Hi all fishing SIFUs...
I'm new to this hobby.
so hope you guys can share some tips and pointers with a beginner...
I had just caught the 1st fish, a 1.9kg Patin @ Sri Petaling Pay Pond.. blush.gif
and I find this hobby really addictive... thumbup.gif

my current weapon of choice, a el-cheapo 6' rod, with Tica GC3059...
should be ok for a beginner rite?

I've been using those brown dedak stuff to fish..
Can I use live crickets to fish in those pay ponds as well?

how do I choose the quality of lines to buy?
any specific brands you'd recommend for pay pond fishing?
Every little details helps me a lot at this stage... icon_question.gif

errr .. 13lb lines fish at the sri petaling pond more than enuff laa .. AFAIK patin there big big oso around 5-6kg only .. some of us here using 6lb-10lb .. can naik 6-7kg patin no probs .. 13lb for sure no probs one laa .. just play with the fish abit and tire it out instead of pulling it in straightaway helps ..
oso check your knot tying .. most probably your knot there break laa ..

i use SUFIX mono lines .. ultraknot and synergy .. depending on location and type/size of fish .. japanese mono lines are really soft and thin but not advisable to keep jap lines in car all the time coz they degrade quicker ..

i oso use bread for patin .. sometimes i use other stuff like dedaks la .. most natural and accessible places FOC ones all hunted down already and no much fish left .. the other alternative is go paypond that is cheap lorr ..

hi tinkerfy....

i'm also not really pro in fishing, try to answer ur question here..

As you mean the eagle brand powder if u refer to Sri Petaling paypond, u can purchase it from the counter.... its a "dedak" or ppl refer it as " hong/bomb" ...

yes .. those red/brown/green coloured stuff are available at pay ponds and oso at tackle shops ... different colurs = diff flavour ..
try to knead it using the pond water .. coz the tap water will have smell or chlorine and other chemicals foreign to the pond and the fish might not like it .. hehehehe ..
