Hi all fishing SIFUs...
I'm new to this hobby.
so hope you guys can share some tips and pointers with a beginner...
I had just caught the 1st fish, a 1.9kg Patin @ Sri Petaling Pay Pond.. blush.gif
and I find this hobby really addictive... thumbup.gif

my current weapon of choice, a el-cheapo 6' rod, with Tica GC3059...
should be ok for a beginner rite?

I've been using those brown dedak stuff to fish..
Can I use live crickets to fish in those pay ponds as well?

hi tinkerfy....

i'm also not really pro in fishing, try to answer ur question here..

As you mean the eagle brand powder if u refer to Sri Petaling paypond, u can purchase it from the counter.... its a "dedak" or ppl refer it as " hong/bomb" ...
*
i manged to get some from the local aquarium shop... but at RM5 for 500gm packet...
but nevermind lar.. noob price mar..

QUOTE(QiW @ Jan 2 2007, 12:04 PM)
yes .. those red/brown/green coloured stuff are available at pay ponds and oso at tackle shops ... different colurs = diff flavour ..
try to knead it using the pond water .. coz the tap water will have smell or chlorine and other chemicals foreign to the pond and the fish might not like it .. hehehehe ..
*
hmm.. that's probably why no fish ate my bait yesterday... thanks for the tip!!
will do next round and try bread as well... smile.gif

I spoke to some custmers at RHA and they mentioned that those big toman mommas, you'd need to land them in about 5 minutes or less, cos after that, they will start to hide in thick roots at the bottom and chances of getting your lure back would be close to zero...

well said sifu tinkerfly. rclxms.gif ..thats the reason why i need a heavy setup in the 1st place. laugh.gif , to stop those hot mommas from running back to their playground and hop onto a merry-do-round with my lure in their mouth  rclxub.gif  coz i ain't want any of my trairao or smith froggie sitting on the merry-go-round.  shocking.gif  shakehead.gif

sifu? hahaha maybe in 5 years lar...
i've only started fishing for a month..
now still in deep poison stage... sweat.gif

i'm planning to get a Daiwa Alphas and a medium fast action rod for my baitcasting outfit...
what lures should I get? any brands in particular?
wanna aim for haruan/toman/Peacock bass...
saw the prices at RHA kinda steep, compared to Tightlines.. unsure.gif

ah, sifu tinkerfly eyeing on daiwa alphas eh,  brows.gif  its a good choice there, do try to opt for the ALPHAS 103/103L(not type F) for its CRBB feature or maybe u might wanna take a look at abu garcia revo casting reel too for their powerful drag system. RHA or Tightlines..no comment here.. smile.gif ..but i can advise u 1 thing, if you have time, pay a visit to both shop and ask their staff's assistance for both reels, throw them any questions that u can think of..e.g. performance, reel characteristic, after sales service, warranty and etc..justify yourself which shop have a more friendlier staffs and after sales service..after all u need some after sales service for that reel rite? btw..throw ur lure questions to them too..i'm sure they have some lure to meet ur requirement..  laugh.gif

personally i won't mind paying 10 - 20 bucks extra but in return getting friendly staff and friendly after sales service .nope guys..its not a hint in anyhow way..hehe..hope i'm standing in a neutral ground..  whistling.gif  tongue.gif
aiya, went out field work today.  cry.gif i wish i could fish too laugh.gif
*
thanks for your advise... most ppl i spoke to at RHA condemn the Revo series.. said the gear very easy to koyak..
then they poison me get Alphas 103.. doh.gif

went to Sri Petaling Paypond just now...
One bite also dun have..
only manage to catch some other ppl's bomb hooks.. sweat.gif
but got one macha caught a momma patin, about 3 feet long.. should weigh more than 8kg...
for 3 hours, only 2-3 fish was landed by others..
extremely quiet night for fishes..
will try again sunday morning... anyone wanna join me and can teach me some techniques? willing to buy breakfast.. thumbup.gif

They wont rampas but they will just halau.the tackle owner shop says its best to go from 8pm coz they wont really notice..
8pm?
park rangers will halau everyone out at 6pm and clear the area by 7pm...
unless you have permit to camp there lar..

today went to Sri Petaling from 9:00 - 3pm..
had to strikes, but suddenly line just snap at swivel...
wonder why... never happened before..
I have been using the same knot since i started fishing..
must have either almost caught a momma fish.. or something wrong with the line... operator told me could be a "Wan Yu"
and don't bother going to sri petaling liao..
cos the operator said many have complaint that they did not catch any fish..
