There also a new that they will issue some bonds to finance the MRT project.
QUOTE
Q: How will MRT be funded?
A: The RM48b MRT project will be fully funded by the
government. Malaysia will likely emulate Hong Kong’s Rail + Property development model, which could see private developers being roped in as joint venture partners. 2H11 could see the issue of US$10b Islamic bonds to fund the first phase – take-up should be strong as local funds are hungry for high-yielding papers, while the government can afford to tap into the international market given Malaysia’s current low
foreign debt levels. The MRT will go a long way in helping to reduce the government’s fuel subsidy (estimated to hit RM18b this year vs RM10b in 2010).

3 MRT lines with 2 LRT lines extension........will go a long way in increasing rail coverage, but then you need more buses too.

yeah maybe its too much to ask. but if want to persuade ppl to use public transportation efficiency must be taken into considerations especially on peak time, i dont wanna see another komuter project which everyones know its very unreliable

it's kind of weird when people talks about public transport they always talks about how packed it is during peak hours...
isn't suppose to be that way?meaning resources are maximized?...if there are many spaces left...that means the trains are being underutilized...

it is just as an excuse for not using public transportation.
Anyway Malaysian public transportation is not effective enough especially KTM.

I think one of the most important factor that causes delay in buses and not meeting strict depart arrive schedule is congestion on roads. Would be interesting if they can give dedicated lane for buses and taxis. smile.gif

I think USJ's progress is the fastest. Work from morning til 10pm night.

Probably because of pressure put on them to quickly get it over with and not contribute to the world-class traffic congestion here.

Not sure.

However, Siemens does supply systems for Paris Metro line 1, driverless, but those trains are Alstom.

Siemens does have its own driverless train product.

not possible even in 10 years ahead as its not feasible at all for now
coz seoul area alone consists of more than 24mil people living there,u cannot compare with greater KL which still not even reached 10mil people

from wiki
Greater Kuala Lumpur, also known as the Klang Valley, is an urban agglomeration of 7.2 million

Added on June 15, 2012, 8:42 pmfrom wiki
The Seoul National Capital Area is the world's second largest metropolitan area with over 25 million[7] inhabitants, which includes the surrounding Incheon metropolis and Gyeonggi province. Almost a quarter of South Koreans live in Seoul

Max speed of 100 km/h same as Singapore circle line train.

It is faster than existing LRT for sure.

Ampang line only reach 70 km/h, while Kelana Jaya line, if I am not mistaken, 80 km/h.

The Automatch Fare Collection (AFC) system will be utilised by the MRT. This will integrate all rail operators in Msia.

Seafood platter anyone? Hong Kong MRT - Octopus Card. London Underground - Oyster card. What will the MRT ticketing system be called?

I dun think that is MRT. Monorail is more likely.
MRT train will be under SMH Rail Sdn. Bhd and Siemens.

It's not the problem of walking or not,

just look at KL Sentral Monorail and KL Sentral LRT, I'd say it should be Brickfields Monorail Station rather than KL Sentral Monorail Station,

it made no sense of walking dusty and dark place to change another train

Interchange station is about integrity, imagine one day someone's going to change from MRT to Monorail at KL Sentral,

I'll say they should just use one of the KTM platform, since both KTM lines already has its interchange station at Kuala Lumpur, which just one station away, and also Putra

You are talking about merging 2 completely separate train lines, ktm & monorail. It doesnt look practical to me considering the current layout of kl sentral station

I agree with your point regarding integrity, however as I understand all 3 stations will be linked by covered/airconditioned walkways. I have seen similar stations in Japan as well, where you have to walk pretty far to change from local train lines to subway systems. Thats just the most cost effective way to do it when expanding the network, rather than re-building everything from scratch

Using one KTM platform is unlikely as KTM will also have growing traffic need, especially with the completion of electrified double tracking to Perlis which may offer more services to Penang, Kedah, Perlis.

Admittedly transferring between monorail and MRT would be less ideal in KL Sentral, as these two are far apart, about 700 metres. Nevertheless, there would be air-conditioned walkway between KL Sentral and the MRT, as well as air-conditioned walkway between Monorail and KL Sentral.

