TL;DR.
Summary: My FA Tandem broke so I got a TDK EB950 to stop gap until I get a replacement unit - but I'm pleasently surprised at the little TDK that could.
In short, the TDK EB950 is a great IEM if you're looking for something fun and musical (aka mid and bass centric, not so much details), and like getting swept away by the music.
Truth is, the FXT90 is better technically, the VB has more bass (especially sub-bass), the Eterna V1 is (slightly) more "musically rounded" (aka coherent, for a lack of a better word) and the Tandem is smoother all around (almost to the point of being boring).
But if you want something split in the middle between these four, for less than RM300 (with iPhone mic and controls to boot) then you might wanna take a look at the EB950.
Note the built-wise, it really feels plasticky, flimsy and not very confidence inspiring. The cable also feels cheap-ish, and the drivers flex like heck in my ears during insertion.
As an result, it's light and barely noticeable in my ears though.
Now using with my shitty source (my SGS2 - I lost my Fuze charging cable). And even then it sounds engaging to my ears, especially with my favourite Sony Hybrid tips. Now I have to find my Fuze charging wire and see if it's as good on a "okay" source.
Not bad TDK. Now lets see if it can last the distance - considering both my two previous Eternas and the Tandem broke after about 6 months of use on average.
Added on July 7, 2012, 9:03 pmFound out that my Fuze still had like 5% battery left, and tested the hell outta it with the EB950. Not bad, the bass is tamer and details better from the Fuze.
Also went and tested the Final Audio Adagio II and SE215 - and walked away glad I got the EB on impulse lol. The Adagio had mid suckout (it sounded much less forward) and sounded a bit hollow on my shitty source (the SGS2 - Fuze FINALLY died); and the SE215 is, for the lack of a better word, sounded "plain" (as in it does everything OK but is not quite as engaging). Built is hella better on both though, though for now the EB950 is still the quite the plastic fantastic - especially at the "slightly less than RM300" list price.
A shame it's not quite as popular out here lol, not even as a FOTM.
Oh, and I went back to the in-box Complys for the comfort.
