On this day, was the FA Cup semi final between Liverpool and Nottingham.
Liverpudlians went to watch their beloved team in action at Hillsborough and 96 of them never returned. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1ADuaiFE0Q RIP the 96. JFT96 and YNWA. We missed you on the Kop. And as usual, the memorial service will be held at Anfield and you can follow it for free on LFCtv online. |

QUOTE(Duke Red @ Apr 15 2012, 06:49 PM) What time is it on over there mate? It starts at 2.30 pm (9.30 malaysian time). Just about 2.5 hours more Sad isn't it? As time goes by, more and more will forget or will not have heard about it. It is the duty of those that do to enlighten those that don't. This is an incident so close to the heart of Liverpool fans. I was touched to see Rafa shed tears during last year's memorial service even though he was no longer at the club. Here is the footage again. Winning the Champions League made him a legend but it is his continued support for Hillsborough that has etched his name in Liverpool folklore. It is sad indeed. It's even more saddening that you and I were the only ones who posted 'RIP 96/ JFT96' here. Yeah, Rafa Benitez may have his flaws as a manager but as a person and a man, you've got to take your hat off for him. He isn't a Liverpudlian but he's an honorary scouser and he truly understands the club, it's tradition, culture and history. Wouldn't be surprised if he attends the service today again. And man, Kenny Dalglish certainly deserves knighthood for what he did post-Hillsborough. |

QUOTE(Angel of Deth @ Apr 16 2012, 05:43 AM) To call any club as plastic and classless are way overboard. There are thousands of their supporter follow the team before Roman era. I know some of them were following since more than a decade ago at the time they were nothing compared to Manchester United, Nottingham Forest, Liverpool etc. I assume this whole "classless and plastic" stigma came after Roman era, as many people claim Chelsea bought their success. If i was a Chelsea supporter, i will feel offended. No matter how bad the minority of their fan is, always remember there are still thousands of good people that respect the moment of silence prior to the kick off. To be honest, why should they feel offended if they really had supported the club? It's only the glory hunters and day trippers that should feel offended and alot of them appear since 2003. I'm just saying, 96 football fans never came home following their football club, even the commentator said the least they could do is pay some respects to those who died.Actually the plastics came about when they the club gave each of their fans a plastic flag for one of the Champions League tie a few years ago!! Scousers call them plastics. No way more offended when other fans call us racists, murderers or hooligans. This post has been edited by Adryan: Apr 16 2012, 06:05 AM |

QUOTE(Angel of Deth @ Apr 16 2012, 06:28 AM) Your sentences could be better, Chelsea fans here in LYN are generally good people. They're not sticking their nose on other club's affair. Those on the stadia were minority; maybe they were just ignorant, drunk or simply doesn't care. At least the club have the balls to make public apology. True enough. I have to apologise, though, cause i sometimes get carried away because I hang around alot on a Liverpool forum that consists of English people so yeah ...As the glory hunter thing, i can't really comment comment. Already have long history with that particular discussion on an explicit thread. But don't call them plastic as we all probably the same; follow the most commercialize league in the world. Scousers will always call them plastic, because they can. Afterall, they're native. As for the glory hunter thing, we were probably all the same at one point as it's normal for people to hear about the team that is doing well but don't you find it weird for a person to claim to be a fan of a club for years but doesn't even know when the club was formed?! Anyways, something more related to Liverpool FC .. Luis Suárez confirms he will be staying at Liverpool after star showing in FA Cup semi-final Luis Suárez celebrated his semi-final goal by confirming he will be staying at Liverpool beyond this season. By Chris Bascombe 10:00PM BST 15 Apr 2012 Concerns about the striker’s future were raised after his suspension following the Patrice Evra affair, especially as Paris St Germain made their interest known. Suárez’s contract negotiations are continuing with the club and he was emphatic when asked about his future. “Yes, yes I will continue at Liverpool,” he said. “It is obvious I will continue. I have four years left on my contract and I am very happy and content to be here and I hope good things continue.” Asked about the fall-out from his eight-match ban, Suárez said: “I am over that. Obviously the important thing was the support from all the people and there is no need to talk about that as it is already in the past. "Obviously one has to be used to all this. A lot of things happen in football. It’s difficult and it’s complicated but you have to deal with it.” Suárez’s family were at Wembley to see his equalising goal against Everton. “My joy was for my wife and my daughter and my sister and niece who came from Uruguay and my father-in-law who came from Barcelona,” Suárez said. “They made a huge effort to be here so my joy was for all the sacrifices they make for me not to mention of course the sacrifices by all the people from Liverpool and all the support they’ve given us despite not having good moments in recent times.” http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/...semi-final.html |

