QUOTE(ray123 @ Apr 12 2012, 10:44 PM)
Why else do you think the Opposition had gained so much support from its perennial loser status before Anwar? Lies cannot sustain a political movement, forgeries cannot remain hidden. A false cause is insufficient for long lasting change. You seem to think Opposition supporters suffer from some sort of pure denial of BN but as a BN voter who switched I can honestly tell you I just don't see any good for the country if the status quo remains the same.

Besides, not all of us are mere politically motivated. I don't care who is in charge of the country as long as he (or she!) fixes our long standing problems like our slipping education standards, brain drain due to preferential treatment, imbalanced development between the peninsular and the East, brainwashing institutions like BTN, increased household debt, bloated civil service, our slowly disappearing competitive edge over other ASEAN countries etc etc etc. All these problems are not "recent". They did not just happen overnight or within the past few years.

All these things were legacies from Mahathir during his 22-year tenure. Badawi couldn't solve it. Najib isn't doing anything different from his two predecessors. My father was secretary to the PM's department and he too sees no changes despite brandings of KPI, NKRA, ETP and GTP. Except from the fact his old department went from 4000-odd people under Mahathir to 45,000 under Najib.

I'm sorry but you lost me there, seems you have a mistake somewhere between Selangor government and state government. I can't tell if you're referring to pre-Opposition Selangor era or the current situation today.
*
That's because that's what PR supporters are. They are chauvinists being pretentiously objective.

That's also the same argument used by all supporters. I can say the same excuse for my reason to support BN. BN have been addressing all those problems. For instance, brain drain, the government launched a corp to bring back those talents who left the country. Household debts? How is this the government's fault? People are spending lavishly above their means, and the blame goes to the federal government. Are you serious? Bloated civil service? Not really. We've got many government departments and they are all there to serve the Rakyat.

Mahathir is the most visionary leader we've had. For you to make a statement like that indicates that you're just ungrateful for all the things we accomplished during those years.

I was referring to the present Selangor state government. I should have made it clear and easy for you to understand. smile.gif

remember Penangites, who tells the story of Jelutong roads that were never repaired with major potholes, during BN control. Cos Jelutong was DAP stronghold.

I don't know if u are really from Penang, but jelutong road has been repaired upgraded countless times. For a long time it was the shortest and fastest way from tanjung to south of the island.

Heard from Penangites, as it was an obvious experience, when an out-station person drives thru there.
Nevermind, let a real PG (like junsheng) to confirm this.

Every 3 taxpayers supports 2 civil servants in Malaysia
“The highest ratio of civil servants in the world”!
Most bloated civil service

* With 1.3 million civil servants to a population of 26 million, Malaysia has one of the highest civil servants-to-population ratio in the world by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development standards.
* In 2009, Malaysia’s civil servants-to-population ratio was the highest in Asia Pacific. The ratio was 4.68 per cent, compared to Singapore’s 1.5 per cent, Indonesia’s 1.79 per cent, Korea’s 1.85 per cent and Thailand’s 2.06 per cent all of which have less than half our ratio.

Subject: Civil Servants in Malaysia…Alarming Figures
1. Number of civil servants in Malaysia
2000 - 894,788
2008 - 1.2M
2011 - 1.3M+
During 2000 to 2008, increase of 300,000 or each year 38,151 or each day 104.
2 . Money spent on salary / remuneration
2005 - RM25.6Billion
2008 - RM41.0Billion (or from each tax payer RM22,800)
An increase of a whopping 60% during 3 years only. If it is private company, sure “bungkus”!
3. Population that pays tax 1.8M
Number of civil servants 1.2M
Meaning every 1.5 tax payer support 1 civil servant.

We know, we know. Salah Badawi.

"Ungrateful"? What do you know about it? You speak as if he is some sort of Great Leader and that we're blessed to have him? This is the difference between us: You speak as if his accomplishments were "gifts" to us Malaysians. I see them as him doing his duty as a national leader. Nothing more, nothing less. I dare say ANY leader who could take over Malaysia when we were ahead of South Korea and Taiwan could have done what he did, and maybe even more. He didn't even do it all above board either, like how he handled the great tin market scandal (which he personally admitted to).

I'll stop here because I don't want to derail the thread any further. Suffice to say we see things differently: you think we should be beholden to the past whereas I'm more concerned about the future.

So? I don't care. So long as their service is good while efficiency is good, I'm happy.

The problem is, Malaysians are not productive in general. Therefore, the government, just like most private companies need to hire more employees to compensate for the losses incurred due to the low productivity rate. That's why its more beneficial for companies to hire cheap foreign labour.

I'm sorry that you can't appreciate the development brought by Mahathir. He could have always chosen to take Zimbabwe's path or Greece's path. Instead he did it his own way. Therefore, we as Malaysians must be thankful for that. smile.gif

Did you just accused the civil service (78.2% Malay) as being not productive?

https://rightways.wordpress.com/2011/10/19/...he-delinguents/
Best contradiction of 1Malaysia

* As at 31 December 2009, the racial breakdown of the Malaysian civil service comprising 1,247,894 employees was as follows: Malay (78.2 per cent); Other Bumiputras (7.7 per cent); Chinese (5.8 per cent), Indian (4.0 per cent); and Others (4.2 per cent).

* “This is the worst multi-racial composition of the government service, with the lowest Chinese and Indian representation in the public service in Malaysia’s 53-year history. This is clearly seen from the three sets of comparative figures of the racial breakdown of the civil service before the NEP (1971) and as compared to Dec. 2009 – Malays (60.80 per cent and 78.2 per cent); Chinese (20.2% and 5.8 per cent); Indians (17.4 per cent and 4.0 per cent); and Others (1.6 per cent and 4.2 per cent).

On topic, maybe Penang Airport needs a SMART tunnel?

lol wut?

Private companies fire when productivity rate is low. It's called lay off.
It's an idiotic move to hire more people when your worker are already lazy.

We have the highest ratio of civil servants in the world. That includes China and & India & US.

No.

You just stated that their service is good and efficiency is good.

Then you say they have to hire more people because their current worker is low in productivity.

You were referring to the government, specifically.
