Basic setup : Component speakers, stock player, underseat woofer and door panels, about 2.4k all in all new. If you have a higher budget you can do much better than that.

SPL = sound pressure level, usually refers to the blokes who like to blast loud loud loud bass.

HI, I have an old car (1993 Ford Laser) and am having problems with the audio player /speakers for quite a long time and it's time for a change (it's a really old player - you know those type with radio + cassette). There's buzzing sounds most of the time listening to the radio and occasionally the radio stops after a few seconds even after "restarting" it. Only 1 speaker is functioning - not sure if it's due to loose wiring).

I'm thinking of replacing it with one that can play mp3 (has USB socket).

Are there any players around RM100 (I think it's unlikely as I've asked around)? Otherwise please suggest the cheapest replacement, with nothing fancy - main goal is to have an OK player that can play mp3 given by friends (all sorts of songs) + listen to radio (I'm not sure if replacing just the player is enough). The speakers may also need replacement.

Where can I find such places selling 200+? I live near BU and went to several accessory shops in Uptown. The cheapest (JVC) is already 300+ and 400+ and more for some other brands like Nakamichi/Pioneer. They usually tell me they don't sell cheap ones due to customers coming back frequently for problems later. There is a cheaper one in Eneos 1Utama (RM250) but doesn't have the USB slot.

I notice from your siggy that you have a shop. Do you have products that suit my needs? My tolerable budget will be about RM300-400 (max within RM 500) including installation + some low cost speakers as replacement or /fix existing speaker connection if possible(out of so many, the only one speaker functioning is the one at the driver's door).

This is hard to say. My setup in my Myvi costs around there plus a little more and to me it's pretty decent. And if I were to put it in a different perspective, it's pretty damn good for that sort of money.
However compared to my much more expensive setup in my other car, this setup in my Myvi is just 'average'.

But ultimately it really depends on your ears. If you feel what you hear is good, then it's good no matter what the cost (cheap or expensive). Kinda like my wife, she can't tell the difference between my Myvi and my other car, except that the more expensive setup is "sharper".

So if you're interested in a 1500 setup, have a listen to my Myvi one of these days and decide if this is good enough for you or not then only conclude yourself.

Hmmm, i would like to restate my criteria.
My ride: Myvi 1.3 premium
- File format/medium used for my source: MP3 320kbps
- Music genre: Acoustic, R and B, slow jazz and light and easy kinda song. Once in awhile clubbing song. I want a crystal clear sound
- Budget: Rm1000. I heard that to get a clear sound, basically an amp and speakers are enough, is that true?

For 1K you probably could get away with clearer sound, but you won't get any bass for your clubbing songs. Come come TT and let me poison you. Hehehe
