Hello, I planning to buy mechanical keboard, recently too many to choose coz lot of brand ady have mecha keboard...my list now wud be filco, ducky n SS, razer? nahh go away lol...I prefer gaming spec keboard which ppl others forum suggesting black switches but i so tempting when looking at SS keyboard which they offer plated gold switches..so is it worth to buy SS (6gv2or 7gv2) or filco n ducky is far better than it?
*
Don't fall into the trap of so called "gaming" mechanical keyboard. It is basically just a mechanical keyboard with some redundant functions/specs. Infact, some of them even lack/sacrificed some of the so called "gaming" specs(Razer BW only 2KRO, Corsair K60/90 is a mix of rubber dome)...

In short, all brand should be OK, as long as it is having a good built quality.

SS, Filco and other famous mech kb OEM are having quite good and solid built quality. Though, SS isn't much popular around here because it is having limited switches/layout choices unlike other brands like Leopold/Ducky/Filco. Also, SS keyboards are somehow overpriced too.

Black switch is more famous because it is older and longer in the market. Some gamers like it's tactileless(linear) feel and fast actuation(less than 2mm). But most important is to get the type of switch which suit your typing/gaming style, so better try them out to be sure.

BTW, all Cherry MX switches are gold plated... sweat.gif

Hey, my friend will be touring uk/europe area. Any good brands of mech kb can be found there at better price/quality than those available locally?

Thanks
*
Mionix Zibal may be? It is hard/impossible to be found in Asia.
Or may be some Cherry brand keyboards too, they are much cheaper in Europe AFAIK.

Looks good, pretty pricey from amazon at 130~ pounds though..
Thanks these seem to be near the price I'm aiming for <RM400. How does it compare with Ducky G2 PBT and Leopold FC500.

Found this on amazon uk, seems to be bashing its 'average' build quality though

Cherry G80 High Quality Click Action Keyboard G80-3000LSCGB-2

Cherry branded mech kb is PCB mounted, which didn't use steel/metal plate. Thus the overall feel may be less solid. But the typing feel is still superb, and some ppl even prefer plateless mech kb over plated one as the feels are dif.

BTW, Mionix Zibal cheapest price I saw are around sub 100USD, forget from which sites/countries

Added on June 10, 2012, 2:11 amis there any keyboard using topre switch that offer cheaper price?
*
Because it is made by Cherry, the maker of the switches itself, trololol. One reason is that Cherry is a German company, thus their products are known/labeled as top notch in quality.
Ppl getting it because its quality and PCB mounting.

Nope, the only boards which used topre are Realforce and HHKB2 Pro, which are both real expensive... sweat.gif

Added on June 10, 2012, 7:46 amis it red is worth to get? coz i read, red n black switches is for gaming purpose n I do want to buy mech kb for gaming...i play a lot rts n dota games so really wanna kb that can suit well in my type of games...I do play FPS oso...
*
Those major OEMs such as Leopold, Filco and Ducky are making quite solid keyboards too. Just that the main deciding factor now is whether you want it plate mounted or PCB mounted.

The brown switch may be a good choice if you afraid you can't live with linear(without tactile) switches.

Tha is not completely accurate, the PBT 104 sets I get from KBC, the spacebar doesn't fit onto my Leopold........
and to return it, I need to pay for the postage myself. so I decided to keep it and ready to hack it to make it fit.
zzz the seller said it fit, but now he ask me to return with my own postage.
*
Seriously, Leopold's spacebar is a well-known troublemaker, LOL.

The seller either purposely want to cheat you or he doesn't even know what he is toking bout... sweat.gif

BTW, Leopold is quite not well-known in China due to the launch of Keycool ahead of it...

That is not inclusive, but my suggestion narrow down your search to make it easier.

Thanks for the info!! Sorry, didn't know that PBT + backlight don't go together (lol I thought my research "mencukupi" but apparently not). I'll probably wind up going with the PBT & sacrifice backlight as I really really hate the "shiny" look of worn keycaps.

