well.. after overcharging, uber protection from our gomen, they can still post a losss... what gives??? really  doh.gif

but good point. if they can up their standard to say like perodua.. i'll be happy.. no doubt the preve has some freaking good specs.. as you said, quality and reliability remains the question smile.gif
*
Actually Forte 2.0 still have better spec than Preve. tongue.gif
Proton still giving better spec to other countries. They announced the Aussie Preve will get 6airbags and ESC standard across the range but Malaysia max only 4 and IAFM don't have ESC and make do with 2airbags only. Proton really should learn from the Korean even Picanto got 6airbags and VSM.

FYI, now SD only supplying 1.6HS and if u confirm by this weekend you can get some freebies like tinting and emblem with number plate. Confirm can get car end of the month. But 1.6STD can only get the car as soon as 1-2mths time. No showroom has this model yet anyway. SD just gave directive to promote 1.6HS for now next batch only 1.6STD.

PS: so those who paid or waited since last year and those who just booked today can get at the same time  blink.gif
*
Yup my SA also told me this month can get car. But too bad no freebie and rebate also. sweat.gif

Added on April 6, 2012, 8:55 pmBtw i have tested 3 cars today on the same route. Elantra 1.6HS, Elantra 1.8, Forte 1.6SX. First up Forte 1.6SX, then Elantra 1.6HS... Power wise both are adequate for me with 4 people on board as i don't really need that much power. Day to day driving both cars are perfectly fine for me in term of drivability. Both cars have no problem pulling out from busy junction just a matter whether you dare to press the gas. Elantra is obviously much quieter than Forte in term of road noise due to the 16" rim and better insulation. You may try to lift the mat in the boot of Forte and notice that there is no insulation in Forte's boot. At least there are some sound deadening pieces in the Elantra. Then the vibration of the engine, in Forte you can feel the vibration through the gas pedal at around 4500rpm while this only happens in Elantra near redline. But then both are very quiet at idle. Steering of Forte is a bit heavier but Elantra seems to have quicker steering ratio so turn in is more responsive. The gearbox of Elantra seems more responsive than Forte too during some in-gear acceleration test. From 60 to 100, can feel the Forte's gearbox was changing twice but Elantra only once.
Next up 1.8 Premium. Throttle response quite similar with 1.6HS but there is definitely more pulling power at higher rev. The road noise is still better than Forte and the ride is better as well. I am wondering whether the tyre pressure on Forte was too full because Forte seems to have more vibration in some coarse surfaces and bumpier which was not felt in Elantra regardless of the rim size.
Conclusion: Great value for money compared with the Japanese. The NVH and overall build quality should be second among the Asians and only behind the Sylphy rclxms.gif

I managed to test the 1.6HS along KESAS today.
Turned off the ECON from the start n it felt totally different from when I test drove it last Fri at Citta. I was impressed. Even during idle to accelerate on a slope the car didn't really have much problem going up. Massive jam along LDP but the response n noise level really good. Then suddenly got one Forte honk me. Haha!!! Don't care about him n go on. Overall it's a nice ride. My interest is back to Elantra now.
*
People used to Vios will definitely feel the car lack that kind of instant power. And be frank even the 1.8 also not at powerful as Vios at lower rev. The power of Elantra kicks in at higher rev. biggrin.gif
So I would say the 1.6 is adequate for daily use and city driving. rclxms.gif

Can anyone enlighten me whether the green Eco light of Elantra in Malaysia
1) just to show whether we drive fuel efficient or not
OR
2) control the engine throttle to make it more fuel efficient

As I understood from this video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1T98fI3nUZE

a) the Ecomode which control engine throttle should be green Eco light come with Eco button (2012 model).
b) the Ecomode with only green Eco light only show our driving behaviour (2011 model), which seems like the case with the 1st batch Elantra in Malaysia.

My SA only told me the Eco light automatically goes OFF when we sped and ON when we slow down. For me it seems like only showing driving behavior, and not doing engine throttle control for fuel saving.
*
The first one is called Active Eco System which is only available in Korea and US. The rest of the world is getting the eco driving gauge.

wao, still got many ppl willing to buy elantra. but at least u guys no need to wait long. congrate to those can get car end of this month.

Is it a good choice to get elantra or forte which is value for money. At least Elantra hv better fuel. is it the fc so diff from Forte? How much can save in 500km?
*
The FC should be very similar. With Dual CVVT maybe it can save you a mere RM20 in 500km. So FC shouldn't be something to bother you if you are considering between Forte and Elantra. Value for money definitely Forte also. biggrin.gif

Yes agreed. People jumping on Elantra are mainly those willing to spend on the design and new gen platform. For those who are cost and offerings bias normally will turn to Forte......

Still got one function I like in Elantra which was not found on Forte. Elantra got one touch triple blink indicator rclxms.gif

This function normally found in continental cars one. You just tap the indicator stalk once (don't need to engage it) and the signal will blink three times. biggrin.gif

Err I can't find any video. normally when u wanna switch lane you will need to hold on the signal to let it blink a few times but this one you just tap it once and it will flash for 3 times. biggrin.gif

I took another test drive of the 1.6HS again.

