I think in US, the car has the eco button, where you can turn off the eco mode and changes the settings.

Seems like our version, eco mode is always on, and off it when you accelerates. I think the engine settings is different
*
In US they have Active Eco which is different from our eco driving mode

I can confirm for you guys that there is no ECO button even in the US version of the Elantra, ECO is an indication if you are driving economically or not.

You'll get the power only if you decide not to drive "ECO" style. That's what I found out during my drive in the US. Overall, I like the car very much, just that its quite light to be susceptible to crosswinds drag, but you wont face that problem here in malaysia.

This is great for FC cuz if u see the ECO light on, you can be sure you're getting at least 32-ish mpg. I manage to average 38 mpg in US city drive (which translates to about 15km/l if not mistaken ) on R91 petrol.

And it takes quite a while for it to switch out of ECO, unless you floor it the moment u start your engine.

Otherwise just switch to manual gears. no problem with power there.
*
The Elantra you drove should be a 2011 model year so don't have Active Eco. They added the function starting from 2012 model year.

so we are getting a 2011 car by SD.... what a rip-off
*
Applied in US only. Spec vary across regions.

Does that mean our current version also doesn't come with this?

Only US and Korea have this function... All other places don't have

It they are listening to us, they won't wanna increase the price as written in memo..  mad.gif

Even if 10 people in lowyat bashing here and cancelling booking, outside maybe 1000 people queueing for cars now. If they only have 3000 units for this year do you think they will reduce the price when the booking is already more than 1000? biggrin.gif

not sure if that is gonna achieve anything.. its just wishful thinking... FB/LYN does not represent the majority of Malaysians looking at this car.

anyway.. pretty please.. for those who tested, can anyone confirm if the rear view window is ECM? the specs on the first page says that it is..
*
No ECM. The rear view mirror got no sensor and power light on it.

i tested but.. i starring at the rear view mirror for 5mins. up down left right, i cant c any different with a normal rear view.. so sry. Howver will test drive again n again to finalize my final answer
*
ECM functions when the sensor detect light of certain brightness and dim the mirror. Can check out the one on Forte.

so can we argue with SD what is going that the spec posted totally not equal with the real feature

Added on April 2, 2012, 3:18 pm[quote=wei,Apr 2 2012, 03:15 PM]
I too went to test drove one. Well, only the 1.6HS. And the test drive route is so short I can't tell much. No comment on the driving experience, anything better than my aging car I'm happy. The manual mode did help to push the car if you are not satisfy with the auto. I'm not a street racer, neither I have deep pocket to swallow performance (higher segment) car. Only complain is the rear headroom a bit tight. Considering I will fetch mostly my family, they are not that tall. So I think it's alright. I have my personal reason not to get the forte. So will not argue on that.

i would like to knw your argument! May i?

The one in front is tentative spec not official one. This is the official brochure which didn't mention anything about ECM.

oopss.. i think bro fluidic will need to update the spec sheet to the latest one then..

sigh... to be honest, i would have happily paid 112k for the current spec sheet stated in the 1st page.. sad to see a couple of simple features being removed.. aiyah.. dont want to think so much first.. need to test drive then only decide.. tongue.gif
*
Most of the spec listed are correct. So far i only spotted 3 item incorrect. Power fold mirror and ECM. another one is bonus for 1.6HS which have sliding center console. rclxms.gif

@WieBoy let me slide on that la. Forte doesn't appeal to me. And more gadget = more things to take care and repair later on. (If they can sell you a car that almost not making money, they will find other way to get it back. It's basic business.) But don't bash me on that lar. My reason is really personal leh. Hahaha...

-----------

Say did most of you get the full brochure (the one with red elantra on cover). If many want to see, I can scan and put it up by tmrw.
*
I would like to see if you have it because my SA said the brochure will reach only on thursday. rclxms.gif

i am pretty sure they will drop the price or give a discount on this, if not this batch for sure the next batch. HSM is known for this, a little patience will go a long way
*
Sonata, Tucson, SantaFe and Starex can get discount on different batched?

using the average mpg given.. that is just purely specs to attract attention... u know i know every1 driving style is different.. road condition is different...

so regarding about FC.. dont mention it.. cause its subjective..
*
But still it does represent something. If it is useless then no point having the so called official fuel consumption. smile.gif

yeahh.. kinda agree with you guys there.. i would happily trade the rain sensor and sunroof for more airbags and ECM sad.gif as for the side mirrors, my trusty wira 1.5gl does not have it either and i think i got used to closing it whenever i get down from the car.. so its not too biggie for me.. but the ECM would really help during night driving.. well, just some opinion from this uncle..
*
I think they are trying to replicate the formula on Sonata. Give sunroof and 2 airbags only. sweat.gif

it is in average.. its just a point to tell u that.. this car can move this distance at this amount of fuel.. so when ppl uses this reading to compare with their daily drive.. then they start to complain.. then what..? the car is faulthy..? its just a guideline on how much this car can get.. accurate reading is depend on ur own calculation.. then that is called personal accurate reading.. and that is why i say it is subjective..
*
But the whole point of having official fuel consumption is not for you to compare the figure with your actual fuel consumption. It is to allow consumers to compare with other cars before making their buying decision. biggrin.gif

According to conversation wit SA yestreday, Lame Darby not giving any discount for these models in their history, only price hike due to high demand.

Can anyone confirm this?
*
Paultan can confirm this

none of these models are having sales pronlems during launch unlike elantra

by the way the tuscon sales have taken a dip with the new kia sportage, sa also throwing in HU units for hi spec 2.0 sonata, some offer cash discount...but just me 2 cents
*
Some cash rebate or freebies should not have much affect as compared to the huge cash discount they did before. Even Camry was offering up to 12k rebate also.

Both Tuscon and Sonata very much affected by the Sportage and Optima. Sonata sales dropped 45% in Feb while Optima sales increased by 238% compared to January. Even Teana dropped 37% in Feb. Dunno why.

114 units of Sonata sold in Feb compared to 206 units in Jan. Optima sold 152 units in Feb comapred to 45 units in Jan.
*
But sales figure of a month can't really tell the whole story especially the car is CBU and not CKD. Just like the Passat which fluctuate a lot in past few months.

People are expecting the price to be similar with Forte. Many people still feel that Korean cars are not yet up to the standard to be a direct competitor with Japs so they need to be cheap. tongue.gif

If Forte can do it, why cant Hyundai?
Furthermore with so many gadgets and features.

Does it mean than Forte is making a loss and Hyundai is just getting by?
Why is Elantra priced much higher than Forte? If so what justifications?
Both are of the same segment what.

Simply saying Elantra is not of the same class as Forte is really nonsense and lame excuse.

Dont bash me yah.....
*
You still don't understand the difference between Naza and SimeDarby until today?
Elantra is not the first model facing such problem. Look at K5, Sportage and Sorento compared to their cousins. doh.gif

ofcourse people will complain, duh... Competitve pricing and warranty are korean selling points.

Competitive pricing and warranty... Elantra pricing not competitive? laugh.gif

seriously, its pretty amazing how Naza managed to pull down the prices. i mean look at the k5. its same price as the sonata 2.0 High Spec and yet the K5 specs makes it look GODLIKE!!! no doubt the sonata is CBU la..
*
That's why you can tell which company have more power. Not just Kia, even Cruze 1.8 oso can price at 99k. 308 like tat oso 118k only. Kia, Chevy and Pug all under Naza. sweat.gif