QUOTE(Duke Red @ Apr 16 2012, 10:44 AM) Here's how I'll sum up the weekend. 1. The first half against Everton was terrible but at least the players came out with the right attitude. We only took control after Suarez equalised. Tim Cahill said we were fortunate to get two lucky goals but he forgotten than Everton also got a lucky goal. Suarez was awesome and Downing started to play better when he went on the right. I think everyone can be proud of their performance on that day.1) Fantastic result over Everton. I say so because even though our tactics were a little questionable in the first half, we adjusted in the second by pushing Stevie further forward, having Suarez play more central instead of out wide and having Downing swap wings with Henderson for the whole half. 2) Chuffed for Carroll. Missed an open goal but made ammends when it mattered. Showed good work ethic by chasing down balls, and even displayed a willingness to play the ball with his feet instead of laying it off immediately. May be blamed for a lack of effort all this while but in this game, he tried. 3) Gutted for Carra. Not all his fault though. Agger should have cleared it first time and neither player took responsibility. His failure to pick up Jelavic in the second half almost led to a goal. Thankfully, the Croat put it into the side netting. Not one of his better games in a red shirt by far. 4) Very nice gesture from Everton, whose fans brought with them a wreath to honour the fallen 96. Many Liverpool fans will testify that the rivaly which has produced the most red cards of any derby in England, though competitive, has become a friendly one after the support that Everton fans showed after 15th April 1989. 5) Happy Birthday Rafa Benitez. 6) Learned not to take jibes from a certain Scotsman too seriously in future (http://www.thisisanfield.com/2012/04/ferguson-the-hypocrite-strikes-again/) Added on April 16, 2012, 10:48 amIn regards to the classless Chelsea fans at this morning's semi-final, here's a first hand account. Seems it was only a small group of them to be fair. 2. What i liked about Carroll is he didn't put his head down after missing 3 chances. He kept on trying, worked hard and got his reward at the end. 3. Yep, Agger and Carra should share the blame but I tell you, if it was Agger who did not want to kick it, Carra would have been all over him. Since Carra didn't shout at Agger or anything, I would assume he asked Agger to leave it and then lost his composure. 4. Hats off the Everton fans. While there will always be rivalry across Stanley Park, we become a family in times like these. Also, I would like to give a mention to Brad Jones. He went through a tough year, losing his son last November. Got a place in the starting eleven because of suspensions to Doni and Pepe and he hardly put a foot wrong all game. The goal isn't his fault. Also knows he will become 2nd/3rd choice after the weekend but is proud to be part of the team anyway. Also became a dad last week. Top top man and I love the end where the players went to hug him. He deserves it. Got this from LFCreds. About the Chelsea thing ... well ... it's the third time in 6 months the club has had to come out with a statement. That says alot. ![]() ![]() ![]() http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fk5cIIPMZm4...player_embedded Doesn't seem like it's 20 ppl. QUOTE(solstice818 @ Apr 16 2012, 01:29 PM) On another note, just wanted to point out that when Suarez won us penalty with minimal contact, it's dive... When it's young deliberately put his leg wide to have contact and won them penalty, it's called " even there is little contact, that's still a penalty" Ridiculous, isn't it?And this is the same man, trying to dive all over the park in a space of one week, winning 2 penalties. What a bunch of hypocrites. I think they start getting tons of penalties towards the last few games of the season every season!! How is anyone else going to win the league when they get spot kicks week in, week out. And Ferguson has all the nerve to brand Suarez a diver!!! And in the last week or so, there were calls for penalties which should have been penalties but referees ignore Suarez because he has been branded a 'diver' by Ferguson This post has been edited by Adryan: Apr 16 2012, 06:25 PM |

