I love Rafa, I think he's a brilliant modern manager and very underrated in the general football world. People often forget that for a manager, he was actually quite young when he took over Liverpool. He made us one of the teams to be feared in Europe (Always look forward to waking up to European nights because they're always special) and built one of the best spine in Reina-Agger-Carra-Alonso-Masch-Gerrard-Torres. The surprising (And perhaps, endearing) attribute of Rafa is that for a foreigner, he seems to understand what Liverpool is all about. He obviously cares about the club a lot
Still, he was not without weakness and days where headless chickens run against the likes of Stoke were typical even in the best of Rafa's vintage. People talk about how we are wasteful with chances this season but during Rafa's bad days, we bemoan of the fact that we play with 2 'holding midfielders', lack of creativity on the wings and Torres being isolated.
Having that said, no manager's perfect. Only the ones who get the backing from the club, players and fans will succeed. Which is why whilst I love the prospects of Rafa returning, I will back King Kenny as long as he believes in his ability in taking the club to the next level.
I love Rafa as well. I think he could have achieved alot more if it wasn't for the two stupid owners and got proper backing instead. After all, he did bring us to four major finals in his first three years. We'd also probably have two Premier League titles by now. The only downside with that spine he built ... we didn't win anything with Alonso, Mascherano and Torres even though that is defintely the best team we had in the last 5 years! People always say he's a very defensive manager and all that but we scored the most goals in the 2008/2009 with a +50 goal difference.
He was a very stubborn manager, though, and not exactly the best man-manager but like you said, no manager is perfect. He doesn't say 'well done' but instead, he'll mention what you did wrong to improve you. Hence, his lack of reaction when we score or win but that's just how Rafa is. I remember after we thumped Real Madrid 4-0 .. all he said was "We played well" but i bet alot of us were like 'SHIT, we were fcking brilliantly unplayable".
That's what I like about him as well - the fact that he understood the culture, history and tradition of the club. The same way Kenny Dalglish understands the club but certainly not Roy Hodgson.
However, right now, King Kenny has my backing and I feel there is no better man to lead the Reds especially what we have gone through in the last 2 years and at the moment.
