Good post!!

I think it's good that the Liverpool owners are showing their ruthlessness. I think so far, Damien Comolli, Peter Bruckner (doctor) are leaving and rumours that John Achterburg (goalkeeping coach) is also set to leave.

There's also a rumour that Johan Cruyff has agreed a deal in principle but that remains to be seen.

I think Chelsea has a bigger rebuilding process than Liverpool because their squad at the moment relies heavily on their older players - Drogba, Lampard, Terry, Cole, Malouda and such. Even Torres is 28 and you hardly see Chelsea having youngsters in their team. I've only heard of Ryan Berthrand, Josh McEachran and Romelu Lukaku but all three are hardly playing or have hardly impressed me. To replace their older players, they've got to spend tons of money on players in the future.

I do hope you're right about Liverpool coming back because the process of rebuilding won't happen in a season! The league has been absolutely disastrous but at least Liverpool have won the League Cup and are in the FA Cup semi-final and it can still be a successful season.

Come to think of it, what if it was Arsenal in Liverpool's shoes? If you look at it, Arsenal have been showing good performance this season (overall). Its safe to say many fans of Gunners around the world are happy or atleast content with our present situation. UCL spot is almost secure, very minimal injuries among our players, our home grown players are maturing, our captain fantastic a potential Golden Boot winner, quality signings, playing top of our games with positive dressing room vibes and a brighter (less debt) future next season. In a nutshell, we've done good.

But.....still 7 years without a cup.

Liverpool on the other hand, have won the Carling Cup, with the FA cup a bright prospect for them this season. Unfortunately though, their current form is appalling in the league despite buying top players last season and the return of KD at Anfield.

Years from now, people will talk about Liverpool winning the double (carling and FA) despite the slump in form, and Arsenal won't be mentioned in the same breath as Liverpool regardless of how we performed. Perhaps the only worthy news mentioning is that of the return of King Henry to the Emirates.

So here's the £35 million question: who is the better team this season between Arsenal and Liverpool? icon_idea.gif

Since the time Arsenal has to build Emirates from their own sustainable income sources, the CL money (top4 finish) is more important than Carling Cup or FA Cup. Iirc, winning Carling Cup comes with a reward of 750K pounds, which pays probably a week's wages for big clubs. Prize money like those figures won't do much for reducing loan interest, unlike CL money.

Monies available and CL exposure attracts talents. Regardless if nowadays loyalty gets how much mileage, bigger pool of talents to chose from is always good.

Probably whoever have a better season is decided by the club owners at a tea party banter. smile.gif

yes yossi...for rotation

1. podolski if he comes if not Ba
2. hazard
3. m'villa
4. a quality left back
those earlier bought...to be loan or sold.
*
1. podolski should come, he will come to replace van persie in 2-3 years. van persie is 29 this year and 30 next.
2. hazard comes then where gervinho, arshavin and miyaichi play? gervinho is our current prospect who got work rates, speed and techniques. arshavin as back up for gervinho and miyaichi as our future prospect. hazard in means it affects the left forward system unless he plays in middle beside wilshere and song which is kinda wasted coz he is a good forward.
4. we have already got santos and Gibbs. Santos as current LB and Gibbs as back up or future prospect. A team don't really need too many LB imo. Just 2 RB and 2 LB... (though we are the only team who will lost both RB and LB in injury doh.gif)

if anyone from liv, i would love kuyt.
*
Only if his role is like Yossi's this season. Bench player most of the time, but dependable whenever called upon.
Other that Kuyt, I wouldn't have any of Liverpool's players.

Chelsea on the other hand, has quite a few good ones that could strengthen us but I doubt they'll sell to us.

QUOTE(Quick` @ Apr 13 2012, 03:43 PM)
i hope we can sign benayoun on a permanent basis, say 5m
sounds like a decent deal to me
*
Yossi's gonna think about it at the end of the season, although he has already said in the past that he would consider moving to a smaller team if it meant more first team opportunities which is something we cannot guarantee.

There's also our side to consider about; whether le Boss is willing to use Yossi in the place of the upcoming youngsters such as Ryo, Ox, or the central players such as Frimpong, Coq, Ramsey, Jack, even Diaby.

Erm... winning the Carling Cup doesn't mean much in terms of honours anyway. Has anyone really talked about how Birmingham won the Carling Cup last year? The FA is also worth less than CL qualifications, realistically speaking.

So no, I wouldn't trade our CL qualifications (yes, we haven't fully secured that just yet) for Liverpool's Carling Cup trophy or their potential double.

And which is the better team this season? The league is the bread and butter, so as long as we finish above Liverpool we are the better team.

since now this season is coming to an end, which transfer do you guys think is the best for arsenal?

