Guys,

Need your comment and opinion of this HU from Sony Sony WX-GT80UI

Should I still need to change my component even though i'm satisfy with the `current' performance

Advice needed before I make the purchase

Thank you

No brother, i'm not implying that as a matter of fact that I has yet to change the HU and found out about this model and previously I'm also asking the same question and you guys give me the advice that I should change the component first before considering to change to any HU

So yes, that's how the question came out. Sorry for any misunderstanding smile.gif

assuming your current HU has all the functions you need (eg: usb) and is working properly, then consider changing component set speakers first as it will yield better differences compared to changing a HU and running on stock speakers.

granted, changing both would be better if you're willing to splurge a bit. if budget restraint, or if you want to understand the difference of what each items does (component set speakers or HU for example) then do it step by step smile.gif

If I'm allowed to ask, usually what is the budget range in order for me to splurge if let say I wanted to change both HU and component set speakers so that it can be upgraded from stock audio to maybe an entry level ICE quality audio

Does brand choosing for component i.e alpine or focal bring any big differences?

Hi there no problem
Actually I have the ps 165 hooked to a 4 channel amp and put as my rear speakers tongue.gif
And the gm 6508 as front stage
I usually fade the fader 100% to the front but if want to audit the ps165 u can come meet me hehe
Can compare to gm cs6508 and see which one u like smile.gif
I put it there because I'm not a focal guy hehe
U can try and see which one u like smile.gif

if you want to change both HU and component set, for lowest range entry level for reputable brands, you'll need at least around RM900-1.2k.

brand does make a difference, however for entry level, the sound signature differences aren't really that huge. for HU it's typically pioneer/alpine and 1 step cheaper would be clarion/blaupunkt, old eclipse if you can still find them

Screw the backspeakers, get a custom panel, plonk in a simple Rainbow SLC model component set, throw in an underseat woofer and you'll have a pretty decent entry level setup that'll beat the pants off some setups.

Come come.. let unker izso poison you... whistling.gif

Bro, asking how much budget to splurge is the wrong question. Question should be how much are you willing to fork out? Personally I'd ask you to forget the entry level stuff and just jump in high end or mid-range and be satisfied longer.

Head units will cost anything between RM300 (Sony stuff) to RM5000 (Denon/McIntosh/Clarion)
Components will cost anything between RM700 (Alpines/Rainbows/Dominations/etc) to RM5000 or more (Sinfoni/Dynaudio/Scanspeaks/etc)

So personally? I'd suggest going for a player like the Clarion HXD2, Pioneer P80 or something 'middle range' priced.
Then go for a middle range component set that'll knock your socks off (depending on your preference) paired with an amp that'll support it. Save up for a proper sub + sub box + amp. Then you'll be done for at the very least 5 years and possibly poisoning some friends along the way.

Don't listen to Quazacolt. His is no where near "entry level". My myvi is true entry level - all in RM2k.
