Bro Tinkerfly, casting light lures have to match with your rod...you need the rod's flick to cast at nominal distance.
What was your rod rating?
yup.. i noticed liao.. that's why i said i need to get a medium fast action rod tongue.gif
current casting rod is a Fenwick HMX 6', 10-25lbs, 1/4 - 1 1/4oz, Medium, 2 pc
i wish i can try the rods before buying.. but i guess choosing the suitable rod comes with the experiences as in "for what target fish", "where to fish" and "what lures/lines to use"
and a wrong perception of mine, always expecting to get a momma fish so that's why i need a rod that can sustain the fight.. tongue.gif

QUOTE(rorytate @ Feb 7 2007, 09:23 AM)
Casting 7 grams with mag brake put to max shows that your casting follow-thru is wrong. 7 grams is heavy enough to be casted at nominal brake setting. We'll practise more about this ok? smile.gif
sure thing sifu...

QUOTE(rorytate @ Feb 7 2007, 09:23 AM)
On the drag, it was way softer earlier stage where the max drag is at 4lb only. After adding the carbon matrix drag, it reaches 6lb max drag which is very good already. To see the max drag, it have to be paired with the suitable rod, where the rod will take the load as well, not just the reel.
Furthurmore, drag and brake got nothing in relation. Drag is on cranking and brake is during casting. smile.gif
yeah.. this i know.. maybe cos i'm pulling the line harder that i should.. perhaps when i really caught a fish, and set to max drag, i'll know how good it is.. smile.gif

add me in MSN pls... tinkerj@hotmail.com
and btw, its tinkerFY; FY are my initials wink.gif

ohh...i added the L...hahaha my apologies...]

Your fenwick will be placed for good use at Air Ganda as the rating is pretty good and casting heavier lure will be an ease...

1oz is 28grams.. smile.gif

you still can sustain the fight with lighter rod rating too, depending on how you fish or fight smile.gif

Bro TAGreptile, if you want a set of gears just for talapia, RM100 is more than enuff.. smile.gif

1. Rod - kiddy rod - RM19 fully fiberglass, can bend u shape easily, soft tip
2. Reel - Ofmer - RM55 very small, yellow in color, size of Tica kicimiao
3. Line - Berkley vanish 6lb RM15?

In total less than Rm100. In fact good for all paypond fishing smile.gif Even Bro QiW, is using a super soft SureCatch rod(if i'm not mistaken RM20 or something) to catch Pacu as well. smile.gif

Bro Voon,
Plastic lure have to be manipulated so that it will look like a easy bait, fleeing baitfish, trespasser and alot other factor. Just master more skills about lure, but learn 1 thing at 1 time smile.gif BTW, you free tonight, pop by my place to take the rod cos tonight i'm free...Pls SMS me

Bro AAroniod,
A warm welcome to you to our small lurker forum thread about angling. Please do not hesitate to post any questions. smile.gif

What is your target?
Lure/bait?

Then only we can assist

Go to the end of residential area, that spot is spacious and good ground for you to practise casting and luring.

Bro TinkerFY, you didnt get converted by me la...just your personal interest only smile.gif

If i can make it, then i'll try my best to guide on luring and casting.
