I love Rafa, I think he's a brilliant modern manager and very underrated in the general football world. People often forget that for a manager, he was actually quite young when he took over Liverpool. He made us one of the teams to be feared in Europe (Always look forward to waking up to European nights because they're always special) and built one of the best spine in Reina-Agger-Carra-Alonso-Masch-Gerrard-Torres. The surprising (And perhaps, endearing) attribute of Rafa is that for a foreigner, he seems to understand what Liverpool is all about. He obviously cares about the club a lot

Still, he was not without weakness and days where headless chickens run against the likes of Stoke were typical even in the best of Rafa's vintage. People talk about how we are wasteful with chances this season but during Rafa's bad days, we bemoan of the fact that we play with 2 'holding midfielders', lack of creativity on the wings and Torres being isolated.

Having that said, no manager's perfect. Only the ones who get the backing from the club, players and fans will succeed. Which is why whilst I love the prospects of Rafa returning, I will back King Kenny as long as he believes in his ability in taking the club to the next level. smile.gif

I love Rafa as well. I think he could have achieved alot more if it wasn't for the two stupid owners and got proper backing instead. After all, he did bring us to four major finals in his first three years. We'd also probably have two Premier League titles by now.

The only downside with that spine he built ... we didn't win anything with Alonso, Mascherano and Torres even though that is defintely the best team we had in the last 5 years! People always say he's a very defensive manager and all that but we scored the most goals in the 2008/2009 with a +50 goal difference.

He was a very stubborn manager, though, and not exactly the best man-manager but like you said, no manager is perfect. He doesn't say 'well done' but instead, he'll mention what you did wrong to improve you. Hence, his lack of reaction when we score or win but that's just how Rafa is. I remember after we thumped Real Madrid 4-0 .. all he said was "We played well" but i bet alot of us were like 'SHIT, we were fcking brilliantly unplayable".

That's what I like about him as well - the fact that he understood the culture, history and tradition of the club. The same way Kenny Dalglish understands the club but certainly not Roy Hodgson.

However, right now, King Kenny has my backing and I feel there is no better man to lead the Reds especially what we have gone through in the last 2 years and at the moment.

Anyways, Doni's red card appeal has been rejected. So, no Doni or Reina.

Maybe Suarez should play in goal. Good with his hands and apparently he dives too!!!

QUOTE(Duke Red @ Apr 13 2012, 05:36 PM)
Johan Cruyff as Director of Football? Interesting prospect indeed. What can be bring to Liverpool? Well the Dutch were the inventors of Total Football and Cruyff was one of the most famous exponents of this philosophy that was introduced by Rinus Michels. In short...
Also, Ajax has one of the best youth academies in the world, De Toekomst (which translates as 'the future') academy. Here's a short video. http://www.uefa.com/trainingground/grassro...id=1562470.html

Thirdly, a name as big as Johan Cruyff, we will surely attract some of the best players from around the globe.

The thing is, there isn't a specific job scope for the role. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Director_of_football
*
Exactly.

He implemented the system that Barcelona are currently having. I think he revamped the whole la masia academy and after about 20 years, we are finally seeing the results. Xavi, Iniesta, Messi, Pique, Tello, Cuenca, Pedro, Valdes, Puyol, Reina, Fabregas, Arteta and Thiago are some of them who benefit from it.

I know 20 years is long for any of us to see those results in Liverpool but the job at Melwood already started under Rafa.

A man like Johan Cruyff would bring alot of good things but even if he doesn't come, it's not a problem.

I hope we are still alive in 20years time.I know i will biggrin.gif

But I don't think we'd want to see Liverpool not win a league title for another 20 years!!

QUOTE(Rotuham @ Apr 13 2012, 06:35 PM)
If i am not mistaken tiki-taka had some influence from liverpool's pass and move right?
*
Noooooooo .. Johan Cruyff got the tiki-taka idea when he watched the Liverpool teams of the 1970s to 1980s!!! tongue.gif

QUOTE(hfi @ Apr 13 2012, 07:01 PM)
Well the liverpool's pass and move is not all that different really. The objective is the same - to be dominate in possession and to move the ball around as fluid as possible. When Shankly's team lost to Ajax, he decided to tweak our style of football to more continental style.

The tiki-taka tho is pretty much a tweaked version of the football Cruyff brought to Barca - which back then was a tweaked version of Rinus's total football.

