My sis is using 5.1. So kesian la have to endure tethered jb.

mine is 4s under ios 5.1...cant get it jailbreak till now..and i tried to find the 5.1.1 ipsw..but cant..heard that apple stop issuing it now ..anybody can help me get the 5.1.1 ipsw? Really appeeciate it

You need the shsh then you can jb to the desired ios right? Check you cydia. Just open it, and see at the main page, what version are saved.

Got a query - nothing to do with JB but since it seems there's more 'techie' gents here in this thread, I would ask here.

Initially I have a white iphone. I did a full backup with itunes and then trade in the phone with another forummer for a black set
(what do do, i like the black/slate too much once I have my Mini)

Then when I try to restore the black iphone (used) set with my itunes backup, only certain setups like setting, contacts etc. can be restore.
The apps can't sync. The sync progress will just run for awhile then stop, no error.

I had to do a full factory restore (to 6.0.2) then only can sync all my old apps.

So question, we can't restore a used set with our own itunes backup? Only way is to restore to factory default?

If you jailbreak now, even tethered, you will get shsh for 6.0.1 automatically. So when the jb is available, you can update and jb la

The IPSW can be downloaded no problem from a lot of places (I recommend you download it from iClarified).

Use TinyUmbrella to check if Cydia has saved your 5.1.1 SHSH (your iPhone 4s does not need to be jailbroken to use TU)

I did try from iclarified and from few places..but it's all link to same download link..I unzipped the Ipsw but non of it have the 5.1.1 pls advice me bro I really appreciate it

There is no need to unzip the file. Some browser usually attached a .zip extension to the file but in actual fact, it should be just xxx.ipsw, if you see something with xxx.ipsw.zip, then just rename the file to .ipsw or try using Firefox browser to download the file.

3 days 3 nights i struggling with my ios 5.1 4s..
I managed to get the 5.1.1 ipsw..tried to restore by itune but itune stop signing that ipsw..
i tried ifaith to downgrade...but unfortunately it doesnt support 4s..
i tried redsnow to stitch my save shsh by tinyumbrella..but not supported..
looks like my 4s stuck in ios 5.1 forever!

What SHSH do you have by the way? What did TU say? Make sure when you run TU, to have it ask for SHSH from Cydia. If you have 5.1.1 SHSH saved in Cydia somewhere, you should be able to upgrade to 5.1.1 using the SHSH.

i try 5.0.1 now...hope it will works

ok i used tinyumbrella request shsh from cydia
Tinyumbrella said that i have 3 versions of shsh
5.0.1.shsh (9A405)
5.0.1b.shsh (9A405)
6.0.1.shsh (9A406)
It was saved in my pc under .shsh folder

1.) i used ifaith to blobs the 5.0.1.shsh but it said "shsh provided not supported" - ifaith doesnt support 4s

2) so i used redsnow to stitch the ipsw(downloaded from iclarified) and it said ipsw currently not available

3)i used itune and try to manually restore 5.0.1 ipsw(by pressing shift) it said apple doest support that ipsw anymore - apple stop signing 5.0.1 ipsw

4) pls help me

I don't remember if 5.0.1 can be jailbroken for the 4s. I would suggest you wait for the 6.1 iOS as Pod2G has confirmed that Evad3rs has confirmed that they have jailbroken that version. Should not be long now.

But if you do want to jailbreak, just download the 5.0.1 iPSW from iClarified and then downgrade (there should be a link in post #2 on how to downgrade) and then use Absinthe to jailbreak 5.0.1

Follow this link to downgrade (this is exactly your situation, from 5.1 to 5.0.1)
