To be frank, changing palm oil to olive oil does not reduce your cholesterol intake if you cook with the same amount of whichever oil. Reducing cholesterol works if you choose your food properly on the whole on not only changing which type of oil. As long as it is vege based like sunflower seed oil, corn oil, olive oil or even palm oil, they are the same as long as you don't use animal fat oil. Take more white meat, reduce your 'pun fei sau' pork and eat only lean meat and eats lots of fruits and vegetables. You can find more tips from the net.

Changing to olive oil is negligible, why buy expensive oil and does not suit your taste but having the same characteristics as palm oil. hmm.gif

mind telling me wat brand is it? how does it taste like? fruity? bitter?
as of preserving young looking.. i think it is more attributed to its polyphenol's antioxidant property.. which i think u shld opt for d supplement type or choose d more bitter olive oil.. jz my 2 cents.. since i m targeting different benefit.. wink.gif

What do u use for the extra virgin olive oil? Cooking? Dipping bread? On salad?

Last few years i did use Basso. But i wanted to try different brands. Then, Colavita. And now, Monte Verde. Normally i use extra virgin olive oil for my salad dressing and my pasta cooking. I don't think that EVOO would taste the same for the chinese cooking. By the way, i use Grapeseed Oil for my chinese cooking because of health benefits.

Pungent? Maybe that's how EVOO smells to your nose? blink.gif

Spanish EVOO, not yet. Maybe some day. Grapeseed oil from Justlife and Country Farm Organics. My parents bought in a special discount price because they're regular customers for years. If EVOO not suit your tastebud, u should choose, maybe Canola or Sunflower Oil?

It also depends how u use them for your food.

I used to do that as well, until I read that it is not healthy to do so.
EVOO only reduces cholesterol as a SUBSTITUTE for more harmful oil.

I maybe wrong, but please do more research before continuing.

I think what happened was your Olive Oil wasn't stored properly
Especially Malaysia weather so hot and humid,
If not stored in cool & dark places it will taste real weird/rancid.

There are a few variety of olive used in olive oil extraction, each with distinguish flavours. Most olive oils sold are blended of a few variety of olive oil. As extra virgin olive oil is unrefined except cold pressed, flavour is natural compared with processed palm oil which flavour is neutral. Hence, extra virgin olive oil from the same manufacturer could be different in colour and flavour. Single variety and low acidity is only available from speciality shops. Like single malt whisky, some people like and some don’t.

Any cooking oil can be used in frying up to smoke point e.g. extra virgin olive oil about 200C, palm oil 235C. Most deep frying temperature is below 180C, so extra virgin oil is suitable but a lot more expensive than palm oil.

French use a lot of butter for cooking and their life expectancy is longer than Malaysians.

Guys,
I also want to say something about it, I think what occurred was your Olive Oil wasn't saved effectively
Especially Malaysia climate so hot and moist,
If not saved in awesome & black locations it will flavor actual weird rancid...

If you can't take EVOO, go for normal olive oil. Taste milder but still has the olive fragrance.

You won't be able to use EVOO to cook anyway.

Also keep in mind that all plant products, including peanuts, coconut, durian and avocadoes do not contain cholesterol.

I recommend taking olive oil since it contains essential organic oil which is healthy and also it is unsaturated.

I always use Basso cos it's the most affordable of all EVOO brands. tongue.gif

To me, olive oil is an acquired taste. The liking for it develops over time. When I first started out, I found the taste weird, but have since developed a strong liking for olive oil. I use it for all Western cooking (pasta, roast potatoes, etc) and for dips with bread. For usual cooking I normally use sunflower seed oil or other healthy oils.

Look for 'cold pressed via mechanical means, 1st extract', its the best.
I hv used colavita regularly, recently buy basso, find no difference.
Good evoo gives a bit of kick in the throat.

Guys, does anyone here know anything about peanut oil? Bought a bottle at Tesco recently. It was the only the bottle of its kind on the shelves...haha. I find it tastes nice with basic sauteed dishes, as well as when mixed raw with ginger and garlic and used as a dipping sauce for white steamed/boiled chicken.