If you look at the way total football works and how it perceive talents, in theory it can work wonderfully with the concept of moneyball. For instance, most clubs in England would fail to value a talent like Messi because they would say he doesnt have the physique and quality to endure the intensity of the premier league. But Barca kept him and gave him all the medical support he needed to flourish and flourish he did and still does.
*
Agreed. I think it's still very much possible in the Premier League though. Arsenal play some of the nicest football in the past and in the 1980s, the Liverpool team who played the same way consisted of many players who were rather small.

What time is tomorrow's kickoff anyway?

Added on April 13, 2012, 7:42 pm

Skrtel has been a revelation this season. Agger has brought out the best in him.
*
12.30 noon here so it's 7.30 pm.

It's no doubt that Skrtel-Agger are our immediate future. No coincidence that Skrtel's form dipped in the last month when Carragher came back beside him. I love Carra and all but i hate the fact he likes hoofing the ball. At least Skrtel looks for a man like Bellamy against Rovers before the first goal or Torres against United in 2008/2009 or at least his 'hoof' reaches a man!

Agger .. probably the closest we've got to Hansen. Brings another dimension to the team when he's on the pitch and I can't wait to see him smash one from 25 yards at the Kop End. Love the lad till i have his name on my shirt!!

nobody seems to care about this video.huhu  cry.gif
*
I saw that video. I think alot of people forget he's only 20 years old. I think he's more of a Steven Gerrard type of player than Jordan Henderson actually is.

Jonjo Shelvey's going to be some player in the future, IMO. He has alot of potential and he's been showing that for about a year or two now.

QUOTE(Duke Red @ Apr 13 2012, 09:10 PM)
Well for all the hoofing he still has a 78% pass completion ratio smile.gif

I've been a fan of Agger from the get-go. He's been a little unlucky with injuries and it befuddled me that Hodgson didn't want to play him. I was upset to have heard that he was going to leave for AC Milan but thankfully Kenny saw in him what only Hodgson did not. How "one of the most respected managers in Europe" didn't recognise the talent of what I rate as one of the best centre backs in Europe is beyond me.

Added on April 13, 2012, 9:10 pmPs: Adryan. That pic looks damn gay
*
Yea, a man of '35 years of experience' can't spot quality!!

I was really afraid Agger would be sold when Roy was in charge. Luckily Kenny rates him. Love how he brings the ball out of defence and having said that, he's made a huge difference in the last two games he has come on as a substitute.

WTF, why big game winner like Kuyt on bench?
*
No idea but I guess it's pretty obvious that Kuyt and Maxi have fallen down the pecking order.

QUOTE(Rotuham @ Apr 14 2012, 06:43 PM)
I really wonder what carragher and downing did to deserve a starting a place today ahead of maxi and enrique today.
Enrique has been poor recently but not as bad as carragher.

We have lost all the games carragher has started after the carling cup final.
*
I think Kenny wants Carra in the squad because he'd excel in these kind of games. As for Enrique, I agree about him being dropped. Doesn't deserve to be starting and I'd even have Agger there before him at the moment.

Well, Henderson is like Kuyt in terms of running like a headless chikcen majority of the game but has a better touch!

Some people say it's Carragher at right back, Johnson at Left back with Agger and Skrtel in the centre.

Added on April 14, 2012, 6:58 pmOr a 3-5-2 with Johnson and Downing out wide but that's unlikely. tongue.gif

QUOTE(RedSiglap56 @ Apr 14 2012, 07:08 PM)
Suarez said that calmness and intelligence are more important factors than passion tonight. Although I don't think he's a very calm player himself, I think he's right that passion alone is insufficient.

That's why I'm disappointed that Carra is starting again. I agree that Enrique should not start but why not Coates?

I'm not keen about both Gerrard and Henderson. I feel that Spearing and Shelvey should be in and Maxi should start ahead of Carroll.

Oh well, KD is the man. I hope he's right!...for his own sake!

True but you know Gerrard and Carragher ... how much they want to beat Everton. I actually think Henderson has played well in the last two games so he deserves to keep his place but I would have preferred Maxi/Kuyt over Downing because Downing does not deserve a place and honestly, I'm happy with Carroll there. He will take some attention away from Suarez because Suarez suffers when he's up front alone. I would love to see Shelvey, Spearing and Coates as well but I guess Kenny wanted experience in the side.

QUOTE(skyz @ Apr 14 2012, 07:09 PM)
With carra and hendo on the right, our right flank is basically zero offensive...  But hey, who knows hendo play his best game ever in Liverpool shirt today... Go you reds! Let's earn ourselves a third visit to wembley!
*
Yeah, it is. A pity that Kelly is unavailable. Henderson has played well in the last two games so he may be alright tonight.
