TEMPLAR ASSAULT (WARHAMMER 40k SPACE HULK FOR ANDROID)

Attached Image Attached Image Attached Image Attached Image

Blogger's Comments

FOR THE EMPEROR! I mean, for the House of Thulun! Fans of Warhammer 40k will instantly fall in love with the adaptation and IMPROVEMENT to Warhammer 40k's Space Hulk. The gameplay is similar, with you being in charge of a squad of elite genetically superior advanced armoured warriors. Using chainswords, powerfists, and more modern guns, you have to battle your way through unlimited spawning hordes or chittering alien scum in order to achieve certain objectives. You only have limited ammo, so don't tarry and take your time as you'll soon find yourself resorting to your trusty power sword to cut a swathe through your enemies. Any men you lose in a mission stays dead. A campaign may have several missions, and if you lose a man, that man remains dead. The game has a lot of strategy in it as you fight to cover the flanks and making sure you don't get surrounded. But Trese Brothers (the devs) have put an RPG spin on it as well! Your brother captain and his warriors can level up and concentrate on specific skills. Additionally you can buy new equipment and armor for your brother warriors.

A must have for Space Hulk fans, fans of grueling turn based strategy will also want to give this a try. There is a free version in addition to the paid version.

The game is (even at this advanced stage) considered beta by the developers, so you can expect massive updates coming your way.

You just can't take this game seriously. But then you were never meant to. With foul language and l33t speech and hilarious character conversations, giving this game a go is a no brainer, particularly since its FREE! I do have some issues with the gameplay. First off, It's not really a tactical TBS game. It really isn't. Sure, you move characters across squares, take turns, but this phase does absolutely nothing in terms of strategy. There is no terrain bonus. There is no directional facing. Nothing. It would appear that this it is merely used to facilitate the narrative storyline. When you attack or get attacked, then some strategic elements appear. You get to organise formation of your troops, give them orders, ask them to flank etc, and then you click "execute" and pray your strategy works. You get to purchase items in between maps to enhance the capabilities of some of your units. There is no recruiting here, all characters are handed to you. The entire concept holds promise. But unfortunately fall just short. When you have a game with non too spectatcular graphics, you really need to have awesome gameplay to make up for it. I'd like to see the Dev take this game concept and really pour more heart and soul into the gameplay, and maybe polish up the graphics a bit. The crazy trash talking and humour narratives are nice, but when you want to stand out from competition, it just isn't enough. None the less, the game is 'okay'. And since its free, there really is no harm trying it out.

They are quite a few RPG games out there on playstore, especially the current favourite Zenonia 4. However one would hardly call it Diablo-esque. While Diablo itself is also an action RPG game, it just isn't quite the same when translated into anime-like fast hack and slash. Bring in Legends Arcana, a dungeon crawler that is significantly slower paced than most rpg dungeon crawlers out there. Graphics are simple, while not anime like, certainly colourful. There is no mana, and HP refills itself automatically. Skills and stats points are allocated as you wish when you level up, and skills have cool down periods instead of using mana. There are also item drops and shops where you can buy and sell items. It also has pretty well coloured comic style cut scenes that are pretty well scripted too.

If there is anything that irked me was the lack of "umph" factor when attacking enemies. What is this umph factor? Well, there needs to be some sort of satisfaction when killing enemies. And it all comes down to appropriate sound effects. Games can still have sound effects but if not done properly, merely give u that meh feeling when killing mobs. While well done sound effects gets your blood pumping, adrenaline flowing, and a greater desire to shed more blood!

Additionally movement is intentionally made slow and jerky. Sorta like watching a frame by frame movement. This, you'll either love it or hate.

The game has a paid and free verson, and according to the descriptions, the free version has ads. However being on a custom rom, perhaps due to some ad blocker, i saw no such ads. Or perhaps the dev have totally removed the ads. Not too sure. But since there is a free version, definitely give this game a shot. If you hate it, uninstall, if you love it, play it, if you love it but hate the ads, buy the devs a cup of coffee (actually a cup of coffee is more expensive than this lol) and buy the game!

Happy dungeon crawling!

BATTLE FOR WESNOTH

Attached Image Attached Image Attached Image Attached Image

Blogger's Comments

With all the rave surrounding the apple and now android game Great Little War Game, which is a turn based strategy game, I just couldn't understand how Wesnoth flew under the radar. Don't get me wrong, I played the game on the iphone when i had it, and GLWG was an OKAY game. It had nice 3D graphics, but i felt it lacked the maturity of other games that were in the market. Just as I was scratching my head wondering how the hell did people miss Wesnoth, a comment in Android playstore revealed everything. "I dont like the fact that i have to rate the game to get a standard grenadier unit. I Paid for this game. I shouldn't be forced to do things to get full functionality".

Ah i see, forced ratings and advertising.

Oh well, back to Wesnoth, Wesnoth is actually a ported PC game to both Android and the Apple system. It has insane depth and strategy, and makes games like GLWG childish and more attrition based in comparison. Wesnoth has an insane amount of unit types due to several factions, and each faction has several types of units. And i mean really distinct units, not mirror units with different graphics.

Terrain plays an important role in your strategy, like Elves are harder to hit in the forests while Cavalry get bonuses in the plains.

Your units can level up as they kill enemy units as well, and when they do they even have specific jobs that they can specialise in, each giving new abilities and attack strengths.

It has a great skirmish mode, exceptional AI, multiplayer, and wonderful campaign mode that will keep you entertained for days. The only con i can think of is the text can be a little small and hard to see on the handphone device, though it has no such issues on tablets.

In a nutshell :

SEVERAL FACTIONS

Each Faction has several DISTINCT units. NO MIRROR UNITS.

