Just now brought my family to test drive the Elantra again, seem like my parents don't like it because of the head room and leg room, when I adjusted to my usual driving position, at my back hardly can sit an adult with height over 170cm, Hyundai don't know how to design it, 2700mm should be long enough for a c-seg car, just take the Sylphy as an example, but Hyundai doesn't fully use the 2700mm wheelbase. Too bad, so gonna say goodbye to Hyundai Elantra.
*
If Elantra's legroom cannot fit anyone above 170cm behind you, then you can forget about Altis, Lancer, Mazda3, Inspira, Forte and 308 as well smile.gif
Based on my own test using galaxy S2, I'm 174 and Elantra can fit my fist plus the length of S2. None of the above cars are more spacious than Elantra so you may consider a Sylphy coz it should fit my both fist plus the length of S2 biggrin.gif

Just now went to Sg Pinang to test drive the 1.8L.
I will say its a bit dissapointing. Interior is too simple and plain. Engine is noisy when u go till 5k rpm. The accelerator pedal is kindda feels different. The touchscreen unit is not visible on a sunny day. Meaning on daytime u can hardly see anything on the HU.

So i went to look at the 1.6L HS and its just not worth the money.
Told m SA i dont want to buy hen his face straight change and terus tak layan me. Pass me a blank paper and ask me to write a letter to ask for refund. Bye Elantra....
*
Mind to share your alternative? biggrin.gif

does the elantra 1.6 from SD comes with the same engine as korean version? Korean Avante comes with 1.6GDI and 1.6 GDI Blue saver....
The SD Elantra says, Gamma 1.6 MPI D-CVVT

Are they the same?
*
Different. Worldwide Elantra (exclude parallel imported) is getting MPI engine and only South Korea gets GDi engine.

meaning.....they are using an older engine? Is Honda I-vtec and Toyota Dual VVT-I and Nissan CVTC using direct injection?
*
It is still a new engine just different technology. The Gamme and Nu with Dual-CVVT on Elantra is less than 2 years old. Honda, Toyota and Nissan did not use GDi engine in our market too.

And when open the door, is like everythng feel very loose.

the driver and passenger seat behind is a hard plastic, what is that damn thing?

i purposely try tear it put very softly, and it just easily open like this?? R u sure about the fixing is firmly screw?

Imagine if is some1 kid or noty boy go n tear it out.

Come on, this is a showroom car, how can display it with such minor thing did not properly

checked. I did not show it to any1 cuz i duwan spoilt every1 party. If is other buyer saw it. i duno wad will happened.
*
Actually using hard plastic behind the front seat is very common on luxury car. You can see that in many Merc, BMW or Audi models. smile.gif
I like the sound of the front door but not so with the rear. I didn't notice about the loose piece next time go see. tongue.gif

hard to say one... i think those with longer body and shorter legs, will feel very tight in the rear room.... where else leg long body short person will feel okay...

my friend is taller than me bout 2-3CM, but when we're both in the rear seats, i feel very clsoe to the roof, while my fren's one is still acceptable....

Door thump cannot compare with Civic at all....  doors hard plastic really big let down...

I feel 1.8 is not underpower at all... but car feel damn light.... almost wobbly compared to Civic 2.0.... rear passenger complain exhaust very loud when tekan at low speed (revving)...

and who said the NVH is good at the drivers seat needs to get their ears checked... i tested the Pug 308T and Civic 2.0 right after Elantra... and i feel NVH still a long way for the Elantra... do u agree?
*
NVH is not all about engine noise. Overall 308 is the best but tyre roar of Elantra is definitely much better than Civic. At higher rev Elantra is noisier than Civic but in normal driving I can't really tell any big difference between Elantra and Civic:P

erm... Civic new one comes with what tyre ah? Elantra one i saw is Continental... should be lauya one right?

Engine noise for the 1.8 is loud too... is like sikit sikit it tries to rev d.. so i feel when i try to give it a bit more power, it goes into 3500 - 4000, before upshifting from 3rd to 4th...

dunno why so slow to upshift?

does it not feel wobbly? and corners? like very light... don't dare to press, have to hard break.... Pug one most chun, tbh but interior too  "french" for my taste...

where else the Civic and Pug upshifts very smoothly...

sighz... now gotta try Mazda... last hope
*
I am not so sure with the tyre brand. but Elantra 1.8 one quite quiet for me oh. But too bad my 1.6 is NCT doh.gif
The gearbox of Elantra is very responsive so it will downshift once you deepen the gas. So you need to be gentle with the throttle biggrin.gif
Actually not body very light, all because of the steering coz there is no feedback at all. So it is down to your habit. I have used to their steering so i am fine with that. smile.gif

it really begs the question... 112K, is this price reasonable?