QUOTE(bitebug @ Apr 16 2012, 06:08 PM) If we want to win the cup, we shouldn't start Carragher. No really..... Kenny needs to give credits where it's due. Agger+Skrtel is the way to go now. Even Coates I think is in front of Carragher in term of picking order. I agree. Agger is no left back and Carragher scares me when he's on the pitch. I know he's a legend and all that but you can't be picking players because of that. I wouldn't mind Enrique back or even Johnson on the left with Kelly on the right.Everyone wants to play in the FA Cup final so I hope the league games till then, everyone will play their best and we finally win more games, lol. |

QUOTE(bitebug @ Apr 16 2012, 06:18 PM) I think Ramires will be on the right and Mata on the left for the game. We need pace to guard these two. Enrique/Kelly+Johnson can provide covers but we still need someone to hold the centre for us and I don't think Carragher can do that. Against creative wingers like Mata, Carra simply doesn't have the defensive brain and body to halt him anymore. Mata tends to switch his play to the middle and right sometimes with Torres/Drogba going to the wing so they'll definitely be problems. Yeap. I'd be tempted to throw in Bellamy/Kuyt as the wide players simply because they will close them down. Downing doesn't really help his fullback. But could be worse, I guess, we could have faced Lennon and Bale!!Enrique+Downing are threatening but I simply hate Enrique tendency to hog the ball for too long. Plus, his cross aren't effective but we have Downing for that. He has been delivering nice crosses for the last few games. Henderson definitely can't start on the right with Johnson. Either Bellamy or Kuyt should be given the chance. Bellamy is on form and Kuyt has scored some of the most important goals for us. I think Torres will definitely start and we might need Agger to deliver a sucker punch once more |

Asked if he would swap success in the FA Cup and Carling Cup for a Champions League place, Dalglish replied: "No. I'd take the cup results and try to improve the league results. I'd never take away winning cup competitions."
Spot on, Kenny. |

QUOTE(Rotuham @ Apr 16 2012, 08:35 PM) As manager you don't expect him to say ''yes of course, the cups are only a moment in the sunshine. We are only giving importance because we are out of the race for fourth'' do you? Well, how about .. he's learnt enough from Shankly and Paisley to know which is more important to the club??QUOTE(demio121 @ Apr 16 2012, 10:48 PM) If KD say yes, we'll be seeing the last of him. I dun mind d cup while we r at the final but not wif swapping CL for Carling & FA Yeah. I would be happy with two cups at the moment. It's always trophies for me first and foremost but I don't want to always forgo Champions League just for the cups.-------------------------------------------------------- Anyways, Martin Skrtel is not even nominated for PFA player of the year. He's been so immense!! I mean, even Clint Dempsey deserve to be there ahead of Scott Parker. QUOTE(prophetjul @ Apr 17 2012, 08:17 AM) Nothing from the money grabber Torress surprises me anymore........ The 'plastic' tag came, IMO, from the fact that the club had to give out plastic flags to 'create an atmosphere' during one of the Champions League ties, if I remember. The git just has NO class et al compared with Babel...... Of PLASTICS??? ![]() ![]() AND the Class-less Torress banner! This is the tOPS! ![]() ![]() That Torres banner is so funny .. the Chelsea fans even left the Shankly Gates there!!! And, of course, they are singing the same song for him but with different lyrics. Talk about originality. |