Each unit can level up, and have different job trees for u to choose and specialise.

Terrain plays an important strategic role and can win/lose you the game

Great AI

Great skirmish mode

Multiplayer

Great campaign with good storyline and script writing

A MUST HAVE FOR ALL turn based strategy fans.

Do yourself a favour and get this game. A wonderfully underrated strategy game

SAS : ZOMBIE ASSAULT 3

So, back to game reviews. Now this gem has just been spotted hiding among Google Playstore's trending and is worth bringing to light! Its basically a top down version of Call Of Duty Zombies. Its TOTALLY FREE and supports multiplayer as well. Multiplayer matching is automatic so you dont need friends (foreveralone.jpg). I do suggest they update the graphics a little, as it is a lttle hard to distinguish zombies from the normal terrain. Also tweak the gameplay to give the guns more UMPH factor. UMPH factors are incredibly important, it makes it satisfying to squeeze the trigger. Now the game is just aiming the sights at the zombie and listening to the annoying repetitive gunfire sounds. Still, it IS free, and has plenty of room for improvement.

For the features, I'll let the game dev speak for themselves:

Single player! Play co-op multiplayer at any time with super-easy matchmaking geared to your level. Huge fun to jump into a game at the same time with friends, and doesn't matter what device you have - Android and iOS users can seamlessly play together.
Based on the ground-breaking flash game by Ninja Kiwi, but completely rebuilt and optimized for Android, SAS 3 has been battle hardened by millions of plays and undergone extensive tuning and balancing to create the best action shooter available on the Play Market!
Killer Features:
★ Intense zombie-blasting action shooter gameplay!
★ Eviscerate the zombie hordes in single player or in 4 player co-op multiplayer
★ 40 Ranks to unlock, each granting access to a new weapon or perk
★ 37 devastating weapons like Auto Shotguns, Browning Machine Guns, Flamethrowers, and RPGs
★ 2 Sentry gun classes and 3 grenade types for serious room clearing
★ 5 challenging maps, each with very different hazards and kill zones
★ 9 relentless zombie types, with graphics that support hundreds on screen
★ Multiplayer play from any connected Android device - play anywhere in the world, whether on Andrid or iOS de
vice.

THEME HOSPITAL

Attached Image Attached Image Attached Image Attached Image

BLOGGER'S COMMENTS

All i can say is OMFG when someone ported this to android. One of the best games from Bullfrog (a now extinct company) besides Dungeon Keeper, Theme Hospital was THE best PC game in terms of simulation for the PC back in the 90s. When this game port for android launched recently for a meager 1.99 USD i just had to check it out. Ive seen several ports or attempted ports gone bad that has horrible implementation. I'm so glad that these guys got it right! A PC game, on your mobile, you can't go wrong with that. Get this game. If you like kairosoft especially with their sim games, this game takes it to a whole new level. Much more depth. So much win.

POPULUS ROMANUS

Attached Image Attached Image Attached Image Attached Image

A fairly decent strategy game that comes with a nice cheap price tag. The units may not be historically correct, for example the roman legions did not exist until after the Marius Reforms, which was way after the scenario depicted in this game. Nonetheless its a pretty fun game, if not graphically impressive. A mixture of luck (hit chance) and strategy, the game relies heavily on troop positioning to win the game, by flanking the enemy to get that much needed combat advantage bonus.

Here's to hoping for a campaign and unit editor. There is much potential in this Already a fun game at a decent price tag, the dev perhaps need to do a little more homework and perhaps add some additional variety to the units to fit the scenario, rather than the other way around, making the scenario fit the units already available. Strategy fans ought to give this a go. But if u want something deeper, see Wesnoth, which was reviewed a while back.

BATTLE GROUP

Blogger's Comments

You know, there are the games that are worth honourable mention in this blog. And then there are games that should really just be in the top 5 list in android playstore but just arent. THIS is one of those games! Tapping frenzy doesnt get much more adrenaline pumping and action packed than this. A truly remarkable gameplay experience, the game puts you in charge of up to two ships, your flagship and one escort. You can choose these ships which to fit your gameplay strategy. Each ship has different abilities.

Enough of technicalities and lets move on to gameplay. The game progresses where your ships start to move, and enemy ships, planes, dive bombers, torpedoes, missiles, land fortresses, tanks, turrets, you name it, the game throws it to you as an enemy. You have to destroy these bad guys and their bullets by shooting at em. Adapting the old ATARI style missle defence, tapping on the screen launches rockets at the area, and when it explodes it deals damage. So you'll have to be quick and time your shots taking into account your missile travel time and the enemy ship's movements and such.

But there's more! Your ships may have some awesome secondary weapons as well, which are activated by dragging from your ship outwards. For example you can set the arc of your close range anti air defence which is automated, or command your escort to fire several rounds of extremely damaging cannon fire at a tight arc.

Combined with wonderful voice acting and sound effects such as the random, chaotic sounds of planes, ships, and men screaming and dying in their death throes as their jetplanes splinter apart from your barrage of firepower, this game deserves 5/5 stars in every department!

Whether you're looking for a quick 5 minute thrill or are an action gaming fan, this game is a MUST have.

There's a free arcade version available i have not tried, but presumably perhaps is an arcade wave version of the paid campaign version this review is based off.

dead trigger shud have been free in the first place. i bought the game and found it repetitive, with nothing ingenious. Just buy a shotgun and u literally OWN the entire game. easy game, no challenge, no variety of missions.

so yea the in app purchases were there even while it was a paid game. see the reviews people complaining. thats probably why they made it free cuz it shud be free if they wanna adopt freemium model.