Alternatively, it might be better to transfer from MRT and monorail at Bukit Bintang station.

impossible...Seoul Metropolitan area have a total population of 20million with a total area of 5,076 square kilometres
and Klang Valley total population by 2020 is only about 10million with a total area of 2,843 square kilometres~
definitely our system will be smaller than Seoul metro system

PBD is underground ? so where is the exit tunnel ?

right after the station ? towards semantan side ?

cause from the picture of the station at the top left macam tak macam underground one

Yep, the videos make it especially clear that PBD and Pasar Rakyat stations are future interchanges with lines 2 and 3. However, that still doesn't explain Kota Damansara and Plaza Phoenix.

The only underground stations are KL Sentral, Pasar Seni, Merdeka, Bukit Bintang Central, Pasar Rakyat, Cochrane and Maluri. Hence PBD is above ground. The future Line 2 may be underground though.

PBD, elevated. Then Semantan also elevated. Then entering Semantan portal, towards KL Sentral.

According to plan, Line 2 will be mostly underground, but not the whole.

In video, future circle line passing through PBD station, that part would be underground.

No idea about that.

About interchange, looks like Merdeka MRT station will be another interchange station, to the Ampang line (Plaza Rakyat).

MyMRTUnderground video has been updated. Of which, the Bkt Bintang station design had been updated and with modified construction sequence.

Yeah, trying to figure out why. It could have been an error. Pity the media never asks such questions eh? LOL. The other option could be for some form of BRT. I don't foresee another MRT line running from Kota Damansara, nor LRT either. Could someone check up on the proposed BRT corridors in KL?

Thanks Kampung. So it looks like Kota Damansara is indeed interchange with a proposed BRT route. Is Alam Damai anywhere near Plaza Phoenix?
*
Alam Damai is not far from Plaza Phoenix, it is at the southwest of Plaza Phoenix.

Makes sense then that they would try to connect all of them together. I realised that you can also see the outlines of the lines being planned for both BRT and MRT/LRT in that map.

Looks like MRT line 3 might go through Titiwangsa and Sentul.

MRT 3, according to plan, will be 61 km long, in two phases. Northern end shall two branches, one leads to Kepong, while another leads to Selayang. I assume Kg Baru LRT station might be the interchange.

Any idea how was the station location determined? Based upon attraction densities? Local population? And how frequent are the trains at the first stage for public use?

Many factors:

- Attractions

- Population density

- The ease of building station

- Integration with other rail transit (KTM, LRT, Monorail)

Probably you may see a pier beside Sprint Expressway in not so long future, though still in rebar (is that correct term?), as you can see on the left of the road sign.

^^ Nice colour for the cutterhead. Not sure which machine this is. The orange and white one that has been assembled in Cochrane is machine S-774.

All these constructions are probably the cause of our frequent floods lately.

Not saying we shouldn't have MRTs or LRT extensions, but is there no way to improve the drainage?

Even for house/apartment/condo etc constructions the workers just throw all the stuff into the drain.

Just spoke to someone involved in the project. There are 8 Herrenknecht machines and 2 more from another company (these are the Semantan ones).

3 machines are being assembled and another 2 are on site in KL. Instead of following the typical convention of naming the machines with individual names, they have gone with identifying the drives. The ones at Cochrane are named Cochrane 1 and Cochrane 2. Similarly, the one at Semantan now is Semantan 1. This helps them to identify the drives. The other 2 that are on site in KL are Semantan 2 and Inai 1.

Cochrane 1 on the right is digging the northbound tunnel (Towards Sungai Buloh). This one is also the lower tunnel at Pasar Rakyat and Bukit Bintang stations so will have to be dug first. Cochrane 2 on the left is digging the southbound tunnel (Towards Kajang) and will follow behind about 50m or so, with the upper tunnel.

That one is LRT extension project to Kinrara, Puchong and Putra Heights, by Prasarana.

This one, is MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang, by MRT Corp smile.gif

Lots of confusion between LRT and MRT for public, because more or less are the same. It is a rapid transit anyway.

*
Cochrane 1 and 2 also towards pasar rakyat... So ultimately towards sungai buloh.

Cochrane 3 will arrive at site by next week.

Correct, both are towards Sungei Buloh direction, but easier to visualise if its mentioned which bound is being bored.. smile.gif Cochrane 1 is Sungei Buloh bound (northbound) and Cochrane 2 is Kajang bound (southbound).. Has Cochrane 3 arrived already..?