This time I use shiftronic gear most of the time, it is quite fun and acceleration is better than D mode, even there were three adults sitting inside the car. the shiftronic works like manual car, I rev it to 4000rpm, I can feel the power starting around 3000rpm, although the acceleration responsiveness is not immediately, but quite ok to me. however, the engine is pretty noisy when revving higher than 3000RPM.

Then I went to the next door to test the Toyota Prius C which has the same price tag as Elantra 1.6 HS, the Prius C gave me totally different driving experience, the engine is damn quiet at low speed, acceleration is very smooth, I can't feel any gear shift, although the power is not that great compare to Elantra 1.6 HS, but it is quite a pleasure drive.

Now I'm really in the dilemma, I like the Elantra appearance and cabin size, but I do like the Prius C quietness and FC, now scratching my head already.
*
It is because Prius C did not fire up the engine at low speed. If you press the pedal deeper or drive faster then only the engine will start biggrin.gif

My wife and I were waiting for this car since last year. She decided to change her old Honda city to the all new elantra. Went and test drive today the elantra 1.6 high spec. To our surprise, the 1.6 feel very under power. The dashboard quality is bad especially the air con control norb. Feels and looks like a cheap plastic painted silver or something like that. The ride comfortness is no different than the honda city. Even I feel the 1.5 city has better pick up. Overall, the exterial look good. But quality wise for interior, inOkom has made the elantra look very cheap. I was expecting more from this car but it let us down and dissapointment. For the price is deffinately not worth buying.
*
Inokom did not make the elantra, they assembled it. We are getting the same one as the American. If 96k not worth it then maybe you should look at Mazda3 or City E and see how high their quality are. smile.gif

To those that tested drive the 1.6 and commented that it is sluggish, I believe it will get better over time when more mileage is done. Plus I believe most modern cars come with an ecu that will adapt to your driving style. But of cuz for better weight to power ratio, the 1.8 would be better. There's one more thing that I don't understand, for a c segment car, how can they include anything less than a 2.0 engine, in this case the 1.8... Sigh...
*
Actually most of the c-seg in the world is using 1.8L engine. You can take a look at the US market, only Focus and Mazda3 are using 2.0.

Finally managed to test drive the car in glenmarie today. Tested the 1.6 n 1.8 version.

To be honest, i was hoping for alot especially with all the hype this car has gotten. I got in the 1.6 version first. Interior qquality was ok. But i cant understand why the doors were still using hard plastic at this level.

Steering felt light at high speeds.not good at all. Power at lowrpm was ok, but the moment u floor the pedal, rpm goes up to 6k but hardly any power felt.

Verdict: very underpower

Then it was the 1.8 version. Got in, nice touchscreen greeted me b
Although a bit laggy. Was expecting more power. But unfortunately power was more or less the same as 1.6 version. Hardly any power at high rpms.noisy engine .

Verdict: underpowered and overpriced.

No doubt the designof exterior n interior is good. But the materials they use are of cheap quality . Cheapo leather seats. Rear seats super cramp as car has very low roofline.

Overall verdict: i cant understand who will buy this car . Its a good try by hyundai but doesnt even come close to toyota altis in terms of refinement. Even my previous honda city 1.5 had more power.
*
Hyundai and Kia's 4 cylinders petrol engine are well known to be unrefined at higher rev(they still need some time) but I don't think normal people will rev that high rpm in day to day driving especially when using the petrol paid by your own pocket money. If you drive it on the normal way, I don't think it will lose out to Altis and definitely better than Civic. Engine noise alone doesn't represent the overall refinement department of the car. smile.gif

can't really compare between the car in US and malaysia. They alwaz get more stuff in their car , 6 speakers is the mininum requirement, 6 airbags as well. for air bag it's the rule set by the authority. in malaysia, no rules set n needed to follow..
*
Features aside, the ride & handling, refinement, performance and interior quality should be very similar to ours.

US road a lot of straight road(highway). thats why car handling is not a big issue.

but in european the road is very demanding, must need good handling car.

US version got active ECO mode, which you can switch on/off the ECO. It does affect performance and acceleration of the car.

Most of the review of the car were 2011 model year, which did not come with Active Eco. You may refer to those reviews when the car was first launched smile.gif

SD did not take out this feature. This feature only available in Korea and US. Exora and Persona also can go to Genting I don't really see any problem with Elantra. tongue.gif

Yes it does. Parts has been strips off and interior material are locally made. Poor quality compare to original avante ( in Korea called avante). So after all these, the price is too high and it's not worth buying.

What makes you think so? I have touched the interior both in Australia and in Singapore. i can't really tell the difference between the Inokom one and others. Even their door panels are as hard as ours. biggrin.gif

*
That's the problem of having too many models and SKD. I think currently Elantra is the C-seg with the most models in Malaysia sweat.gif