However, with Filco keyboards I've seen a lot of ppl saying that when they wanted to replace the keys, the spacebar was a problem. Would the Leopold be more standard if I want to change keycaps?

I'm a banana so may have some trouble with taobao (unless I can bribe one of my chinese-literate pals lol), so prob not my first choice. Is there anyplace else I could look at mech keyboards locally?

Also, how's the key stability for the above boards which you recommended? E.g. Ducky uses cherry stabilizer for large keys on its keyboards, whereas Filco just uses a wire.

Do hope to hear from others!
*
Actually as mentioned b4, the BL keycaps on Deck are PBT. But it is close to extinction/not possible to land our hand on, thus it isn't really concerning us...

Filco's keycaps standard are pretty much standard. You won't face problem with most replacement keycaps.

would like to ask

any other method to pull of the key on a razer black widow expert keyboard except using the key puller?

anyone had experience in changing the LED on the keyboard?
*
For those R4(tallest) key, may be you can grip it tightly and try to pull it off vertically.

For those lower keys, apart from key puller, I think only fingernails(exceeding 1cm one) can help. Though, do note that it is easy to scratch the keys in these ways though(but BWE isn't coated, so properly won't be harmed).

Guys,
new here. Any tenkeyless mech that does NKRO on PS/2 which cost around RM150-250 ?
*
Most options need to be "import" from China(taobao).
Brands like Keycool, HPE and PLU should fit your need well.
They cost around RM160+ depend on the switches type and probably around another RM10/20 for shipping to your home.

If you still seek for local availability(for the sake of warranty?), you should go for CM Storm Quickfire Rapid, which is around RM240 in garage sale.

Buying in taobao is easy, just seek for those with most number of sales and they are probably the cheapest/best sellers, LOL...

Do I need to go through local taobao agent or can I just register and purchase then they courier to me?
sorry this seems like out of topic or shall I pm you smile.gif (if you dont mind)

Thanks!
*
Erm, you still need an agent. Go search around in services sub-forum, there are plenty of them.

Some discussion is ok, as long as it is not too lengthy or directly promoting of sales.

Ducky indeed just manufacture Mks. Meanwhile Zowie has more choices.

I thought Malaysia used to have(or now still have, unsure) Zowie distributor, but the stopped as the response isn't too good.

If want to carry "gaming brand", I will go for Mionix instead, a counterpart for Razer which also made bling bling gaming devices(bling bling = easier sale), LOL...

help me choose a mechanical keyboard..this wiil be my 1st mech keyboard..i might prefer brown switch cause will be doing some typing (reports, coding) and also gaming(bf3, dota 2 etc)..

right now im looking at filco & ducky keyboard..do suggest me other brand & switches that might be suitble for me..

btw prefer backlit cause will do work mostly in the dark..
*
Backlit + brown switch pretty much limited your choice to only Razer BWU Stealth(not available locally) and Ducky Shining.

I will suggest you go for Ducky as its built quality probably better than BWU and also having a cleaner look + standard layout.

agree rubber will not last overtime and they quite fragile too unless there r sophisticated technology were invented inside the rubber..so bout the buckling spring, did its quality can be compare to cherrys? Ya no argueable bout the rubber itself coz its good to be true, sure will dead someday, yet i need to rethinks again n again  doh.gif

Arguably, BS > Cherry MX in term of durability/wear resistant.

Cherry MX switch still have some plastic parts and those plastic contact parts are subjected to wear as time and usage increase(but need not be too worry as it is still perfectly functional even with those wear, and it took a long time to cause a significant wear).

BS on the other hand is handled by the spring itself, thus the durability is close to unmatched.

To get best of both worlds, why not get both BS and also Topre? like what epicguru does, LOL.

2kbs aren't too much consider average of us here having at least 2-3kbs. Those collectors may have even more. biggrin.gif
