small event but the track is quite big, they are quite strict with where the photographer can go, we can only go to places where marshall is standing

I think the panning is quite normal, the one he played with the zoom ring I think different from the rest... here's what I think is good panning, shot by a friend of mine. He's a regular media pass holder at drift events under drift.com.my.

*
wow!! i got this effect too when i try 1/10s shutter but the car and the background blur together laugh.gif

another pic spam, get close and eat dust biggrin.gif

Yeap... as far as I know he goes for (really) low shutter shots... cause those average shots he got plenty of them d.. no point trying for something common right?  laugh.gif
*
next time i should try this, but sure will have a lot of bad shot laugh.gif

so far i can only pan properly with 1/60s or faster

1/50s still can but chance of success is low

just wonder how the panning work...

i know the basic panning...what if you panning when the car is turning the corner? the car angle sure changed already...so is it shootable? for that situation.
*
if daylight can la, use small aperture to get the depth of field, a little blur at the front and rear part of the car is okay one

you also wont pan for 1s, only around 1/50s to 1/100s the distance wont change by so much so it will be in the same focal plane

as we know from waterfall technique, slower shutter speed will make the water stack together/ or "after image" right?

i mean when the car turning steering on corner side... wont it become a piece of blur shape ?

or that panning is fast enough to prevent that?
*
If you stand in the inner bend of the corner then your focus might be out if you are using af-c because i found that it is not very good for object that is moving coser to you

If you pre-focus you might be able to get it in focus, especially when you are using f11 and above where the subject and background can be in focus together

To get the car clear and sharp, basically you need to follow the car in your viewfinder in the same position for as long as your shutter open

how you get so close? exif only show 300mm blink.gif

QUOTE(Calvin Seak @ May 11 2012, 12:22 PM)
hmm the camera doesnt know what is white unfortunately.. Maybe what happened was that you were using matrix metering and the camera was measuring the white balance as a whole .. the dark sky, maybe the tungsten street light and the light from the moon!

If you do see something white(ie your moon) Set your white balance to PRE and shoot at the moon to tell the camera that what you are currently shooting is WHITE and the camera will give the right white balance for sure happy.gif

I like this alot! biggrin.gif Arghhh Im so in love with sun sets!

best practice is to use PRE all the time and take a grey card wherever you go, that really save my processing time even though i shot raw thumbup.gif
