TDK Life on Record is a huge well known worldwide data storage' recordable media and electronics company. In the 90s, almost every cassette and VHS Tapes was manufactured by them. In the 2000s, when the DVD had begun to be the most used media, TDK started to disappear. Fast forward to 2007, Imation, an American corporation from Oakdale, Minnesota, had purchased TDK's brand name, and made a new TDK brand: TDK Performance, which offers mostly portable audio products: Headphones, IEMs, "Digital Boom-boxes", etc. In late 2011, TDK Performance had announced their flagship IEM: The BA200, a dual balanced armature, which was developed using technology for on-stage live performances, to create high fidelity sound.

I test this today.

This TDK BA 200 can give a balance on low and high, it's dual BA anyway.

I get a good bass, which better than Feel Pro 900. Treble sounded just right which no high pitch.

Mid a little muddy but for someone like me who more on rock and fast music, I don't care much about singer's voice.

The size, it's really small for dual BA, 1st time I saw it, I never think it's was dual BA. Really comfort for long use. It's come with a set of Comply foam too.

Like A-Jays, this one come with flat cable too. If you like to hang your DAP on your neck, the cable is short and won't be messy. Cable extender is provided for someone who need to use with PC or normal amp.

I can recommended this one to anyone who want to buy dual BA.

About RM600...the Radius DDM...and the closest priced to the TDK BA200 is the JVC FTX-90 IINM. So yeah the TDK is actually the cheapest I hear of a dual-driver so far that isn't some shoddy Chinese imitation.

I usually see dual drivers in the region of RM550 to RM1200.

EDIT: Sorry, the SAE thing is actually a major typo that I forgot to remove. laugh.gif

that's not really true... the JVC HA-FXT90 can be had for 499 at SenQ, same price as the TDK BA200. both are 300+ if you don't buy locally.

between the two, the TDK is wider in soundstage and instrument separation. the JVC is better at low end bass though. both are good in vocals and midrange.

One of the things that separates the TDK and the JVC is that the JVC has no crossover. The JVC is a simpler IEM, employing two small dynamics that are constructed differently so one driver favours a different frequency range than the other. The drivers actually works at about the same phase, and the sound overlaps. The TDK uses traditional crossovers and BA drivers, making them technically more complex (and technically superior) and should also be more expensive. For the tech it offers, the TDK is cheap. One of the cheapest, if not the cheapest dual BA driver IEM that is actually good enough to recommend (according to many who tested it).

@cyloh: Apart from SenQ, Jaben also has them, at a higher price though.

Hey guys. It's been a while.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

TL;DR.

Summary: My FA Tandem broke so I got a TDK EB950 to stop gap until I get a replacement unit - but I'm pleasently surprised at the little TDK that could.

In short, the TDK EB950 is a great IEM if you're looking for something fun and musical (aka mid and bass centric, not so much details), and like getting swept away by the music.

Truth is, the FXT90 is better technically, the VB has more bass (especially sub-bass), the Eterna V1 is (slightly) more "musically rounded" (aka coherent, for a lack of a better word) and the Tandem is smoother all around (almost to the point of being boring).

But if you want something split in the middle between these four, for less than RM300 (with iPhone mic and controls to boot) then you might wanna take a look at the EB950.

Note the built-wise, it really feels plasticky, flimsy and not very confidence inspiring. The cable also feels cheap-ish, and the drivers flex like heck in my ears during insertion.

As an result, it's light and barely noticeable in my ears though.

Now using with my shitty source (my SGS2 - I lost my Fuze charging cable). And even then it sounds engaging to my ears, especially with my favourite Sony Hybrid tips. Now I have to find my Fuze charging wire and see if it's as good on a "okay" source.

Not bad TDK. Now lets see if it can last the distance - considering both my two previous Eternas and the Tandem broke after about 6 months of use on average.

Added on July 7, 2012, 9:03 pmFound out that my Fuze still had like 5% battery left, and tested the hell outta it with the EB950. Not bad, the bass is tamer and details better from the Fuze.

Also went and tested the Final Audio Adagio II and SE215 - and walked away glad I got the EB on impulse lol. The Adagio had mid suckout (it sounded much less forward) and sounded a bit hollow on my shitty source (the SGS2 - Fuze FINALLY died); and the SE215 is, for the lack of a better word, sounded "plain" (as in it does everything OK but is not quite as engaging). Built is hella better on both though, though for now the EB950 is still the quite the plastic fantastic - especially at the "slightly less than RM300" list price.

A shame it's not quite as popular out here lol, not even as a FOTM.

Oh, and I went back to the in-box Complys for the comfort.

Upgraded the source for my EB950 -> SGS3.

Oh wow... shocking.gif

Ordered some small Comply foams too, the medium ones are getting a tad uncomfortable for me.

I necro this thread to tell ya'll of my amazement of TDK BA200!

One word: WOW.

Last trip to SG, this IEM is one of the very few which could really opened my eyes and looked at what I am holding and its price. It was really GOOD for that price. The feeling to me is quite similar with GR07 MKII, and my friend thought it is sibling to Earsonic SM3V2. Well, to my ears, BA200 is definitely better than IE800 (burn in problem? LOL). Sound sig: Balanced.

KUDOS to TDK for the good product. Hope to have it soon!

There are more discussion between sifu from worldwide.
Sq not sure, but some write in the above thread say the single cable sound abit better, using extension cable cause lost signal.
But I prefer the old two cable design cause the design of TDK cable are fragile damage easily. If the extension cable broken, ie 1 side no sound, just use other extension cable.

I guess a few M'sian using this BA200

wkkm007 TDK BA200 is really a great IEM for price/SQ ratio. Cable wise, yeah, flat cable worn over ears is kinda uncomfortable I guess.

TOTL IEM? Err... U mean for TDK product range izit? Because to me, it is a value buy but there are definitely other IEMs which excels in certain qualities compared to BA200. BA200 does nothing majorly wrong in my testing.

For that price bracket, if I want more bass, maybe I'll go for FS M5, or if I want dynamic taste, I'll go for GR07, if I want tasty vocals, I'll go for Heaven IV. I definitely wanna try in the future on more tracks to see how it performs in depth.

I'm from Kuching. Nice to meet ya.