Best buy? Mikel arteta. Nuff said.

Best comeback story? Rosicky!! There is no other that has taken sticks n stones from fans n others. .. Maybe diaby... But rosicky proved that he is quality.

R we a better team without cf4? i believe so. Without cesc, took us a bit of time to gel but i believe our midfield is probably the best in the league now. Can u imagine when jack is back?

Looking at next season with ryo coming back... Podolski coming.. N hopefully we clear yhe deadwood in the team... Jack coming back from injury... Fuhhhhh

Someone posted a good link in Liverpool's thread.
http://www.uefa.com/uefa/management/financ...id=1661038.html

By participating in group stage alone, Arsenal oledi raked around 20mil. Total Arsenal earn close to 30mil by just Last 16 alone.
Even some minor clubs failed to progress to last 16 can earn around 10mil+
And both Manu and barca earn 50mil+ each to be in final.

Totally nuff said for CL > FA > CC

yeps... that's why we need to finish 4th or better and be in UCL every year. It's true that we can do without UCL with our current business model but it wont keep the fans happy though.

2 years ago I said I'd give AW til 2013 to properly setup this team. Seems like we're heading in the right direction.

now i'm gonna say this, with the right addition and also keeping this core team together til 2014, I reckon AW will leave Arsenal in 2014.... going out on top... probably EPL champ + FA cup and possibly UCL.

We should all be grateful that AW did not abandon ship when the going was horribly tough for the old man.
Yea hopefully by 2014, Arsenal will be the new ucl champion and I think by then AW can retire happily.
I'm definitely looking forward to the day when Arsenal will sapu all the trophies! wub.gif

Interesting article.

Looks like we haven't been the best team IN London for a long time, but if the table stay as it is by the end of the season, we can say that we're the best team FROM London !

But seriously, these mini-league tables don't mean much. I couldn't care less if we were to finish at the bottom of this table if by May we're on top of everyone else in the actual EPL table.

I entirely agree.

You know sometimes I always tell my friends this...

Arsenal may not have won anything in the last 7 years but at least they are always in the top four and they challenged for the title at one point of time and usually go far in cup competitions (bar this season) but isn't that what big clubs are all about? Consistent performances each season. I didn't quite like the fact that Liverpool under Rafa Benitez had to forget about the league just to concentrate on the Champions League or the FA Cup .. It even got to a point where I said I'd rather reach 5 finals and not win them all instead of winning one trophy every 3 years because at least we reached there and big clubs always challenge for all honours (not screw the league and play in one cup).

But then ...

I contradict myself after that by saying (in the defense of Liverpool's disastrous league campaign), that at least Liverpool won the League Cup and continue to say that ... everyone remembers Arsenal as the team that 'hasn't won anything for 7 years' and not 'Arsenal, the team that qualifies for Champions League every season'. That is why I feel .. no Champions League isn't the end of the world. It's not an achievement to finish top four, but a season can still be considered successful when you've won the cup.

Don't get me wrong here, nothing against Arsenal, in fact, I like Arsenal (they're my second Premier League team) but what Bill Shankly said is true, "If you are first, you are first, if you are second, you are nothing". Everyone remembers the winners, not how well you played.

In short,
Which do you prefer?

case 1: Won FA Cup, but fail to qualify 2 UCL
case 2: not wining anything for 7 years, but qualify for UCL every year.

i like none! 7 years is too long.
if case 1 is BPL crown... i would take it. but not FA or League cup.

No Arsenal fan will tell you they are happy without winning anything for the past 7 years.. yes they will prefer UCL qualifications>fa/carling cup trophies... but to say that they are entirely happy may not be true.. my 2 cents..

case 3: winning EPL every year. But only winning UCL once every 5 years.

I will go for that(case 3) anytime.

arshavin def to be back zenit...to be sold
gervinho...inconsistent..

miyachi...same fate with vela

santos or gibbs..still not world class like sagna...so i think a world class WB to be bought..

if mvilla not coming...vertongen..can play there..

I still prefer RW to be Hulk..over Gervinho.. sweat.gif  Ox to be cover

theo & Rvp upfront...

Hazard or Gotze or Podolski at LW?  sweat.gif

Why Hulk? superstar like CR or Messi...
Dream transfer....Hulk, Gotze .. notworthy.gif
*
try and be realistic and not be an FM guy or something

arshavin stated he would love to come back Arsenal
gervinho this is his first season in Arsenal only. The first season for Nasri was pretty much the same at the moment
Miyachi has the pure raw talent and the loan to Bolton show similarity with Wilshere

No space for Mvilla, vertonghen is so-so

Hulk that's for the richer team like ManCity, Chelsea. They would probably double or triple whatever Arsenal offer