Inspira how many airbags?

Added on April 8, 2012, 9:03 pm

u mean nothing money can't solve....

bro if money not a concern for u.... plenty of other choice...

i think Elantra is great, the price just make me think at least 100 times more... if it's wise to really pull the trigger for this one....
*
Inspira 2 airbags biggrin.gif
If you think that 112k is too much to pay then you really should look elsewhere. maybe you are looking for better driving dynamics smile.gif

Some1 plz tell me, elantra is 100% better than Potong and vios, city~~~~~~~

i need something solid in Elantra!!!
*
Not 100% better than them coz elantra is less conservative and not as powerful^^
Handling may not be as good as some potong also because Elantra is all about comfort, design, fuel economy

Actually.. Elantra is decent in the looks department... nothing more le.. price, power, functions nothing to shout about... there are better ones else where.
*
Should try to look at which is more balanced right? Every car has their pros and cons.
Altis is powerful and fuel efficient but handle badly and quite tight inside also expensive. Civic also powerful and handles well but the ride is too firm for some and the powertrain is not as advanced. Sylphy very spacious but handles badly and lack of features. Mazda3 is powerful ,sporty and loaded with features but very tight back seat and quite noisy. For me Elantra is adequately powered, spacious, packed with features that met my need, very responsive gearbox and the ride is comfort enough although the engine is loud at higher rev, steering is very light and don't handle as well as Civic and Mazda3. So overall the car is quite balanced because there is nothing to shout for but also nothing very bad or lousy. And one of the very important factor is depending on your perception with the brand. I believe many people never own a korean car before so more or less there will be some weird feeling. smile.gif

Test drove the elantra 1.8 today, engine is quite loud, the brochure shows Garmin but real car uses papago. 2 airbags only?? Dashboard plastic feels, err, a little bit cheap.
*
No offence but i am puzzled wad makes u feel the dash plastics cheap?

yes... loud coz its revving at low speed (pick up)... got say its garmin meh?

dashboard top portion okay la... aircond downwards and the doors....  doh.gif
*
Door panel very hard. But did u notice the arm rest for all doors are padded. Other than sylphy the elantra should be the second car in this seg with padded door arm rest.

Dunno why the dashboard  doesnt feel as solid as the civic. Well actually i just quote what my mom said, she's driving a civic currently
*
Feeling is quite subjective. If you hear some rattles or noise when you press the dash then it is really not solid enough, sth i experienced on lancer but not yet on elantra.

Below spot is the hard plastic that did not fulfill my requirement.

Any1 go to showroom plz check for yourself.

I guarantee you will straight muntah darah. Try to knock it n see.

May i ask any1 of you here ,in your opinion, how would you define solid in elantra when open and close the door, with the sound "Gorbgggg"

I prefer wad i test on vw polo, whereby the door close with confidence and firm. Cuz it make you pull harder when you close the door.

Unfortunately, elantra does not response in this way. Try n c. Will like to see your comment
*
Actually the door mechanism or conti car is differrnt with asian. You will notice a distinct three steps opening in conti cars but not asian car. Tat why you need to pull harder bcoz of different design.

I think buy vw need to hv spare time as well. You wan service car need advance booking sometime full. Then if u unlucky ur dsg will always have problem. Quite common to see dsg malfunction.

+1. i think the selling point of civic back then was the revolutionary design that it evolved from the previous Hondas. civic was one of the few who had digital meter as well when it first launched and it can be considered the 'fluidic design' of that time  smile.gif i remembered everyone from friends to uncle aunty praising the design. of course right now, its all over the streets but somehow i feel the design is still up to par compared to most of the cars' designs today.

too bad, the new gen of civic needs a ultimate facepalm smile.gif
*
Maybe the car was too expensive to build. Thats why honda cut so many things on new car. Interior material, styling and even the organ type pedal.

was at VW showroom just now and yes, polo's door is damn solid and heavy for a car that small but interior too packed for a 181cm person like me.

German always rock solid one.

Comparing spec to spec... the financial-minded side of me would say no, but the designer side of me says yes.
Most people around me, including my parents do not think it's worth the extra 20k (for 2.0 vs 1.8).
