Added on May 3, 2012, 10:47 amThis was shot actually at 5kmph.. but looks like going at faster speed. Shutter speed was 1/30 of a second.


If you look at water drop photography, they use high shutter speed to freeze the water drop. The same concept applies. try go shooting at a water fountain. Try fast to slow shutter speeds, its easier to understand )

LOL not dangerous.. my camera was on a rig. attached to the car. worried for the 1st 5 mins only. Head out the door was last week.. with a super car.. lol. maybe will post that photo here later...

no need vr for panning, because it will be fighting with you to stabilize vertical and horizontally. where we will be moving horizontally. I also tried the 55-300 for panning with VR.. for me I swtich it off. I was told by my friend that Canon's IS can swtich on both axis or only one... maybe thats their secret

just before you pan, do a few mock swings, get comfortable. Track the object for a while before you hit the shutter. the effect is amplified if the subject is far, going very fast and you have a tele, most likely no need to slow the shutter down much. But if your on wide and the subject is close like go karts zipping by, even 1/60 shutter can give some effects already. Hard to describe in text, best is to go out there and shoot. Find your sweet spot.

U can try going to GRA Round 1 this sunday at shah alam car park W4 not as glamour as SuperGT but u can to try out some panning and see some cool driving skills. Entrance to see is free.

You can go as close as the race marshals allow. Any closer you might jeopardize your safety, in event of an accident. Its best to have 80-200 range for easier selection of angles.. on 85 probably u have to walk around to get nice angle.


yes its free to view.. 150 per entry if you wanna sign up and race bro. The lotus I posted here earlier was shot on 80-200 at 200 end, filled up the whole frame (a bit too tight I think). So can get up quite close.

cannot get inside the track one la. later if anything happen will create problem for them. Im sure u will kena halau by race marshals if you try haha. Just stay behind the lines or go shoot some of the RQ's there

I didnt say gt super cars.. and u said u wanted to practice panning.

yea. because safety reasons. cannot have any complains or issues about safety at all. Still small events nicer I think. Less ppl fighting for angle xD
