I'm helping out someone that needs to set up a cyber cafe soon (next month actually)

The idea is:

- There will be 20 PCs. 10 will be for normal web surfing use, other 10 will be for gaming.
- Gaming PC should be good enough to run current games (DOTA 2, Counter Strike, Team Fortress 2).
- Normal PC should be good enough to run facebook (and its games), youtube, Open Office.
- Will use something like iFriendster Cafe client.
- Will use hard disk.
- Monitor will be around 19 to 20 inch.
- May upgrade to Windows 8 in 2-3 years.

Anyone can give a proposal?

CPU
RAM
Motherboard
Graphic Card (if possible, reliable brand)
PSU
Keyboard & mouse brand

Hopefully will not be too expensive, and graphic cards that supports DX10 or above.

Thanks all.

Budget is the key, and for current games should change from (DOTA 2, Counter Strike, Team Fortress 2) to Diablo 3(soon), Battlefield and etc

Not sure the budget, but if possible I think the computer may use a Nvidia 550gt, and at least Core i3.

if i may add, a few seller seems to be offering i3 2120 @ same price as i3 2100, so imho, better opt for the i3 2120 for its 200MHz faster clock
i3 2100 = 3.1GHz
i3 2120 = 3.3GHz

and this is just my opinion, but even for surfing station, i think better get a 4GB ram instead of saving RM28 for a 2GB.

as for keyboard/mouse, i would suggest Microsoft Desktop 600 (~RM50) or Logitech Classic Desktop MK100 (~RM36).
BOTH model features spill-resistant keyboards thumbup.gif

and, dear TS, you might want to check this similar thread too for reference of suggested specs.
it just a few days old blush.gif

I saw that thread but I did not want to hijack his thread. For normal web surfing the Radeon ok but I would prefer Nvidia for gaming. 550 ok right?

Overall, the HD 6790 is a little faster though. But there's a seller here that is selling Palit GTX 550 Ti from as low as RM329, so you can definitely consider that.

550TI is good alternative for 6790, imo, seeing as it uses less power nod.gif and they're in the same-class performance, iirc (well, more or less tongue.gif)
And, less power usually means lower casing/rig temp. lower rig temp x 10 rigs = lower air-cond power consumption. every little bit helps in long term

I would go for Nvidia because I believe it offers better compatibility with older games. I had issues before using ATI card when playing games like Metal Gear Solid 2.

well, if you're going to be the one maintaining (are you not?) the systems, so lesser headache for you the better.

I already submit the proposed specs. Monitor will not be an issue as he already get a different brand. Hopefully the specs will last a good 4-5 years.

4-5 years.... IMHO better be prepared for an upgrade of the GPU in 3 years to come, dunno what are the requirements during that time

Well this is cybercafe so GPU lifespan can be stretched a bit longer by lowering resolution or reducing effects. But see la if business is good then may have money to invest with the upgrade.

i don't think all 20 can survive that long, tbh smile.gif. and PSU usually be the most to "went silent", motherboard follows, and hdd next doh.gif

Another question.

I need to set up a computer that holds the games content (game server I guess). So all client PC will be link to this game server. It will run Core i5, can handle about 20 PCs.

What Asus motherboard model would be good for this job?

from what i understand, not all game can be run from the server. based on info from previous thread, what's more important you will need is
-an array of RAID hdd setup in the server
-more than one server is recommended
-high quality network setup (gigabit switch, CAT6 wiring)

although to answer the question of which ASUS model, i'd say P8Z77-M will be good. since you might be needing the PCI-e for RAID card such as this

how about to lessen cost you just remove the 6570 and use 19 inch monitor instead of 20 inch
its just for web surfing right? brows.gif

then for the gaming pc how about going for a much cheaper g860? brows.gif

I have check how one cyber cafe set up running with 2 servers (one billing, one gaming). The billing uses normal PC specs (considered low end PC), while the gaming runs slightly high end (C2D, 3 HDD but no RAID although uses WD Black Edition). Even the network was running on Cat6 cable but uses 100FastEthernet switch.

I was told to set up a cyber cafe similar to this one, this why I came up with specs (slightly higher specs but does not cost too much). To go for RAID, Xeon, would be a bit too much since of the 20 PCs, 10 will actually be used for gaming while the other 10 for web surfing.

Anyway thank for the feedback. It will be my first attempt to set up a cyber cafe. If I learn enough from this then I may have to set up another one in future, probably with better specs so I'll see how it goes for this one.

at least use a gigabit switch if you're planning on file sharing. iirc a 24-port gigabit D-link would cost around rm400. with a 100Mbps switch, the data transfer speed would only be around 11-15MB/s. but with a gigabit, you would easily get 50MB/s.

so 1GB file on 100Mbps = ~1 minutes 20 seconds
1GB on 1000Mbps = ~25 seconds
(i timed a file transfer on my own home network, so maybe a bit slower than expected)

btw, you dont need Xeon, but at least set-up a RAID with the onboard sata is recommended. the PCI-e card is just a possibilities that i mention to highlight the features/usage of P8Z77-M

To the topic starter, don't make the specs different. Just put the graphic card or withOUT graphic card. that's all. Make sure you buy all the same things, maybe in future you are going to upgrade your cybercafe. Diskless, game server, etc. Think about future.. I believe your internet PC's won't have any trouble if don't have gpu installed on it. or you might replace em with HD5450 which cost your below RM 100 per unit. smile.gif

Just my 2 cents.

I am a cybercafe operator and currently maintaining 2 cybers at Kedah.
