Traditionally, current accounts were not designed to earn you substantial interest unlike your savings and fixed deposit accounts. It's seen as a transactional facility with cheque books etc, which is why a lot of current accounts in the market don't even pay interest, or minimal, although times are changing whereby you might want to check our current account comparison tool to see which current accounts are giving the best interest rates in the market. But a deposit is a deposit and as long as that remains, we should be rewarded for depositing with a bank, no matter what account type it is.

Well, CIMB are currently having a promotion at the moment that is taking my previous statement very seriously. Because from now till the 31st January 2012, the CIMB Preferred Account is offering an astonishing 5% p.a on balances up to RM500,000. In order to be eligible, one must join CIMB Preferred Banking whereby a minimum of RM200,000 in AUM (Assets Under Management) with the bank is a pre requisite to eligibility. And obviously, a CIMB Preferred Account must be opened too.

So hurry and deposit now to make the most of this promotion. The simplest most hassle free way to apply for the CIMB Preferred Account is to click the "Find out more" button below, submit your contact details to the bank and a CIMB banker will be in touch with you to assist in your enquiries and application. Enjoy!

sure sounds amazing

It's just a ploy to make your cash as illiquid as possible through marketing. They're selling 'status'.

Financial benefits are marginal. Perks are insignificant. If you're smart enough to be able to just let a quarter of a million bucks just sitting there collecting dust, you should be smart enough to get your own teller. If its the status that you're worried about, just get a black card instead.

Compulsory to spend more ? No. No such thing. But yes. You can apply for the account simply to get a more favourable interest rate.

I would say if you are qualified for the CIMB Preferred, try to go for another bank instead. The reason so is because I am with MBB Private Banking and CIMB Preferred; and CIMB's RM quality falls far behind the one MBB have. This is the largest drawback from CIMB.

Virtually, you need to have at least 250K in the CIMB AUM to maintain a Preferred membership. If your account falls beyond 250K, then you have to pay RM200 quarterly for the service. Difference between MBB and CIMB is, you get a car sticker, MBB doesn't. You get a membership card for both.

Ah, you get nothing for maintaining a CIMB Preferred membership, whereas off and on, you will get "something" from your MBB RM.

how much for mbb priority?

i think cimb preferred is the "cheapest" 200 or 250k. uob needs 500k, others think >400k.

am i right?

to me, i think best benefits for cimb preferred are:
. interest for ca is good enough at 2+%
. commission charge for itrade is low enough
. interest 2+% for funds in transit acc for itrade buy-sell

there is really little else, except the rm calls from time to time on certain promos...

MBB private banking required you to have 250K as well. RM calls are basically nothing if they are asking you to purchase their products, instead of giving you freebies or good services.

Cimb preferred Rm more pro active rather than my Relationship banker MBB.. so my conclusion it depend to individial how care our account..

both have benefits to customers. but i just received OD facilities from CIMB more fastest rather than MBB that required a lot of docs...with docs turn around take more than a week to get answered

If you are a CIMB Preferred member, their housing loans have one of the best rates on the market, with no lock-in period.

Some corrections to avoid confusion. If one is a CIMB preferred customer, then the rate is the best in the market (BLR-2.4%) as of now regardless of the loan amount. No lock in period as it's full flexi loan.
