I think one of the best ways to create awareness is to write a Letter to the STAR editor together with the pics. It also worthwhile to contact Segambut MP LIM Lip Eng seeking and seek an audience with DBKL. For those of you here who are aspiring writers etc etc can start the ball rolling asap. Time is running out.

Ok...doing my part for the cause...

Below is my email to Dato Raja Nong Chik, which I cc Jabatan Lanskap. I ve also forwarded this to a journalist friend. If you think you want to use this email to reach out...please do so...its not the most perfect email but its definitely the most honest one ...(my England so so la)

Dear Dato’,

I would like to bring your attention to the recent development/master plan taking place in Bukit Kiara Kuala Lumpur.

I believe you are aware that Landscape Department has proceeded to fence a number of areas within Bukit Kiara. I hope you do realize that Bukit Kiara has been a home to many walkers, joggers, trail runners and mountain bikers. It is the only place within KL city that still maintains its natural beauty and is still free for the public. The intangible benefits this area has given to us can not be underestimated.

People wanting to spend quality time with their family, people wanting to keep fit, people wanting to loose weight, people who appreciate nature … all come to Bukit Kiara week in and week out. As you can see…people, people and people really appreciate this place.

Kiara has always been a safe heaven for many of us who are trying to escape the mad city life of KL. We look forward every weekend to explore Bukit Kiara, for your information there is about 15 trails within the area, one would hardly notice as the trail were seamlessly develop to preserve its natural beauty. Seldom do we feel sad coming back from Bukit Kiara, however this all changed last weekend.

Please take a look at the pictures of how the destruction is taking place. Hardly any effort was made to ensure minimal damage to Bukit Kiara and knowing full well there are people running and biking in the area no proper signage were put up, which could have resulted in people getting injured.

Just last weekend a group of Singaporeans charted an entire bus just to cycle in Bukit Kiara… People from all over the world travel to Bukit Kiara appreciating the trail. Just refer to this article http://home-team.pinkbike.com/blog/Riding-in-Malaysia.html and you will see what I mean. Nobody had to spend a single cent to get these tourist here…no F1 race track, no twin towers required…just good old nature and what have we done to the place?

Dato, please take time and look at the pictures I have attached in this email. It pains a lot of us especially the mountain bikers when we see this happening to our beloved Kiara. I say beloved because that’s how majority of us feel for this place. This is one of the rare places where the trail was hand built by riders who at the same time took a lot of effort to preserve Bukit Kiara’s natural state.

Imagine your kampong…a place you always look forward at every visit…suddenly being destroyed and fenced up. We are so good at destroying things that are given to us for free, why is this happening? This is a privilege that we are throwing away…for what? There are better ways to monitor and look after the area. Fencing is definitely not one of it.

Dato,

Appreciate if you can please look into this. We certainly look forward to your kind assistance on this matter. Please not just the cyclist, everyone needs this place.

“The human spirit needs places where nature has not been rearranged by the hand of man.”

Salam.

Thank you.

But what s the point of having all the bling if you have no trail to ride .... cry.gif
You paddle all the way up the pondok ...then mount it on the trees...talk cock... then ride down back to bikewash ...via tarmac..sigh

Well written and hopefully this will stir up some public interest. The next thing to do is actually lodge an official complain of which DBKL is obligated to resolve under whatever circumstances. This is their policy as it affects KPI's and complains needs to be closed by the complainee.

hi to all the MTbikers here.
One of my friend is offering me a used Giant Yukon FX frame and a new magura MM 100XC fork for RM1600,is it a good buy? The frame is almost mint, with a slight scratch only. From my understanding, the XC at the fork is stands for cross country rite?what is the different in bike specs between XC and DH bike?
thanks in advance..
