using Swype more, so it was really nice too.4.6"-4.8" is the best now. some said 5.x", i know Dont forget, we have menu button on top right corner in plenty of ICS apps, which ... requires extra length thumb. For my case, I hold it with my left hand more than right. So... |

QUOTE(ken2291 @ May 6 2012, 11:46 PM) Seriously, how long do you guys think this phone will run out of non-g version (assuming Samsung release g version like SII) Would the G version be using Tegra3 then? Anyway, don't worry so much first. I am sure there are enough phones for people that are interested to buy at the moment. |

QUOTE(ken2291 @ May 6 2012, 11:56 PM) Samsung has been releasing lots of models. Eventually, this delays their software updates. But I'm seeing improvements since last year. Am always getting updated Android updates unless they officially announce that they've ditched update support for a specific phone. For example, SGS is still getting Android 2.3.6 updates last month If I am not mistaken, Sammy has released the update for SGS. Forgotten what they called it, but I read in the news, about 3 weeks back. Surprise, surprise. |

QUOTE(KuLi @ May 7 2012, 12:09 AM) Well, 3G video call is obsolete. Ppl prefer Skype or FaceTime. Obviously you never tried using 2 phones with Wifi Direct. Wifi direct? It's good for home networks. QUOTE(ken2291 @ May 7 2012, 12:21 AM) WRONG!!! I'm a right handed person ROTFL.This is something all of us would've overlooked. Glad to see more and more things are pointing towards SIII's advantages!! Seriously guys, I think 8MP from S2 is more than adequate in the meantime. Anything higher means only 1 thing, bigger harddisk space. Next improvement, if possible, bigger sensor size to create those creamy bokeh, instead of relying on fake bokeh from Instagram/After Focus apps. |

QUOTE(farscope @ May 7 2012, 12:24 AM) that one will be the white balance. different sensor, n software. hence the difference in judging the white balance, which can be corrected no worries. This also tells how well is the AWB is performing on S3.the sample picture shows the sharpness between s3 and s2. which can be used as a good reference. the downside of the camera is the lens aperture at f2.6 only. but adequate for normal usage. Hope it's not a flop. Added on May 7, 2012, 1:01 am QUOTE(droid13579 @ May 7 2012, 12:29 AM) If only there's locked up if candidate failed the test. QUOTE(ken2291 @ May 7 2012, 12:26 AM) Aperture Science is where Portal gun was experime... opss, wrong topic.Aperture to a camera is what an iris to human eyes. It controls the amount of lights that reach the sensor. Smaller f/#.# numbers means bigger aperture = bigger hole. Bigger hole = nicer bokeh, bokeh with more blur/smooth background. Due to the small sensor size on camera, it won't face problems like on dSLR, where big aperture causes softness in picture, despite being in focus. Added on May 7, 2012, 1:07 am QUOTE(droid13579 @ May 7 2012, 12:38 AM) There are still few bad units with such problem. Or more toward greenish/turquoise tint. Yup, I have seen them on S2 and they are ugly.Added on May 7, 2012, 1:08 am QUOTE(ken2291 @ May 7 2012, 12:43 AM) I think you've misunderstood my previous post. I'm saying that they've improved their software updates where they still provide 2.3.6 updates to SGS (last update was April 2012). They call it Value pack, comes with some ICS features and TW4 Ya, posted already only realized I misread. So it's still not an ICS huh? Damn. Added on May 7, 2012, 1:14 am QUOTE(waveweaver @ May 7 2012, 12:51 AM) half baked ICS is the last upgrades for original Galaxy S as the phone reached it hardware limitations already. Dont know whether Galaxy S Advance can receive ICS or not. Any news or rumours about Advance.? Trust me, don't believe the kind of bullshit Sammy told you.Had CM9 Teamhacksung running on my S1. It's smooth as well and never have I had such great performance out of my phone, ever. Used it for 2 months+ and had it sold. This post has been edited by Harddisk: May 7 2012, 01:14 AM |
