is she 100% on board with this?

I tried getting some of my girlfriends to lift with me, they all takut jadi hulk. Showed them jamie eason and some other fitness models to convince them otherwise but they said "eeeeyerrr... so muscular like man".

If she still needs convincing show her crissfit.tumblr.com - her after photos is awessssome! and plus this kind of result is more achievable for us girls anyway than a fitness model physique.

You don't need glove, but learn how to hold the bar. This apply for both male & female, my palm is still silky smooth (ok, I exaggerated) & I can squat 100KG & deadlift 106KG @78kg. Read this, how to avoid Calluses (i.e. rough hand)

Assume your gf wants to be "stronger" but more towards good look, keep in mind that girl don't gets "bulk up" as fast as male due to 1/10th of testosterone hormone production compared to male (the bulk woman you see in bodybuilding competition mostly are unnatural, "steroided").

BUT lifting heavy still train our CNS (central nervous system) to recruit more muscle usage, i.e. difference between a weak untrained male at 70kg compare to 70kg olympic weightlifter is not only muscle, but also CNS ability to recruit more muscle at a given short amount of time frame.

Keep in mind small weight won't help in both strength or, do you see your mom who can deadlift (I mean carry) tons of grocery & grow bulk? So don't do stupid 5lbs bicep curl. Focus on Posterior Chain (lower back, butt & legg, as they are part of the biggest muscle in our body & quite unnoticeable), therefore learn low bar squat & dead lift, read the book "Starting Strength" by Mark Rippetoe (*cough* piratebay *cought*) for technique which is very important to learn the correct way plus avoid injury.

Lastly, look at their body in links below, smallish arm, bigger butt & legs, & still stronger than I am, not to mention lower weight :/

Stacii

TL;DR: Just get her started with low bar squat & dead lift & read Starting Strength

ahaha and when i was telling them something that happened at the gym while I was putting back 10kg plates, they were like "OMG you can lift 10kg!!!!! You're so strong"... doh.gif anyway, girls tend to underestimate their strength so push ur girl to try to lift more than what she thinks she can.

and getting gloves made me kinda semangat to start lifting so it kinda helps. made me perasan pro.

anyway all of the above models would still be considered too bulky for them, some girls just want to look like those skinny korean pop stars.

I started in late 2010 a bit of strength training to help strengthen my back muscles. Then in late 2011, I started Body Pump classes once I could squat 10 kg. I also just hang freely like a monkey to help to stretch my back and the back muscles : 15-20 secs usually.

No gloves because I found that it hurt worst with the gloves than without it. Plus, my hands were small so it's hard to find small gloves in Sarawak for ladies. Hand is still soft and I have a small thin row of calluses where Mark Rippertoe showed earlier on in the video above. It's not so obvious and I do push ups at an incline still, holding onto a rough bar. I did have my skin flake out for a short period of time but the new skin was tougher.

Hands would still be soft from weight lifting. The skin surface only becomes hard if your GF does a lot of cleaning activities involving detergents and soaps. Those will dry the skin fast.

Getting a good moisturizer that is affordable is hard. I tend to lend these days to organic sources because less processed stuff. The cheapest I found in Malaysia is a brand called Esmeria. A really really good one is from Juice Beauty, a German brand called Lavera because it's petroleum-free which is extremely hard to find but they are pricey. L'Occitane handcreams doesn't soften the hand and my skin doesn't absorb it well unlike Crabtree & Evelyn which was a lot better. Only problem with Crabtree & Evelyn was that it wasn't organic sources.

I do notice one thing about the skins on my palm. If I don't eat a lot of white carbs, the skin is not as plump and the skin is dryer. Once I eat white carbs, skin is healthy and not dry.
