my suggestion will be get a front component and do some simple soundproof on the door..it might settle for around 1-1.2k. the rest of the money can get a trunk active sub. if you do not need a hu change.
*
Dear Sifu Howiechoo,

Pls advise...

- My ride: Altis 2008
- Prefers SQ/SPL/SQL: SQ
- File format/medium used for my source: CD, MP3, Bluetooth
- Music genre: Electric, Dance, Pop, Musical, Vocal
- Budget: <2k
- Setup type preferences: 2 way passive
- Other requirements (if any): Still using stock HU (dunno whether need to replace or not)

I have replaced front speakers to Focal RSE 165 component and have done simple soundproof to the front doors and also done big 3 upgrade.
I was considering getting a dsp amplifier plus active sub or a 4 channel amp + SW

Or just follow your advise above getting a trunk active sub is sufficient.

Need your expert opinion..

My ride:
Perodua Myvi (MY2018, 1.5H variant).

- Prefers SQ/SPL/SQL:
Not sure, possibly SQ.

- File format/medium used for my source:
256kbps AAC sourced from iTunes Store, audio from Youtube app /
iPhone X, standard Android phone.

- Music genre:
Pop, hip-hop/rap, R&B, alternative (basically top 40 stuff).

- Budget:
RM 1500-1800 for HU, speakers I'm not sure. Total shouldn't exceed RM 2500.

- Setup type preferences:
This one also I'm not sure, maybe just replace the existing stuff in the car without additional hacking if possible.
For HU, I'm thinking either Sony XAV-AX200 or Alpine XAV-AX200.

- Other requirements (if any):
Must keep steering wheel controls.
I also want a set of cameras. I'm thinking 1 reverse, 2 front. Not sure how to proceed with this requirement.

Hi bro, mind to share your current setup?

for this bajet, i suggest u get 6.5" component 2-way setup. 3-way the speakers r expensive and workmanship even more expensive. try to put more bajet on the speakers as you would not want this item to be upgraded on & off...

Based exp in this field 1997 - 2007.. not worth to invest in audio system especialy nowdays not many people willing to spend even on branded 2nd unit.. my 2 cents advice.. spend on soundproofing is OK.. If really want to upgrade look for OEM replacement like Top Palace speaker is cheaper & not power hungry can drive with 8ch/10ch DSP Class D amplifier.. This DSP Class D amplifier can be use back to your new car after you sold current car..

Hi All Sifus,

First time into ICE, need some advice whether my budget sufficient for the intended setup, if not, what are the alternative replacements to lower the cost and yet retain the sound quality.

Budget: RM10K-12K (Audio equipment plus installation), RM3K-4K (Soundproofing entire car)

My ride: Perodua Aruz AV
Preference: SQ (reference - love the kind of sound from my british home speaker EPOS ES14 - very sweet and clear mid tone - clean and crisp high)
File format: Flac, mp3, usb etc
Music Genre: Jazz, Pop, New Age
Intended Setup: 3-way active front and 2-way passive rear

HU: Retain Original Stock
DSP+AMP: Audison Prima Series AP8.9 Bit 8 Channel Amplifier with built-in DSP
SPEAKERS: Morel Virtus 603 (3-way active front) + Virtus 602 (2-way passive rear)

Kind of firmed on the Morel speakers but not sure on the DSP and amps. Need some advice from the experts here whether able to lower the cost by 2-3K so that my wife wont make noise.

Many thanks in advance!!!

Thanks, as I prefer the Morel speakers, I would rather find the amp that matches the speakers. Which DSP amp do you think will match the Morel? How about Helix V8?

Sifu Oldskolboyz,

How will the following combi compare in terms of price and performance?

1. Helix V8 DSP Amp + Morel Virtus 603 + Morel Maximo 2-way

2. Hertz H8 DSP + Morel MPS 4.400 x 2 + Morel Virtus 603 + Morel Maximo 2-way

3. Zapco DSP-Z8 + Morel MPS 4.400 x 2 + Morel Virtus 603 + Morel Maximo 2-way

I was thinking whether it will be better to use back Morel amp to drive their speakers. Getting my car soon, wanted to pin down the combi so that I can get the accessories shop to quote.
