Why don't flash kernel via CWM? Easier. Of course, you need to have the CWM version.

For me, the best ever is CheckROM for closest to stock. For modded one, Turkbey is very stable.

I am waiting too but trust me. They not going to come out that soon. They want their build to be perfect and thus, is definitely time consuming.

Got to agree with what kazuma said. Check if it is G or non G first. If not....something bad might happen

If you have not root anything, then just update via Kies.

If you want to try something like custom roms etc (ICS based), you can try the following the first page. Guides are there.

Samsung doing the release stage by stage. So have to be patience. If want fast, can try custom Roms or those released on XDA forum.