Haha, I see.. More than one platform doesn't mean stacked.. From what I know, there is supposed to be a depot nearby.. Perhaps this is an extra track for ease of allowing trains to enter or exit the main line from the depot.. smile.gif

do this means kota damansara station will be the future exchange for mrt and mrt3 instead of sungai buloh?
*
Not very sure, but the media briefings have always shown Kota Damansara and Plaza Phoenix stations as interchanges.. Was told that the Sungei Buloh - Putrajaya line would pass through these stations..

You mean train frequency or travel time? smile.gif

If travel time, it is like this.

Sungai Buloh to Seksyen 16 (Eastin Hotel) = 24 minutes

Seksyen 16 to Pusat Bandar Damansara = 4 minutes

Pusat Bandar Damansara to Semantan = 2 minutes

Semantan to KL Sentral = 4 minutes

KL Sentral to Pasar Seni = 2 minutes

Pasar Seni to Merdeka = 1 minute

Merdeka to Bkt Bintang = 2 minutes

Bkt Bintang to Pasar Rakyat = 2 minutes

Pasar Rakyat to Cochrane = 2 minutes

Cochrane to Kajang = 29 minutes

i mean why not direct make it 6 cars at the first place why must wait until every car is loaded only want to consider 6 cars? this kind of simple metality is the one that make our country lagging behind

Even our current LRT 6 cars is already almost packed during peak hours...

unlike singapore they require 6 cars because everyone there use the public transport (whole nation)
even they having 6 cars, they still got carry people, not merely bringing "angin" on board
*
Wasn't like that all the time though 6 cars were run from the start..
I think its easier to get more trains or lower the project cost in the short term by using 4-car trains.. However, the response to increase train length must be quick, unlike that of the Kelana Jaya Line in the past where they waited too long to react..

I believe it is allocated for future development. To me, number of trains more important than number of coaches. The frequency of train per minute is more efficient than maximum capacity per go. They estimated 2-3 minutes per station, and it seem to be very efficient already.

Nevertheless, viaducts progressing near peak.

yes if i'm not mistaken singapore started it's construction of the mrt line in 1985
by 1987 part of it were open and completed

they started with 6 cars and is still using 6 cars till today

what they did to improve their efficiency and cater for reducing people's travel time was to increase the frequency and time the trains accordingly to specific needs
*
1983 - construction began
1987 - 5 stations opened
1990 - completion of initial lines

What I meant was that the trains weren't always full from day 1.. They had periods, especially on the CCK Branch line where it was pretty empty (ala LRT)..

The frequency still has much to improve upon though..

Tunnel Boring Machine Cochrane No.1, which was launched by Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak on 30 May 2013, has passed the halfway point between the Cochrane Launch Shaft and Pasar Rakyat Station.

There is now less than 500 metres of tunelling for us to complete the first tunnel section for the MRT Sg.Buloh-Kajang Line.

Here is a view of the inside of the tunnel and a close-up of different parts of the tunnel boring machine.

Artist impression of the trains, manufactured by Siemens, which will be used for the MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line. The design of the trains, by Designworks USA of the BMW Group, has been finalized, but the livery of the trains will be determined at a later stage. Each train set will have four cars and can carry 1,200 people. #malaysia #mrtmalaysia #mrtcorp #kvmrt #train #siemens #bmw #metro #instadaily#instagood #instagram

I was told since the MRT tracks are overhead, the crossroads beside Sunway Giza will be upgraded with an underpass for Persiaran Surian through-traffic.

Another byproduct is that bus routes around 1 Utama area will definitely change.

Route such as U82 (a popular one) is expected to change or modified smile.gif

Ya, hope SPAD will instruct buses (especially Metrobus) to use the bus stop beside the 1U MRT station and also a proper bus stop at the New Wing of 1U instead of stopping beside the LDP slip road! The buses (Metrobus & RapidKL) that stop at the slip road is causing traffic congestion especially when heavy traffic is leaving 1U during peak hours!

There is a signboard there "TIDAK DIBENARKAN MENUNGGU BAS" but unfortunately someone vandalized it by removing the word "TIDAK".

This TBM is Herrenknecht made S-775 and will tunnel to Bukit Bintang station where they will bore through and exit at Pudu shaft. After that, they will dismantle the tunnel from inside the station box to construct the station itself.

Other TBMs used at Cochrane are Herrenknecht S-774, S-776, S-778 and S-779.
