Liverpool is undergoing some major spring cleaning. I think its a good move by the owner to flush out underperforming staff, not just blaming on the manager and the players. Unlike a certain Russian billionaire, identifying in depth what the cause of the rot and circumvent the problem as a short term goal and then lay out a long term plan for the coming season, is the way to go.

Simply firing your manager on a yearly basis and horde the market with worthless purchases while keeping your old lions isn't exactly radiating brilliance as an owner.

Liverpool may be a wreck, but its not total loss for them. I genuinely believe they will rebound next season stronger and with a resounding plan for their current manager and the team.

You guys think any Liverpool player worth buying next season?icon_idea.gif

Good post!!

I think it's good that the Liverpool owners are showing their ruthlessness. I think so far, Damien Comolli, Peter Bruckner (doctor) are leaving and rumours that John Achterburg (goalkeeping coach) is also set to leave.

There's also a rumour that Johan Cruyff has agreed a deal in principle but that remains to be seen.

I think Chelsea has a bigger rebuilding process than Liverpool because their squad at the moment relies heavily on their older players - Drogba, Lampard, Terry, Cole, Malouda and such. Even Torres is 28 and you hardly see Chelsea having youngsters in their team. I've only heard of Ryan Berthrand, Josh McEachran and Romelu Lukaku but all three are hardly playing or have hardly impressed me. To replace their older players, they've got to spend tons of money on players in the future.

I do hope you're right about Liverpool coming back because the process of rebuilding won't happen in a season! The league has been absolutely disastrous but at least Liverpool have won the League Cup and are in the FA Cup semi-final and it can still be a successful season.

Come to think of it, what if it was Arsenal in Liverpool's shoes? If you look at it, Arsenal have been showing good performance this season (overall). Its safe to say many fans of Gunners around the world are happy or atleast content with our present situation. UCL spot is almost secure, very minimal injuries among our players, our home grown players are maturing, our captain fantastic a potential Golden Boot winner, quality signings, playing top of our games with positive dressing room vibes and a brighter (less debt) future next season. In a nutshell, we've done good.

But.....still 7 years without a cup.

Liverpool on the other hand, have won the Carling Cup, with the FA cup a bright prospect for them this season. Unfortunately though, their current form is appalling in the league despite buying top players last season and the return of KD at Anfield.

Years from now, people will talk about Liverpool winning the double (carling and FA) despite the slump in form, and Arsenal won't be mentioned in the same breath as Liverpool regardless of how we performed. Perhaps the only worthy news mentioning is that of the return of King Henry to the Emirates.

So here's the £35 million question: who is the better team this season between Arsenal and Liverpool? icon_idea.gif

I entirely agree.

You know sometimes I always tell my friends this...

Arsenal may not have won anything in the last 7 years but at least they are always in the top four and they challenged for the title at one point of time and usually go far in cup competitions (bar this season) but isn't that what big clubs are all about? Consistent performances each season. I didn't quite like the fact that Liverpool under Rafa Benitez had to forget about the league just to concentrate on the Champions League or the FA Cup .. It even got to a point where I said I'd rather reach 5 finals and not win them all instead of winning one trophy every 3 years because at least we reached there and big clubs always challenge for all honours (not screw the league and play in one cup).

But then ...

I contradict myself after that by saying (in the defense of Liverpool's disastrous league campaign), that at least Liverpool won the League Cup and continue to say that ... everyone remembers Arsenal as the team that 'hasn't won anything for 7 years' and not 'Arsenal, the team that qualifies for Champions League every season'. That is why I feel .. no Champions League isn't the end of the world. It's not an achievement to finish top four, but a season can still be considered successful when you've won the cup.

Don't get me wrong here, nothing against Arsenal, in fact, I like Arsenal (they're my second Premier League team) but what Bill Shankly said is true, "If you are first, you are first, if you are second, you are nothing". Everyone remembers the winners, not how well you played.

In short,
  Which do you prefer?

case 1: Won FA Cup, but fail to qualify 2 UCL
case 2: not wining anything for 7 years, but qualify for UCL every year.

i like none! 7 years is too long.
if case 1 is BPL crown... i would take it. but not FA or League cup.
*
How can you win BPL crown but not qualify for Champions League? XD That is impossible!!

If it's for one season, I would take any trophy over a Champions League spot because it's all about winning.

Qualifying for Champions League is not an achievement but I don't want to win the FA Cup/League Cup but screw up the league every season.

If Liverpool can win anything the enter, go for them all but if they are out of the race for 4th place ... there is no point talking about finishing in top 4 so I will take any cup everytime.

People will remember who wins the cups, no who qualifies for Champions League..

Haha. I came to say i like your username.

Anyways, I hope Arsenal finishes third place this season cause if Chelsea wins the Champions League, the team who finishes 4th will drop to the Europa League.
